Today, Chancellor Rt Hon Rachel Reeves unveiled Labour’s 2024 Budget. With £2.5 billion to boost NHS operations and £3.4 billion earmarked for productivity improvements, this budget drives digital transformation and efficiency across the healthcare sector. But what does this mean for healthcare providers and CQC compliance? Well, providers may need to meet new standards in tech adoption, staffing sustainability, and operational efficiency. In an evolving healthcare landscape, staying proactive with these budget-driven changes can help providers not only meet compliance standards but also deliver higher-quality care to patients across the UK. The only focus is on the political ideology of the candidates. Anyone notice other things? Extract-Mandelson’s call for Labour chancellor of Oxford ‘stupid’, says departing Patten Chris Patten has described Peter Mandelson’s claim that it is time for a non-Tory chancellor of the University of Oxford as “a sort of stupid argument” and a “real mistake”, as Patten retires from the prestigious role. A host of candidates including Labour’s Lord Mandelson and the former Conservative cabinet ministers William Hague and Dominic Grieve have announced they are standing for election to succeed Lord Patten, a former Conservative party MP and chair. Mandelson, launching his campaign, had noted in an interview that just two of the nine chancellors in the last century had not been Tory, adding: “I don’t see why the Conservatives should have a monopoly on this position.” Patten, 80, the first Oxford chancellor to stand down since 1715 when James Butler, the second Duke of Ormonde, fled for France after being impeached for treason, said party politics should have no role to play in the election campaign. He said: “I mean, it is a sort of stupid argument. I mean, people are actually saying the chancellor is always Conservative. My predecessor was [the former Labour cabinet minister] Roy Jenkins. His predecessor was Harold Macmillan, who was, after all, the prime minister. And I think it is a real mistake to try to turn it into a left-right issue. “You are not a leftwing chancellor or a rightwing chancellor. If you are any good, you are a chancellor that is good for Oxford and understands Oxford and had done quite a lot for Oxford and will do even more. I think the leftwing, rightwing … I suppose it is an attempt to drum up support. It is not really where it is at.”.. https://lnkd.in/e-We23BX

Top Canadian career strategist empowering C-suite and senior executives to land six-figure roles faster. Trusted to navigate complex transitions. 16X Award-Winning Resume Writer & 11X Nationally Certified Strategist.
If you're anything like me, you know tomorrow is #budget day in #Canada. A few of the details Dan shares in his post about his "behind-the-scenes" look at what goes into Budget day, can be applied to your resume and I could not let the opportunity go by without pointing out some of the similarities of having your resume screened by employers. --- "Much to the writers’ dismay, the [reporters] usually flip right past the beautifully written and carefully crafted narrative in the introduction, and dive right into the tables at the back." --- Recruiters and hiring managers know what they want to see. And while you may have spent hours coming up with perfectly crafted words, your audience is looking for quantifiable data that proves you can do what you say. --- "Of course, the real story of the budget is never obvious on Budget Day. It is buried in the pages everyone flipped through to get to the tables in the annex. --- No one gets to "know" someone from a quick viewing or reading of their resume. At best you have an inkling of the person, but until you meet them in person (often via interview) you don't get their real story and you certainly aren't seeing the whole picture. --- "Budgets are more than just financial documents; they are narratives that define governments’ priorities and ideologies. Whether dubbed as the first ‘feminist’ budget or championing other causes, budgets reflect the values and aspirations of the country. Crafted with precision, every word is a piece of a puzzle, contributing to the overarching narrative of governance." --- Like Dan believes budgets are more than just financial documents - I believe resumes are more than the history of your career. They tell your story, demonstrate your values and interests and express to others your alignment and shared interests with the organizations where you most want to work. Finally, Dan writes "The budget...is the culmination of the public service’s [efforts...It] is inherently complicated, messy, and beautiful." --- So well written - and accurate about your career messaging as well. Your resume is the culmination of all your hard work at school, work, at home, in the community, as a human being having a human experience. Happy Budget Day, Canada
Happy B-Day! iPolitics approached me to provide a glimpse into what #Budget day is like from the inside. I had fun going down memory lane, and could almost smell the old Centre Block as I wrote this. Plenty more fun stories to share, like the time I had to be shoved into the PM's private bathroom to avoid the cameras... but alas, the word count wouldn't allow it #cdnpoli https://lnkd.in/e2zXT2Jy

📈Budget It was pleasing to finally hear FE spoken about when it comes to investment in yesterday's budget, albeit lacking in detail. I can't help feeling a sense of a missed opportunity to align investment with critical skills shortage areas that could boost productivity, especially in light of the ambitious target to build 1.5 million homes over the next 5 years. The budget included several positive announcements like planning reform and commitments to increase social and affordable housing. However, if we're serious about delivering on these commitments, we need to properly fund FE & Skills now-not in 2025—if we have any chance of meeting supply chain demands and reaching these targets. At Leeds College of Building, we're ready to rise to this challenge with the right investment. This October, we welcomed 580 visitors to our first open evening of the 24/25 academic year-over double what we've seen in previous years! This response demonstrates a strong pipeline of interest in our industry, yet without increased funding, fair pay for our dedicated teachers, and support for apprenticeships, we risk failing to meet the growing demand. This investment announcement is a positive step, but to truly drive productivity and equip our economy for the future, we need swift, actionable support for the FE & Skills sector. Let's make this investment matter, now. #FESkills #ProductivityBoost #Budget2024 Leeds College of Building #Apprenticeships #Construction

Very interesting summary from PLR Advisory and certainly worth a read by all educational colleagues and those involved with the sector.
How was it for you? 🤔 The 2024 Autumn Budget has us here at PLR Advisory feeling this was more of a trick than treat budget for #schools and #academies no matter how much more funding was pledged. As always, the devil is in the detail once you've had a chance to assess the impact of the announcements. Here's our take on #Budget2024 ⬇️ https://lnkd.in/ePQVDp29

🗣️ City of Charlotte Takes Public Comments on Proposed Fiscal Year 2025 Budget 💰 Our Executive Director, Rob Nanfelt, was there and spoke on behalf of REBIC, the only attendee representing business interests. We noticed this budget seems to have something in it for everyone which perhaps is part of the strategy for assuring its passage. Also of note, Affordable Housing is listed as a "Council Key Initiative" along with Mobility and other general priorities. The proposal seeks to double the bond amount but doesn't appear to answer the ever-important question of how effective those dollars have been thus far in achieving a positive outcome. We find that concerning. On the subject of attainable housing, we have found ourselves confused by the fact that on the one hand the Council seems unwilling to keep a working development option available under the Unified Development Ordinance (UDO), yet willing to spend millions more to correct a problem for which it is partially responsible. Our opinion is if there was anything the Council could do that would immediately increase the supply of housing, it would be to reduce the monumental amount of regulatory constraints it has implemented and unleash the free market to do what it does well - meet customer demand. 🔗 City of Charlotte Budget: https://lnkd.in/ebsFJXvn 📆 The remaining schedule is as follows: May 20 at 1:30 pm - Budget Adjustments May 30 at 1:30 pm - Budget Straw Votes June 10 at 6:00 pm - Budget Adoption #charlottenc #charlotte #uptownclt #mecklenburgcounty #cltrealestate #rebic #joinrebic #cltcc #ncpol
