Star Wars Outlaws Open World to Ditch Ubisoft’s 'Towers.' Exploration Is Expected to Be More Natural
We can breathe a sigh of relief. Star Wars: Outlaws will lack the traditional element, used many times by Ubisoft in their previous games.
Many years ago, this mechanic could be considered interesting when Ubisoft introduced towers or other viewpoints into their games, which allowed players to discover the next area on the map. However, the situation changed when the French started to push this element into almost every open-world game. Nevertheless, players tired of this type of solution can breathe a sigh of relief, as the upcoming Star Wars: Outlaws won't have that.
Information about the lack of towers in the upcoming title was provided by Brian Shea - a Game Informer journalist who not only had the opportunity to talk to the devs but also played the Outlaws demo.
Regarding Star Wars Outlaws, I did directly ask the creative director, [Julian Gerighty], if there are towers you climb in the open world to unlock the map. He said there are not -- we read in the journalist's post on X.
Shea added that we will discover the map in Outlaws by exploring unknown regions. It may not be a revolution, but a significant number of players will definitely welcome this decision.
It's worth reminding that the typical "Ubisoft towers" have been the subject of a joke by the developers themselves. One of the missions in Far Cry 5 involved climbing a radio transmitter in order to activate it. During the mission, the character who assigned it to us reassures us over the radio, saying that we won't have to repeat this action with all the towers scattered on the map. Below you can watch the mentioned fragment.
Star Wars: Outlaws is coming to PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. The game will be released on August 30 this year. People who purchase the Deluxe or Ultimate version will start playing in a galaxy far, far away on August 27.
