Maddy Mussen London Evening Standard This has a script and production values so corporate that it feels eerily similar to the in-room promotional videos that play on hotel room TV screens on an endless loop when you first check in. Rated: 1/5 Oct 29, 2024 Full Review Anita Singh Daily Telegraph (UK) It’s shallow and silly to the point that something about the series feels a little off. Rated: 2/5 Oct 28, 2024 Full Review Lucy Mangan Guardian This bonkers show about on-board doctors who have to fix penile fractures and outbreaks of venereal disease is hilariously bad – and yet somehow, Joshua Jackson pulls it off. Rated: 5/5 Oct 24, 2024 Full Review Barbara Ellen Observer (UK) Doctor Odyssey has its amusements but, ultimately, all the colour and commotion can’t disguise plots staler than a week-old captain’s table bread basket. Rated: 2/5 Nov 3, 2024 Full Review Joly Herman Common Sense Media Sleek, well-produced, and addictive, this cruise ship soap has notes of flirty romance but doesn't forget it's a medical drama. Oct 9, 2024 Full Review Joel Keller Decider Doctor Odyssey is a pretty dumb, inessential watch, but an entertaining one, mostly due to the performances of the main cast and guest stars. Larry K Every so often, you have a front row seat when a TV show jumps the shark. That happened for me the other night with ABC's Dr. Odyssey. TV shows are pushing the boundaries all the time, but I can't believe their last episode had censor approval, and it wouldn't surprise me if the FCC weighs in, since it was aired in prime time on the public airwaves. I don't consider myself a prude, but this went beyond the pale...their depiction of a 3-way was literally soft core porn, and I've unscheduled it from my DVR. Viewership will likely plummet going forward. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 11/11/24 Full Review Joe K Terrible writing, sick main characters with low morals, especially for portraying medical staff. Junk tv at its finest, do not let anyone under age watch this depressing and depraved show ever. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 11/10/24 Full Review L M Although I was excited to see Joshua Jackson and think he is doing a great job in this show, I'm going to stop watching after seeing Season 1, Episode 6. The sexual content in this episode, especially, is extremely inappropriate and unnecessary. It's really too bad, because this could have been a great show if it wasn't so sexualized. It's just sloppy writing and a lack of creativity that leads writers to constantly resort to aberrant sexual themes. One more show down the toilet. I would not recommend this show to anyone. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 11/10/24 Full Review Steven H At first I thought this may be an enjoyable series. It was like an updated Love Boat with intense drama. The last episode “I Always Cry at Weddings” was too dark of a drama including the sex subjects being too overboard. No pun intended. This has sunk my viewing it. Pun definitely intended. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 11/09/24 Full Review Irina B Dr. Odyssey is trying to be an ABC show and a Hulu show at the same time. I guess it gets a C+ for effort. It's entertaining, but only if you take nothing about the show seriously. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 11/08/24 Full Review Elizabeth J P This is clearly designed to be a sleek update to the Love Boat, but with a focus on the medical team. Details aren't important - only that somehow Joshua Jackson and Don Johnson have signed up for this and seem to be enjoying their foray into the tropics. The initial episodes are a little weak, but the writers are beginning to add more backstory about how the ship works which is always entertaining. Each cruise has a theme (e.g. plastic surgery recovery, Halloween, singles cruise, etc) and those themes have been driving the best storylines. But Halloween is where it really gets going. Imagine Don Johnson doing his best Captain Picard, trying to ignore all the fun around him while Joshua Jackson tries out his best Captain Jack and Poseidon costumes - combined with a medical storyline of patients sleep walking like zombies. It's as goofy as it sounds and is the break from reality I need right now. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 11/07/24 Full Review Read all reviews
