The current article neglects *how* an Almen strip is used.
The compressive stress imparted on one side of the strip by the peening process induces a curvature in the strip. The amount of curvature is related to the intensity of the peening. The various types of strips are needed in order to span the large range of intensity levels for various peening media and other process parameters.
"Supported on 4 balls"? So far as I know this is only in the measuring jig- not in the processing fixture for the strip. But hey, I haven't seen everything yet!
