Alena Lee
MeteorologistAlena Lee joined the WBAL-TV 11 Weather team as a meteorologist in May 2024.
Born and raised in fabulous Las Vegas, weather was not all that exciting. Outside of extreme heat, a few rare snow events, and frequent dust devil sightings, it was storytelling that was Alena's first passion. She didn't catch the "weather bug" until her final semester at Arizona State University, where she was given the opportunity to try her hand at forecasting the weather for Cronkite News, an Emmy-award-winning, student-run nightly newscast.
With her self-taught knowledge and sudden passion for weather, it was perfect for her first on-air job at WPDE-TV in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, where she covered several tropical storms, historic flooding, and numerous severe thunderstorm outbreaks.
After two years in the Southeast, Alena was ready to head back west to be closer to home. In 2016, Alena landed at KFSN-TV in Fresno, California, as the morning and midday weather anchor. Her most memorable event was covering the Great American Eclipse on Aug. 21, 2017, when she and a photographer traveled to Lincoln City, Oregon, to stand in the path of totality. While working full-time, Alena studied online at Mississippi State University, earning a Bachelor of Science in geoscience with a focus on broadcast meteorology.
By the summer of 2018, Alena's career took her to the country's heartland. She spent five years at KCTV in Kansas City, where she experienced nearly every weather scenario you can imagine, from tornadoes to blizzards. The most notable event Alena covered was the mile-wide, EF-4 tornado that struck Linwood, Kansas, on May 28, 2019. She was even tasked with safely positioning reporter-photographer crews in the field to capture the monster storm.
When Alena is not passionately focused on the forecast, you can catch her trying new restaurants, watching as many horror films as possible, birdwatching, offshore fishing, bowling and being crafty. You'd be surprised at how many unique things that interest her.
Alena is thrilled to be back on the East Coast and closer to the ocean. If you have any great photos or video of the weather, please send them her way!
