The Desperation of Observation Diary
A Quest of Life or Death (Japanese: 命がけの観察日記 The Desperation of Observation Diary) is the 15th chapter of the Magical Pokémon Journey manga.
Plot
For two days, Pikachu maintains a schedule of doing only the following: sleeping, eating, and playing with friends. The next day, when Pikachu is once again playing in a flower field with Clefairy, Almond jumps out of a nearby bush to yell at it for never doing anything interesting. He reveals that he has been keeping a field observation journal focused on Pikachu, but it has been nothing but boring for him. Suddenly, Almond takes notice of Jigglypuff floating away in the distance. After startling Pikachu and Clefairy by laughing nefariously, he rallies them and Squirtle into observing Jigglypuff.
After boredly watching Jigglypuff bounce around in flowers, they follow it up a mountain. It pokes a Graveler, provoking it into charging toward it. Jigglypuff floats away, but Almond and the others are left in its path, only managing to narrowly escape.
When the group spots Jigglypuff flying away into the sky, Almond takes out a flying machine he had received from Grandpa. The machine takes the group closer to Jigglypuff, letting Almond spot a gift in its grasp. Jigglypuff then bounces on the neck of a Fearow sleeping nearby, which then attacks Almond and the others. Almond calls on Pikachu to use Thunder Shock, but the attack destroys the flying machine, sending them falling into some treetops below.
From the treetops, Almond sees Jigglypuff give the gift it was holding to a baby Kangaskhan before flying off once more. When Almond sees the gift is a cake that Jigglypuff had baked, he scrambles over to knock it away. The baby Kangaskhan cries and alerts its mother, who proceeds to chase down Almond as he frantically tries to explain himself. The mother Kangaskhan swipes at Almond, launching him and the Pokémon off a cliff.
Almond begins to accept his death as he plummets toward the sharp rocks below. He is stunned to land on Jigglypuff, who had inflated itself just at the right time. However, it soon shrinks back into its regular size to chase a butterfly, causing everyone to fall to the ground.
Later, Almond denies ever being excited about his field observation journal, refusing to work on it ever again.

- After becoming invested in keeping a Pokémon observation journal, Almond follows Jigglypuff for the day.
