Kudos to the author
[edit]Whoever wrote this deserves much credit. The section describing the plots under "Television" is both hilarious and accurate! I watched this show a lot when I was in single digits. I would add (and I might later) that the Songbird ran out of gas frequently and Sky was forced to glide to a landing more often than is probably normal for a pilot. Firstly, I must agree that this article was exquisitely written. Something, however, confuses me. My recollection is that there were two planes. Sky had a twin named the Flying Crown (same as the ranch). And Penny had a single engine and THAT was named the Songbird. I do not make that change to the main article because it was so long ago that I watched the series, and my memory very possibly fails me. I wish others could consider this and tell me whether I am right or wrong on this. Allan Marain 15:40, 14 September 2013 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Marainlaw (talk • contribs)
Awkward
[edit]This whole thing needs fixing. Why the military time? Just cite the email and spare us this construction. "On May 20, 2008 at 2207 hours, Kirby Grant, III, confirmed that his father was a pilot and he flew with him many times. This was confirmed by e-mail to Officer. Glenn E. Kresge, United States Department of Defense Police,(and by Kent Volgamore and by Guy Maher, article below).[citation needed]" —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.37.249.47 (talk) 16:33, 24 July 2009 (UTC)
Is Show in Public Domain?
[edit]Looks like Sky King is in the public domain, and almost all the episodes are streamed on-line. But the article should indicate whether or not the show is p.d. or not. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Modelr (talk • contribs) 21:26, 13 February 2010 (UTC)
Apparently, only four episodes are public domain and they're available on the "Sky King: 4-Episode Collection" DVD (check Amazon). There are shows available to stream on-line for free, but that doesn't make them PD. It might mean the copyright holder hasn't been able to get them taken down yet or is receiving ad revenue.
I had heard that Sky King was now allowed in syndication for many years because the rights-holder kept the show locked up out of spite for someone who worked on it. It only showed up on TV again after that person died. Anybody else have any details? That would be something important to add to the broadcast history. ClassicCF (talk) 20:50, 7 July 2021 (UTC)
Contradiction
[edit]The article describes Penny and Clipper as relatively inexperienced pilots who require guidance from their uncle. It then goes on to say that Penny has a multi-engine license and is "an accomplished air racer." It may be slightly nitpicky, but this seems like something of a contradiction. Certainly she might less experienced relative to King given that he's older and has presumably been flying longer, but that's not the same as saying "inexperienced." Interview of Bill Fergusson
[edit]"Interview of Bill Fergusson" was cited as the source for some of the text in this article, but the citation does not have a reference to where the interview was published. Please include information about this interview so that it can be verified. Folklore1 (talk) 23:24, 26 July 2014 (UTC)
style
[edit]Wow. Three times "although" within four lines, in the opening paragraphs alone. That must be a new record. Didn't read any further, but turned away in disgust. --BjKa (talk) 13:03, 4 September 2014 (UTC)

the flying constable
[edit]I removed the reference from the article because not only did it say it was unverified the source given said nothing about the matter. In a Google Search Everything I find is a copy of this article. He was a real character but there's nothing linking him to the show. I'm sorry if that makes me a buzz kill but the guidelines on sourcing material on Wikipedia are very clear.Jackhammer111 (talk) 04:11, 3 December 2022 (UTC)
Opening Credit
[edit]I grew up watching this show, one of my favorites. I remember the opening being slightly different "out of the blue of the western sky comes Sky King". 47.184.212.69 (talk) 19:50, 13 August 2023 (UTC)
