Table Tennis article to-do list
[edit]Table tennis article is now semi-protected. Cialo (talk) 10:27, 15 September 2010 (UTC)
Updated 18:53, 3 September 2010 (UTC) by Guoguo12--Talk-- . Please feel free to add to the list.
- Find more reliable sources
- General cleanup for grammar, punctuation, capitalization, style (per WP:MOS), especially:
- En dash (not hyphen) in score pairs and page ranges (see MOS:ENDASH)
- Sentence case (not title case) for section headings and table headings
- Possibly consider shortening the "Types of shots" subsection
Please continue recycling. Yug (talk) 19:33, 29 September 2010 (UTC)
Spotted this on the new page log. Unfortunately I have nooo familiarity with table tennis and so I'm struggle to get just what it's on about -- is it trying to combine the results of two separate table tennis tournaments in to one? Or is it one tournament with separate sections?
I'm fairly sure this is the wrong title, for sure, as it sounds more like it's talking about Americans who have won table tennis titles. If it is indeed talking about two different tournaments I'm not sure this page should really exist. Would probably be better served by having a page on each of the individual tournaments with champions listed there; I'm not sure there would be enough overlap to warrant a combined results article. Anyway, I'd love to get some insight from people who actually know the game :) Thanks to anyone who can shed some light! AllynJ (talk | contribs) 21:32, 14 October 2010 (UTC)
- According to USATT schedule, US Nationals and US Open are two separate tournaments. Different pages for the tournaments might be better. MediocreVisitor (talk) 09:38, 16 October 2010 (UTC)
WikiWomen's History Month
[edit]Hi everyone. March is Women's History Month and I'm hoping a few folks here at WP:Table tennis will have interest in putting on events (on and off wiki) related to women's roles in table tennis. We've created an event page on English Wikipedia (please translate!) and I hope you'll find the inspiration to participate. These events can take place off wiki, like edit-a-thons, or on wiki, such as themes and translations. Please visit the page here: WikiWomen's History Month. Thanks for your consideration and I look forward to seeing events take place! SarahStierch (talk) 21:12, 1 February 2012 (UTC)
Table tennis racket article
[edit]Table tennis racket could use some attention. Anybody care to improve the article (particularly get more sources)? —danhash (talk) 14:41, 7 March 2012 (UTC)
- Can anybody please mention the term blade in a aproppiate way in the table tennis racked article? In most people articles the term blade is used widely, but there is not aricle in wikipedia were to find the term explained. Similar to rubbers. Osplace 01:46, 9 October 2012 (UTC)
- According to ITTF Technical Leaflet, rubber implies any material that can be stretched at room temperature to twice its original length, and that, after being held in the stretched state for one minute, retracts within one further minute to less than 1.5 times its original length. I can't find ITTF official definition of the term "blade", the definition can be found in a dictionary like this one. -- MediocreVisitor (talk) 07:16, 9 October 2012 (UTC)
- In the equipment section, ITTF sections are about rackets. But in this PERSSON Jorgen bio, ITTF mentions after rubber the term blade. So, this is ITTF, they should define the term blade if they are going to use it. Osplace 00:55, 10 October 2012 (UTC)

Hello, myself and two other wikipedians(Briann23 (talk · contribs),KeithJewman (talk · contribs)) are currently working on a school project in which we need to expand upon Lily Zhang's wikipedia page. The deadline is October 4th. We would greatly appreciate any help we could get in retrieving sources, editing the page, finding photos/video, and formatting that can be used on Wikipedia. The current version of the page is Lily Zhang. Thanks for any help you might be able to give us! Racoon42 (talk) 22:56, 26 September 2012 (UTC)
If anyone has a picture they own of Lily Zhang please upload it to wikimedia commons. We desperately want one for the page! Racoon42 (talk) 01:26, 4 October 2012 (UTC)
Rankings
[edit]In most sports the rankings of the International Federation are presented in a separate article, can we do that? Osplace 01:46, 9 October 2012 (UTC)
- Sure, why not? There are articles on the ITTF world ranking in French, German and Chinese Wikipedia. -- MediocreVisitor (talk) 07:25, 9 October 2012 (UTC)

Comment on the WikiProject X proposal
[edit]Hello there! As you may already know, most WikiProjects here on Wikipedia struggle to stay active after they've been founded. I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will study what makes WikiProjects succeed in retaining editors and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. Please review the proposal here and leave feedback. If you have any questions, you can ask on the proposal page or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you for your time! (Also, sorry about the posting mistake earlier. If someone already moved my message to the talk page, feel free to remove this posting.) Harej (talk) 22:48, 1 October 2014 (UTC)

WikiProject X is live!
[edit]Hello everyone!
You may have received a message from me earlier asking you to comment on my WikiProject X proposal. The good news is that WikiProject X is now live! In our first phase, we are focusing on research. At this time, we are looking for people to share their experiences with WikiProjects: good, bad, or neutral. We are also looking for WikiProjects that may be interested in trying out new tools and layouts that will make participating easier and projects easier to maintain. If you or your WikiProject are interested, check us out! Note that this is an opt-in program; no WikiProject will be required to change anything against its wishes. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!
Note: To receive additional notifications about WikiProject X on this talk page, please add this page to Wikipedia:WikiProject X/Newsletter. Otherwise, this will be the last notification sent about WikiProject X.

Touch shots
[edit]I was just reading the table tennis racket article and found the term touch shot. I thought it was a typo and should be "tough" at first but a Google search tells me that it's a special TT term. It would probably help readers if this term were to be defined; possibly in a list of table tennis terms. Dismas|(talk) 13:44, 2 March 2016 (UTC)

A new newsletter directory is out!
[edit]A new Newsletter directory has been created to replace the old, out-of-date one. If your WikiProject and its taskforces have newsletters (even inactive ones), or if you know of a missing newsletter (including from sister projects like WikiSpecies), please include it in the directory! The template can be a bit tricky, so if you need help, just post the newsletter on the template's talk page and someone will add it for you.

Table tennis Barnstar

- @Jerm: Thanks for the ping. It looks good to me, but there is something about the racket/bat that I think can be better. I don't know if it is the color, I will put my head around it and update my comment. Great job! HandsomeBoy (talk) 09:52, 25 October 2020 (UTC)

Capitalization fixes and such
[edit]I joined the project today and have been working on case fixes (please review my diffs since 20:31, 28 December 2021 to see what I'm up to). I find quite a mix of over-capitalization, e.g. of "Men's Singles" etc. In the case of the Asian Table Tennis Championships articles, they were mostly OK for recent years, but all wrong for 2013 Asian Table Tennis Championships, and various other problems like having "2019" instead of the right year due to copy/paste errors. So I tried to clean that up; there are still a ton of redlinks for details (I think the main editor on that disappeared in mid 2020). In the case of World Table Tennis Championships, most events have overcapitalization in the title (e.g. 2009 World Table Tennis Championships – Men's Singles), unlike most other tournaments. There are about 400 of these to move; any objections if I fix? Dicklyon (talk) 22:53, 28 December 2021 (UTC)
- As an inactive member of the wikiproject, I know the case is under discussion (Wikipedia_talk:Article_titles#RFC on dash-separated titles for sports events) which I don't have a preference. If you want to rename the articles please take the step "move", and other wikilinks to the articles will be redirected automatically. That will save times and prevent breaking wikilinks like what happened on 2007 World Table Tennis Championships – Women's doubles, just in case you didn't know. LLTT (talk) 07:27, 29 December 2021 (UTC)
- I did "move" that one a while back when I first noticed the problem. Then I paused while seeing how big the problem was, and I noticed that the assumptions built into the infobox nav links cause the broken links. I'll fix all that if there's no objection. Dicklyon (talk) 16:25, 29 December 2021 (UTC)
I did an editting pass over the World Table Tennis Championships articles, fixing dashes and over-capitalization mostly. I noticed that the titles are not as much over-capped since 2000, and that there's a lot less heading overcapping since then, too, much of this thanks to LLTT, so thanks for that. I'll go ahead and bring the older articles up to match. Dicklyon (talk) 16:24, 2 January 2022 (UTC)
- Done. Scrutiny is requested, in case I messed up some place. Dicklyon (talk) 18:49, 2 January 2022 (UTC)

Question
[edit]I just started Wally Green (table tennis). Is Table Tennis Guide [1] an ok EL for stats or are there better ones? Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 21:36, 27 February 2023 (UTC)
Major RfC on capitalization of all our articles
[edit]I thought this was a done deal back in this 2022 RFC but obviously not. A handful of editors did another rfc with no sports projects input at all. And it's being challenged because we just noticed it. This could affect almost every single tennis and Olympic article we have, and goodness know how many other sports. Some may have already been moved it you weren't watching the article. And not just the article titles will be affected but all the player bios that link to the articles. Sure the links would be piped to the right place if thousands of articles moved, but if the wording in a bio still said 2023 Wimbledon Championships – Men's singles or Swimming at the 2020 Summer Olympics – Men's 200 metre backstroke that would likely need to be changed by hand. There is also talk of removing the ndash completely.
Perhaps this is what sports projects want and perhaps not. Either way I certainly don't want projects ill-informed as the last RfC was handled. Express your thoughts at the following rfc. Fyunck(click) (talk) 20:58, 20 September 2023 (UTC)
