伊尔菲特所处区域历史上通行阿尔萨斯语，“Illefurt”对应的阿尔萨斯语拼写为“ìllfert”，其对应的读音为“['įlfərt]”[4]。1871至1918年间，伊尔菲特被德意志帝国统治，当地官方使用德语“Illfurt”作为官方名称[5]。
