Sencha Animator, the CSS3 alternative to Flash, helps interactive designers create rich animations for deployment on web browsers and devices, without relying on third-party media plug-ins.
Palo Alto, Calif. October 17, 2010 — Sencha, the leader in enterprise JavaScript frameworks, has released a preview of Sencha Animator, the industry’s first purpose-built tool for creating rich and engaging CSS3-based animations that can be viewed on the latest WebKit browsers and mobile devices. Designed for interactive designers and advertising creatives that want to create cross-platform animations for playback on smart-phones and touch-based mobile devices, Sencha Animator brings static objects and text to life quickly and easily and ensures high-fidelity playback on the Apple iPad, Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, BlackBerry Torch, and Google Android-based devices.
Sencha Animator will be featured at the upcoming Sencha Conference, where a special session is planned to demonstrate its capabilities. Read more about Sencha Animator on the Sencha blog, or view the Sencha Animator demos. A fully functional preview version of Sencha Animator is available for immediate download at sencha.com.
Sencha Animator addresses a frustrating problem for today?s designers: Apple iOS and numerous other mobile devices do not support popular animation platforms like Adobe Flash and Microsoft Silverlight. This means that many rich-media animations and ads are blocked from playback on some of the most popular mobile platforms. Sencha Animator bypasses the need for rich-media plug-ins by making it easy to create CSS3 animations that will play anywhere. CSS3 is an HTML5 family technology that runs on modern browsers. CSS3 is also hardware-accelerated on Apple iOS, rendering smooth, detailed animations that deliver a more immersive experience.
Note to editors: Sencha recently demonstrated the potential offered by CSS3-based ads, which are essentially indiscernible from rich-media equivalents.
Features available in this initial preview release, which is being made available early to encourage trial:
- Create complex animations to power rich-media ads for smartphones
- Full CSS3 support, including animations, 2D and 3D transformations, backgrounds, borders, font effects, and more
- Interactive timeline and intuitive object property controls
- Manage sequencing, grouping, easing, and other effects with a familiar timeline manager
- Export animations to readable HTML
- Powerful, intuitive, drag-and-drop development environment
- Packaged as an easy-to-use desktop application
“Ad creators have been begging for tools to create rich, interactive ads for mobile devices. Since most mobile operating systems don’t support Adobe Flash, this has been nearly impossible until now,” said Michael Mullany, VP of products and marketing at Sencha. “Sencha Animator changes the game by utilizing CSS3 Animations with an easy-to-use desktop application to bring content to life. We think it’s going to be a big hit with anyone who wants to create animations and interactive ads that use the latest HTML5 technologies.”
