Career Section
[edit]It says here:
Wright had been offered a position at a Canadian university, which would have paid him an annual salary of 500 pounds, a very generous salary at the time, but he opted to stay in Oxford and finish the Dictionary without any financial backing from a sponsor.
Yet I came here from Arthur_Balfour where it says:
Personality
Balfour was interested in the study of dialects and donated money to Joseph Wright's work on The English Dialect Dictionary. Wright wrote in the preface to the first volume that the project would have been "in vain" had he not received the donation from Balfour.
Only one of these can be true. And I have no way of knowing. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Claverhouse (talk • contribs) 12:07, 25 February 2021 (UTC)
