If you are 15-18, then you may be interested in our Virtual Work Experience Programme.
It is run in partnership with Springpod, and includes 10 sessions that you can work through in your own time, covering the steps taken to publish commercially successful books and the business decisions needed at the different stages. The programme is a blend of interactive tasks, information and live webinars that share how different functions collaborate and gain an understanding of the wide number of jobs there are in the industry and what’s needed if you want to explore publishing as a career.
The programme builds on the success of the one run last year which helped students build confidence in the workplace and demystify the publishing industry. In 2022, before the programme, 37.1% of those who signed up had expressed that they were ‘slightly nervous’ about finding a job in the future. After the programme, 83.7% of those who responded said that they were either ‘somewhat’ or ‘very confident’ about finding a job in the future. Similarly, before the programme, 41.2% of the students said they were ‘slightly nervous’ about speaking to professionals within the publishing industry, which evolved to 86.4% of students feeling either ‘somewhat confident’ or ‘very confident’ about speaking to those within the industry.
Our Virtual Work Experience is now open for 2024 and is available on-demand until 20th December 2024. Learn more here.
