Mystery
I don't know what the mystery is, but I hope it's a nice surprise...
1) I can't give you a list of dinosaur articles which need clean-up, aside from Libycosaurus (the only dinosaur article I'm aware of that has a clean-up template), but here's a bunch of articles which are in need of attention. Mostly they are in need of attention because they are too short, and need serious expansions to make them more comprehensive. Some probably can't be expanded a lot, but all could be in danger of deletion if a deletionist got his or her hands on them:
Xiaosaurus Velocisaurus Abelisaur Ingenia Wuerhosaurus Walgettosuchus Panoplosaurus Pterospondylus Chilantaisaurus Heilongjiangosaurus Kulceratops Phaedrolosaurus Atlascopcosaurus Fabrosaurus 2) That could take a while. I usually just make them as I think of them. parietosquasomal frill, perhaps?
3) See List of dinosaur-bearing rock formations.
4) I left a brief list at the WP:Dinosaurs talk page. There are hundreds of other good ones, though. Firsfron of Ronchester 04:19, 29 March 2007 (UTC)
- Sorry. I might be more help if I knew what I was compiling these lists for. Still, all the articles above are at least formatted correctly; there are a few which I feel are written in language which is too technical. Perhaps a list of those might be better? Firsfron of Ronchester 04:30, 29 March 2007 (UTC)
- Oh, just ten articles. Well, clip the bottom ten off that list, and use them, perhaps? There are quite a few overly technical articles, in my opinion, but it will take a while to go thru them. Libycosaurus definitely needs work. I'm off for now. Best, Firsfron of Ronchester 04:43, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

Dino Portal
Hey, thanks for this new addition to the dino project. Liked it very much. May I suggest the addition of two new sections: a "Did you know" section (there are already a few that went onto the Main Page and ready to be recycled) and a "News" section (just to keep people updated on new discoveries and events). Cheers. ArthurWeasley 17:15, 29 March 2007 (UTC)
- Go Spawn! If you get tired of doing those manually, let me know. I can WP:AWB them in a couple of hours. Firsfron of Ronchester 09:22, 30 March 2007 (UTC)
well done!
Well done! Archie's a FA now! Sabine's Sunbird talk 06:22, 30 March 2007 (UTC)
'tsalright...
I'm planning on getting through "a" tonight - but seriously, I'm beginning to question reality as you do when a mind numbing repettitive task arrises on here... Ahh well... at least I got Archie featured, of which hardly anyone has congratulated me for... *hint hint* ;) See you around... Thanks for the offer though, but this many edits towards my name is an oppurtunity I can't pass up... :) Thanks, Spawn Man 09:25, 30 March 2007 (UTC)
- Ugh. If it's too much, let me know, and I'll AWB them. No sense doing mindnumbingly boring work unless you really want to. Still, you're right; it does boost the edit count... ;) It's great to see you so active. As far as Archaeopteryx is concerned, everyone, including you, deserves a big pat on the back. Well done, Spawn Man. And the portal looks terrific. I was considering leaving a nice barnstar here on your talk page, but would it really matter? You've collected so many. Firsfron of Ronchester 09:35, 30 March 2007 (UTC)
- Deal! :) You won't have to do Styracosaurus, though, as I was already in the process of expanding that article when you began adding the templates. So you can cross that one off your list. Firsfron of Ronchester 09:44, 30 March 2007 (UTC)
- Alright, that odious chore is finished. I started at B, and J.Spencer started at Z, and we met somewhere in the middle. Now, the template itself is not quite in the right place: I used AWB's "append" function to add it to the very end of the article, because it took much less time that way. But it shows up just fine on the page, and the next time AWB is run on these pages, it will automatically convert it to the correct area. But you won't be able to tell the difference just looking at the article. So, no worries. Firsfron of Ronchester 02:00, 31 March 2007 (UTC)

Thanks
Thanks for the kind words about the new portal. I'm glad you liked it... :) I did consider creating both the sections you mentioned, but didn't for a couple of reasons - For the "In the news section", you have to have a link to Wikinews, which unfortunately doesn't have a private section for dinosaurs, only science. Dinosaurs aren't in the science section that often anyway, so that would mean we would have to create our own news for the portal - The way I created it was that it needed almost no maintainence whatsoever - the edition of this section would only increase that. Now for the DYK section - We've created all the dinosaur articles on the List of Dinos, & most other subjects have been created also, so I doubt there would be much action in that area. The only option there would be to have a selection of DYKs created for each article, & then have a sort of low maintainence system running much like the selected picture & article sections... Thanks again, your comments are appreciated & I'll see if we can add that DYK section in the future as that would be a great addition... :) Spawn Man 06:41, 30 March 2007 (UTC)
- I was merely trying to find ways to boost your edit counts ;) ! For the "News" section, I was thinking more along the line of something maintained by the WP:Dinosaurs team, such as announcing new discoveries. They were quite a lot to report lately from Albertaceratops on January to the proof of the burrowing habits of Oryctodromeus in March. I guess Dinoguy and JSpencer who are on top of these things could contribute. Oh, BTW, congrats for Archie FA status!! What's up next? Cheers. ArthurWeasley 16:55, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

Re: Portal update:
Just copy the {{Random portal component}} block, changing the links from "Selected picture" to "DYK" or whatever; then, create the subpages as you would for the other rotating sections. Kirill Lokshin 06:08, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
- You probably just put the call into the wrong div block. I've put up a shell on the portal page; you just need to create the subpages now. Kirill Lokshin 17:02, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
Not the first time:
I'm informing you of my intentions ([1]). This is not the first time this has happened to me at a Dino FAC, probably because you all think I'm going to let a 90% article go through. I know how to write FAs & how to vote on them. For some reason you al think that my oppsoe is inactionable. Have you even read Wikipedia:The perfect article? "...is nearly self-contained; it includes essential information and terminology, and is comprehensible by itself, without requiring significant reading of other articles..." You have to admit, the article contains way too many links to other articles, which is completely different to what this page says. "is comprehensible by itself, without requiring significant reading of other articles" is what I'm opposing for. And I'm rueful that people I thought were my friends are attacking me & saying I'm wrong simply because they don't know a simple guideline of FAC. Gees.. Spawn Man 03:06, 4 April 2007 (UTC)
- Hi Spawn Man,
- Who is attacking you? I'm definitely not. :) We are friends, and I hope we always will be. You should feel free to voice your opinions on an article. I did not say your comments weren't actionable, and would love to see you improve the article. Would welcome it, really. I did try to address the problems you mentioned, but since you are not yet happy with the state of the article, I hope you will take a hack at it. It can't hurt, right? Best wishes and happy editing, Firsfron of Ronchester 03:26, 4 April 2007 (UTC)
Archie timeline
It looks like Y tambe is satisfied with the timeline. Where do you think it should go? Right after the specimen list, perhaps, or maybe at the end of the History and Discovery section? J. Spencer 04:03, 4 April 2007 (UTC)
- The caption looks suitable to me. The only thing I was wondering about was the placement of the period versus (Click to enlarge), but I tried it in preview and it didn't look right with the period on the other side of the parenthetical note. J. Spencer 05:09, 4 April 2007 (UTC)

On RfA standards
I just want to follow up on a disagreement we had at Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Tohru Honda13, to clarify that I wasn't intending to attack you, and to ensure that there are no hard feelings.
- I responded to your oppose vote, which stated that you expect candidates to have "2K mainspace edits and 1K projectspace edits", using the shrubbery template, here.
- You responded here, and the feeling I got was that you were offended by my comments.
I just want to clarify that in using the shrubbery template, I wasn't meaning to attack you, nor did I intend you to take it personally, and I apologise for the way it came over. Your oppose vote was perfectly civil, and I respect that. I just don't really understand the necessity for numerical editcount standards. I really don't understand why so many users feel that someone has to have above a certain editcount to demonstrate an understanding of policy and process. Isn't it better, for instance, to have 200 high-quality projectspace edits, rather than 2,000 projectspace edits consisting of "Delete per nom" on every XfD? I'm not saying your standards are arbitrary necessarily, I'm just questioning the link between editcount and competence/experience. Besides, adminship is no big deal; IMHO, the main question we should be looking at is "will this editor actively damage Wikipedia through using the admin tools badly?", and if the answer is "Probably not", then they should get adminship. Overall, I guess I'm just trying to make sure you weren't offended by my comments. I don't want to offend anyone. Walton Vivat Regina! 15:17, 9 April 2007 (UTC)
- OK fair enough, so (as a theoretical exercise) how would you judge me if I were at RfA now? I have about 4200 edits total, of which nearly 1200 are projectspace, and 1300 mainspace (which falls a little below your criteria). Generally I'm better at administrative and cleanup tasks than serious article-writing, but I have contributed significantly to one GA (Politics) and a bunch of other articles. I'm also a very regular participant in all kinds of XfD (not just AfD) and have a very deep knowledge of the deletion policy; most of my 161 Wikipedia talkspace edits have been policy discussion. It's all an academic exercise, as I don't feel I'm quite ready for RfA yet. But I'd be interested to know how you'd judge me. Walton Vivat Regina! 12:00, 11 April 2007 (UTC)
- OK. To be fair, I did ask the question, so I can't complain about your response. So another scenario: think ahead a couple of months. Say I have 5000-5500 edits total, 6-7 months of active editing (according to your 50-a-month criterion), and over 2K in mainspace. That deals with most of your complaints, and as for the Wikiproject edits, I am in fact a participant in Wikiproject Politics and Wikiproject British Royalty, not to mention WP:AMA and WP:ASSIST (though I'm not sure if they count as Wikiprojects). The one point that worries me is that you mention uploads as important. I've never thought about doing any uploading; I'm not a photographer or anything, and I've never found any images or media that would be helpful to upload to Wikipedia. And to be honest, it would hardly be that helpful to the encyclopedia if I uploaded some random files just to look better at RfA, would it? Anyway, it's possible to gain just as much awareness of the fair use policy etc. through participating in IfDs and tagging orphaned images (not that I do much of that, but I can start). So would the no-uploads thing be an RfA-killer even if I meet all your other criteria? Walton Vivat Regina! 17:23, 12 April 2007 (UTC)
- Fair enough. Although your standards are somewhat higher than most people's, you make a good point that one oppose vote can quickly lead to a pile-on. So I won't take the risk; I'll try and sort out some uploads within the next couple of days. As for "keeping out of trouble", I've never really been in trouble (no blocks, no edit wars, etc.) so I don't see that as a major threat to my candidacy. Anyway, thanks for your advice. Is Neck frill of any relation to the frill seen on the frill-necked lizard? Currently, the article only refers to the frill being on dinosaurs, but many current animals have the neck frill. Does the neck frill article actually mean the parietal, or does it include all aspects of neck frill? If so, then I can write about many other animals which have neck frills. Please advise as I'd like to start work straight away. :) Thansk, Spawn Man 07:48, 12 April 2007 (UTC)
- Hi Spawn Man,
- I think that you are right that just about any neck frill, whether it's on a dinosaur or on (your own example) a frill-necked lizard is technically a "neck frill". Strictly speaking about the anatomical part we use for dinosaurs, in the early 1900s, the preferred term for this bone was the dermosupraoccipital (used by von Huene, Hay, and Gilmore, at least). If you read the older papers, that is the bone they are referring to. You are correct that we now call this the parietal; most (but not all) of the neck frill is composed of the parietal. In the earliest members of the Ceratopsian clade, there was no frill, only a parietal shelf. I hope this helps! Good luck with the article. Firsfron of Ronchester 09:01, 12 April 2007 (UTC)
- How does the article look now? Much better eh? :) Spawn Man 04:15, 13 April 2007 (UTC)

Yeast seems to be going well - must be getting close to nomination..Someone nominated Amanita phalloides for GA which is on hold. With some good articles I've been able to expand it quite a bit. Re: RfA tally
My understanding is that the tally removal was only on the Moralis RfA as an experiment & nothing more. This already has adopted huge objection to it, & I see no other guideline or piece of info that states that there can be no more tallies. If you can provide some info supporting your claim, I'll accept, but if not, I'd like to reserve the right to relocate the tally on that RfA... Thanks, Spawn Man 10:10, 14 April 2007 (UTC)
- The issue of tallies and the issue of the formatting of comments are two separate issues which got a little conflated on the talk page because people put some comments in the wrong section. There is some discussion earlier on my talk page, and some more discussion over at WT:RFA, in which only one person disagreed with removing the tallies and they didn't provide a reason. --bainer (talk) 10:23, 14 April 2007 (UTC)
Ah, my apologies.
I read one of your sentences to mean something different than what you evidently meant it to mean. In my mind, Commons is not part of Wikipedia; thus when you said you would like to see image contributions to Wikipedia, I read that to mean instead of Commons. Thus my post.
Sorry to have misunderstood you: can I blame lack of sleep? It's 4:30 am here and I haven't slept much.
I don't have 'must have contributed image content' on my personal requirements to support an admin candidacy, but I do like to see at least a minimal understanding of copyright and image policy, one of the ways of showing that being a history of good image contributions; another way is intelligent participation in the image deletion or tagging process, or intelligent participation in discussion about it. It's not an automatic 'no' for me if they don't have it, but I do like to see it. Of course, a history of copyright violation or other evidence of questionable understanding of image policy would be a serious black mark. Matthew Brown (Morven) (T:C)

- I found a couple of old images that I took a few years ago, and uploaded them: Image:Caldecotte_Lake.jpg and Image:All_Saints_Milton_Keynes.jpg. I've released them both into the public domain (so strictly speaking it would have been better to upload them to Commons, but never mind). Does that satisfy your requirements? - Thank you for changing your vote. I appreciate it. :-) It looks like I might just about get through; the vote currently stands at 44/6/4, which constitutes 86% consensus according to the bureaucrats' noticeboard. But best not to count my chickens before they hatch - a lot could happen between now and Friday, and the 'crats don't always promote even where there is a clear majority in support. (E.g. Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/KyraVixen). But once again, thanks! Walton Vivat Regina! 09:00, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
Re:Walter Monarchist RfA
Hi - it was a reference to your "joke" on my RfA. I'll strike the comment out. Rama's arrow (just a sexy boy) 09:57, 15 April 2007 (UTC)
Re. Respect:
Thank you for the compliment, Spawn Man. :-) I'm not going to ask why, but I should inform that all that respect is probably undeserved as I still haven't started WikiProject:Skyscrapers (which I promised to you during my RfA). However, I intend to kick it off in the near future. Maybe you could give me a hand then. :-) Kindest regards, Húsönd 20:45, 15 April 2007 (UTC)
Wedding bells?
Congratulations, Spawn Man! Hope you and the lucky lady have a fantastic life together! :) I'm so excited for you. – Riana ऋ 05:37, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
Hey
Just saw this and wanted to say I'm sorry you're having a hard time right now. You're invited to help me get Styracosaurus up to GA-status, if that will help you take your mind off your troubles, mate. :) I just sent it to the new Scientific Peer Review, and I don't know what to expect. The old peer review never got many comments... Best wishes, Firsfron of Ronchester 06:53, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks, but I think I'll still go ahead with my break - wouldn't want to seem like I don't go ahead with things eh? Anywa, I'm sure I'll come back when I find something I really want to write about & then find out that there's already an article. But by that time, I'd be hooked again, so we'd start from the begining again lol. Hope you get the article to GA status. Will be back in a few days - 1 month at most. Besides, it's a good excuse to get some "alone" time with my new fiance without feeling obliged to edit Wikipedia. You married Firs? I'll look forward to your answer when I get back... My money's on divorced with 3 kids & a love child? ;) JK. Cheers mate... :) Spawn Man 08:13, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
- If you're concerned people will think you don't follow through with things, you needn't worry: I'd much rather have you around than insist on you keeping your promise that you're going on wiki-holiday. ;) I do hope you enjoy your time away, and that you and your new fiance can enjoy your time alone. I am not divorced, but am reluctant to give out a lot of details about my family, etc, on Wikipedia, where everything is so public. As always, you can e-mail me for all the dirt. Best wishes and happy non-editing, Firsfron of Ronchester 04:34, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

Daniel Bryant
Please be advised that under the user page policy, "Policy does not prohibit users from removing comments from their own talk pages, though archiving is preferred. Please note, though, that the removal of good-faith warnings, even though permitted, is often frowned upon." Also, following much discussion, particularly Wikipedia:Centralized discussion/Removing warnings, there is no consensus that removing even legitimate warnings from one's own talk page is vandalism. Obviously if removal of legitimate vandal warnings is permitted then the removal of unwelcome discussion is also permitted. The broad consensus among admins is that we will not block a user for violating 3RR on his own talk page or for removing warnings, but we will, if necessary, block users who violate 3RR on another editor's talk page or who harass that editor with continued discussion when discussion is unwanted. I have not looked at the comment that apparently started this ruckus, and I have no general opinion about your conduct elsewhere (at this time, anyway). However, as long as there is a public forum for the discussion of this issue (at the noticeboard), and since every editor has broad discretion over his or her own user and user talk pages, I suggest you stop posting to Daniel's talk page. I am prepared to block you for harassment and/or violating 3RR on Daniel's talk page if you persist. Thatcher131 04:12, 18 April 2007 (UTC)
- Thank you for explaining the policy to me Thatcher. Now that I know fully I can see that my persistant comments could have been seen as vandalism. I have ceased posting there & now know the rules a little bit more clearly - at least you took the time to explain where Daniel couldn't be bothered. Thanks, Spawn Man 04:18, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

Workers Voice article proposed for deletion
Hi. This article has an odd edit history -- it started out as a stub about a Turkish Communist newspaper and was later morphed into a semi-advert for a Newfoundland quarterly magazine with the same name. You made an edit to this article at one point in the past. I have proposed it for deletion since it does not demonstrate notability using any references. If you can find a reliable source to establish notability, feel free to do so and strip off the {{prod}} tag. --A. B. (talk) 18:01, 22 April 2007 (UTC)
AfD nomination of Workers Voice (Canada)
The article got deprodded and renamed but it still has notability issues, so I have nominated it to be deleted via AfD. If you are interested in the deletion discussion, please participate by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Workers Voice (Canada). --A. B. (talk) 18:23, 27 April 2007 (UTC)

Rather this is to let you know I support you in whatever decision you may come to, and sincerely wish you all the best irregardless. You're very welcome. Whilst I don't think I'd ever directly interacted with you, I had seen you around on a number of occasions and been very impressed by your contributions so I was very shocked when I saw that you'd retired. Mr. Spawn Man!
Spawn man, Spawn man, does whatever a Spawn BABE can! :) Baby, these days, the messages backlog I have is covering my head, and pray that you don't have to take care of a bub all by yourself someday - time gets like grains of sands in your hands! I prefer to email you, that's the reason I was taking longer - but hey, it's an awesome chance to drop by, huggggg you and invite you to meet me at your mailbox in a short while ;) Love you Spawn babe, it's great to see you again! Phaedriel - 03:29, 17 May 2007 (UTC)
- Yes, dear, I gave birth a month and two weeks ago - which is big part of the reason I'm back here, to tell the truth :) Ok, then, I'll hold on to the email! let me know when you've sorted the problem out, ok? We will talk more, like we always do - do you have any doubts? ;) It's awesome to see you again! Phaedriel - 03:39, 17 May 2007 (UTC)
- Yes, I've followed some of your latest mishaps, and it saddened me a lot to see you departed just days before I returned. But knowing you as I do, I was confident your love for the project would lead us back to you. While you were away, I met your friend Casliber, by the way - he's a great guy! Now that i think about it, how come all of you guys who write about dinosaurs are so nice? You, him, Firsfron, Blnguyen... must be some kind of genetic predisposition? ;) Phaedriel - 03:48, 17 May 2007 (UTC)
Thanks
Thanks for the welcome back Spawnmeister. I'll try to stick around this time but I am always busy and moving from project to project so no promises. However I have already done some stuff as you may have seen. Happy editing! Sheep81 05:00, 17 May 2007 (UTC)
