Street Fighter 6 Chases Mortal Kombat 1 Sales Ahead of Tekken 8's Release
Street Fighter 6 took longer than Mortal Kombat 1, but Capcom's brawler finally managed to sell 3 million copies before the release of its next rival.
Street Fighter 6 sales have exceeded 3 million copies. This many copies of the game have been sold, counting from the release on June 2, 2023, to January 3, 2024. Capcom boasted these results in a statement on its official website and on social media.
To mark this achievement, all Street Fighter 6 players will receive three special digital items. To collect them, you need to go to the tab News from within the game. The creators also assured â?? essentially unnecessarily â?? that the title will continue to be developed through new content.
This is another success of the latest Street Fighter, which gained recognition from reviewers and players alike. The game was also recognized as the best fighting game of 2023 at this year's The Game Awards, beating, among others, Mortal Kombat 1 (although it should be noted that the new MK reached 3 million copies sold much quicker).
It is also worth mentioning that in October, the publisher reported selling almost 2.5 million copies of SF 6 in the second half of fiscal 2024 (i.e. by the end of September). So in 3 months, the game gained an additional half a million buyers.
The popularity of part six certainly pleases the publisher, although the following months may be less favorable. Tekken 8 will hit the market next week, and there are many indications that Bandai Namco's work will be a strong competitor to the latest "Street Fighter."
Nevertheless, the fighting game fans are unlikely to complain about this abundance. Especially since the long-awaited return of the iconic Dragon Ball-licensed fighting game series is on the horizon.
