🐰 New site, who dis?

🐰 New site, who dis?

Heyo, Ben here 👋, checking in with some BIG updates.

First off, you might have noticed… we revamped our website!

The biggest change you'll notice is that we've broken down Directus into a "backend toolkit" comprised of 8 unique tools.

  • Connect: Generate instant REST and GraphQL APIs
  • Explore:   Browse and filter data in custom layouts
  • Editor: Create and manage data in custom forms
  • Files: Store and transform all your digital assets
  • Auth: Protect your data with granular access control
  • Insights: Visualize data in custom dashboards
  • Automate: Automation builder for data
  • Realtime: Keep data in sync with WebSockets

Directus is still a single cohesive platform, however, it's most efficient to describe and compare all of our capabilities within this set of specific tools. We'd love your feedback on this new approach!

In other exciting news: We're making huge strides in our database abstraction.

This update will enable all new datastore connectors (think: NoSQL, APIs, Vector, etc.), giving you even more flexibility and power.

To wrap up, the future of Directus looks brighter than ever, and that's thanks to all of you. Your feedback, your needs, and your creativity drive us forward — so, stay engaged, stay curious, and stay tuned for what's next… yeehaw! 🤠

⚙️ Content versioning beta, flows updates and more

Heya! 👋 Let's dive into the biggest updates from v10.6 and our v10.7 beta!

 10.6 – Flows security updates

Safety first, right? 🛡️ We've made some critical security updates in this release. We've swapped out the now suddenly deprecated vm2 with isolated-vm to bolster your project's security when using the Run Script operation.

Heads-up though! the Run Script no longer supports node modules.

In v10.6, we've also improved improved the redacting logic for preventing environment variables from showing up in logs for Flows.

So, if you're logging any environment variables, rest assured that these sensitive values won't be logged. It's all about keeping your data safe and sound!

10.7-beta – Content versioning pre-release (Release Notes)

Since the success of our SDK beta, we've decided to early release features to get your feedback! We continue our beta releases with the introduction of Content Versioning in Directus.

This feature, which has been a hot topic in our community, is all about giving you more control and flexibility.

With Content Versioning, you can now create different versions of your content, making it easier to manage changes, test new ideas, and ensure that your content is always top-notch.

We're super excited about this beta release and can't wait to hear your feedback. So, give it a whirl, test out the new features, and let us know what you think in the #content-versioning channel in our Discord!

⚡️ Partner highlight: UK-based Pixie Labs

Howdy! I'm super excited to show you this cool Directus project built by Pixie Labs , a London-based digital product studio with deep software development expertise in @Ruby on Rails, React and React Native.

Pixie Labs has used Directus in several of its client projects. Most recently, they used it to power the beautiful BLACKWING7 website for their client, TRIBE7 .

Implementing Directus as a headless CMS allowed TRIBE7 to showcase their fantastic work (their lenses were used to film Oscar award-winning All Quiet on the Western Front! 🤯) in a beautiful, bespoke way whilst still allowing their team to make changes and additions to the content without requiring dev support.

Be sure to check out Pixie Labs' site for more cool projects or to contact their team about any projects you may have on the horizon!

There are only 2 hard problems in computer science:

  • Naming variables
  • Cache invalidation
  • Off-by-one errors

Have a great September!
