On January 30th, I had the opportunity to attend the Carnegie Initiative Summit, which included the "Building Effective Networks and Navigating Relationships" workshop offered by Canadian Tire Corporation. Ashley Collins @Curran, @Bobby Sahni, Lindsay Pennal, Marsha-Gaye Knight BSc, PDip, MSc., @Brett Peterson, and the host Biju Pappachan delivered an outstanding session on building strategic relationships and navigating the complex landscape of networking. I want to thank them for providing us with such an amazing learning experience. The Carnegie Initiative aims to make hockey a more open, friendly, and inviting environment. The Summit was created to provide a safe forum for panelists and thought leaders to engage in meaningful and instructive debates about the difficulties, breakthroughs, and practical insights related to hockey culture. I am appreciative to the panel for sharing such a wealth of understandings. I'd like to highlight a few significant points from the Summit: Bobby Sahni's emphasis on multiculturalism throughout this panel discussion provided me with valuable insights. Living in a varied city like Toronto, it's critical to understand that the ways of connecting and forming networks differ between cultures. To make the most of our networking efforts, we must first understand how different cultures interact. As a Sport and Event Marketing student at George Brown, I intend to use this expertise to build social capital and effectively launch my career in the field. I was very impressed with how Biju Pappachan explained the need of devoting time to individuals in order to build stronger networks. Despite the abundance of technological technology, it is critical to avoid approaching connection creation solely mechanically. When connecting on social media, including a personal note can help to make the connection more meaningful and foster true relationships. Ms Lindsay Pennal beautifully demonstrated how taking a different approach may lead to greater relationships. Furthermore, Brett Peterson emphasized the significance of listening skills, based on his extensive experience as a general manager. Patiently listening is vital for understanding team members' cognitive processes. Thank you again for hosting such an informative event. There's nothing quite like learning from professionals in the area. I am excited to put these excellent teachings into practice in both my personal and professional life. Marsha-Gaye Knight BSc, PDip, MSc.

Networking internally is just as important as networking externally. It builds credibility, trust and accelerates your growth. I’ve discovered my colleague’s incredible superpowers, where I continually learn and grow, further sharpening my skills next level. Did my leaders tell me to do this? No. I went looking for them. And it all starts with building your brand internally and taking the reigns. Ask yourself this question? When you’re not in the room, what would your colleagues & leaders say about you? Do you make the effort to get to know colleagues in different lines of businesses? Do you attend in person events, round tables, town halls, which places you in close proximity to the change makers + innovators within your organization. Do you spark conversation and introduce yourself? And learn more about them? As you build an external network strategy, don’t forget to do the same internally… It needs and must ALWAYS be a dual effort. Nancy

I had the privilege of attending the Carnegie Initiative Summit on January 30th, where the "Building Effective Networks and Navigating Relationships" workshop, presented by Canadian Tire Corporation, took place. The panelists, comprising Ashley Curran, Bobby Sahni, Lindsay Pennal, Marsha-Gaye Knight BSc, PDip, MSc. Brett Peterson, along with the host Biju Pappachan, delivered an outstanding session on building strategic relationships and navigating the intricate landscape of networking. I extend my gratitude to them for providing us with such a remarkable learning experience. The Carnegie Initiative endeavors to transform the realm of hockey into a more inclusive, supportive, and inviting environment. The Summit was established to offer a secure platform for panelists and thought leaders to engage in meaningful and informative discussions about the challenges, advancements, and practical insights concerning hockey culture. I am deeply grateful for the wealth of experiences shared by the panel. I would like to mention some key points from the Summit: A significant insight I gained from this panel discussion was the emphasis on multiculturalism by Bobby Sahni. Residing in a diverse city like Toronto, it's crucial to recognize that the methods of connecting and establishing networks vary across cultures. To maximize the benefits of our networking endeavors, it's essential to have a mutual understanding of how different cultures engage. As a Sport and Event Marketing student at George Brown, I plan to leverage this knowledge to enhance my social capital and launch my career in the industry effectively. Also, I was impressed with the way in which Biju Pappachan elaborated the significance of dedicating time to individuals to cultivate stronger networks. Despite the prevalence of advanced technology, it's crucial to avoid approaching relationship-building purely mechanically. Adding a personal message when connecting on social media can enhance the meaningfulness of the connection and nurture authentic relationships. Ms Lindsay Pennal beautifully illustrated how embracing a different approach can lead to the development of stronger relationships. Furthermore, Brett Peterson emphasized the importance of listening skills by drawing from his valuable experience as a general manager. Patiently listening is essential for comprehending the thought processes of team members. Thank you once again for organizing such an enlightening event. There's truly nothing like learning from experts in the field. I eagerly anticipate putting these valuable lessons into practice in both my personal and professional life.

Founder & Director of Perennial HR - HR Executive Search in Asia I post on Career Advice, Hiring Advice & Leadership
Why spend hours at networking events with little return? HBR think there is a better way to connect. In my experience the large scale networking events often leading to less meaningful connections. Instead host your own smaller events where you get input from attendees on what subject would get the greatest engagement. Then reconnect with your network and ask them if they would like to bring along someone interested to meet. These approaches not only deepen existing relationships but also open doors to new opportunities in a more personalised and impactful way. What are your thoughts on this approach? Does this work for you? Let me know below ⬇️ Follow Martin Hill for more Career, Hiring & Leadership Advice https://lnkd.in/gzcrvMXb

Welcome Doers ⚡️ I’ll help you Dominate your Social presence and Monetise in just 90 days | 20M+ impressions & 40k+ community on IG | Freelance Content creator
Creating content for years? Or join few big Networking events? What would you prefer and why? I am recently joining FGS Summit with around 5000 people gathered here, and all are having their interest in growing their business! Do you think, when you can connect with such people directly face and face and - Understand them better, - Network strongly, - Know their pain points better And then take your time to implement that data you’ve got! Due to my introvert nature, I was never able to attent such events before and I realise what I was just missing.. And I was just about to miss posting today. But a challenge to myself for being consistent pushed me to do so! . . So how many of you already know this and joining such events? P.S. What are your learnings that you think will be worthy to share!! . . #linkedingrowth #personalbranding
