Charmange Sund is a Sokovian CIA agent who swore vengeance on Helmut Zemo due to his crimes and instigating of the Avengers Civil War causing great damage to the international reputation of Sokovia. In order to take her vengeance, Sund stole the Winter Soldier Book from the evidence room in the Joint Counter Terrorist Centre Building, catching the attention of Everett Ross and Black Panther, who started to pursue her. Sund managed to escape from them, committing a series of small terrorist bombings to distract the attention of the police and Ross's men, before breaking into the Joint Counter Terrorist Centre Building to break Zemo out, intending to take him to the roof of the building to kill him. Before she could do so, however, she was distracted by Black Panther and incapacitated by Ross, returning to the Joint Counter Terrorist Centre Building as a prisoner.

Biography[]

CIA Service[]

Charmange Sund was a native of Sokovia, being greatly proud of her homeland and conscientious of its international reputation. Following the Battle of Sokovia, Sund travelled to the wreckage of Novi Grad to collect fragments of vibranium left over from the bodies of Ultron and his sentries, intending to use them as makeshift bullets. By 2016, she had become a member of the CIA, working closely with fellow agent Everett Ross.[1]

Vengeance Against Zemo[]

Stealing the Winter Soldier Book[]

Following the arrest of fellow Sokovian Helmut Zemo and his incarceration in the Joint Counter Terrorist Centre Building, Sund began to develop a great enmity towards him, believing that his crimes would ruin the reputation of Sokovia forever. Fearing that Zemo would eventually escape, Sund formulated a plan to take her revenge and restore her country's honor. Knowing that Ross and his agents had found the Winter Soldier Book in a boardinghouse in Berlin and brought it back to the Joint Counter Terrorist Centre Building as evidence, Sund entered the evidence room and stole the book while Ross interrogated Zemo. She fled from the agency with the book, hoping to both decode it to learn about any of Zemo's future plans and to use it as a distraction for Ross' agents from her true plan to kill Zemo. A half-hour later, Ross discovered her crime and contacted T'Challa, who was still at the facility after turning over Zemo to the authorities. Ross informed T'Challa of the situation and asked him to help track down Sund and recover the book. T'Challa agreed to help, so Ross told him that Sund had not left Berlin or been sighted at any borders or airports, claiming that he had a lead on her potential location.

While driving to Sund's location in a nondescript van, Ross revealed to T'Challa that she, like all agency employees, had been microchipped in order to track their location. Arriving at the location the microchip signal indicated, Ross and T'Challa realized that Sund had hidden herself within the Berlin State Opera. At that moment, Sund, who had immediately recognized the make and model of the van, fired several of her vibranium fragments at the van. Despite the van's strong safety glass and armor plating, Sund's vibranium fragments sliced through them. Sund then targeted the van's tires, blowing out all four of them and causing Ross to lose control over the van and crash. Even though the van had been flipped over, Sund continued firing at it, with one fragment painfully grazing T'Challa's left arm as he carried Ross to safety despite the protection of his own vibranium Panther Habit. Ross noticed that the fragments, which he thought were bullets, were coming from a window on the opera building's top floor and sent T'Challa to capture Sund.

Sund, noticing T'Challa approaching her hideout, took the Winter Soldier Book and fled from the building, escaping through a side door and driving away in a hot-wired car. Although T'Challa quickly broke into the room soon afterwards, he was too late to capture Sund, being unable to find her in either the hideout or the rest of the building. Despite losing Sund, T'Challa noticed that remains of her vibranium "bullets" littered the floor. T'Challa was contacted by Ross, being informed that they had lost track of Sund's location, as something was interfering with her microchip. Meeting back up with Ross, who had sent the rest of his team to inspect the surrounding area for further clues, T'Challa told him that Sund's "bullets" were actually shards of vibranium, explaining their ability to pierce through the van's armor and T'Challa's Panther Habit. Knowing that Wakanda had not provided Sund with vibranium, T'Challa and Ross theorized that she had somehow acquired some of the vibranium stolen from Wakanda by Ulysses Klaue, suggesting that whoever had given her the vibranium was the person to whom she intended to deliver the book.

As Sund fled from the Berlin State Opera building, believing that Ross would soon send a team of agents after her to terminate her, she laid a series of explosives along the Unter den Linden from the SchlossbrĂŒcke to the Brandenburg Gate before detonating them. Although the blasts were small and caused little damage and no human casualties, Sund hoped that they would attract the attention of the police and Ross's men, enabling her to return to the Joint Counter Terrorist Centre Building to kill Zemo. At this time, T'Challa, who had returned to the same building with Ross, realized that Sund was a native of Sokovia while reading through her file, suggesting to Ross that her vibranium fragments may have originated from leftover vibranium pieces collected from Ultron and his sentries. T'Challa and Ross were then informed by a junior agent about Sund's bombings, although she was unaware that the bombings were caused by Sund. Ross instructed the agent to monitor the situation while he and T'Challa mused about the connection between the shooting at the opera building, the bombings, and the theft of the Winter Soldier Book. T'Challa realized that Sund was the connection between all three incidents and that her real plan was to get vengeance on Zemo just before Sund, knowing the inner workings of the building's power system, cut the power, intending to break Zemo out of prison in the chaos and kill him herself.[1]

Final Revenge[]

"You and your plans. This book of yours. You have ruined the name of Sokovia for all time. When people think of our country, now they will think of a madman. A maniac. A murderer. And don’t tell me that killing you won’t solve anything. Because it will. When the world learns that Zemo is gone, then Sokovia’s good name will be restored."
―Charmange Sund to Helmut Zemo[src]

While T'Challa and Ross raced to Zemo's cell, Sund managed to beat them there and opened the cell, ordering Zemo to come with her. Sund brought Zemo to the roof of the Joint Counter Terrorist Centre Building, pushing him towards the edge while pointing a gun at his heart. Before she attempted to kill him, Sund lambasted Zemo for his crimes, claiming that people would only think of him and his murderous actions when they thought of her homeland. She asserted that killing Zemo would restore Sokovia's good name, but she was stopped by T'Challa, who had reached the roof after finding Zemo missing from his cell. Surprised, Sund quickly spun around and shot at T'Challa with one of her vibranium fragments, piercing him on his right side through his Panther Habit once again before turning back to Zemo, grabbing him roughly by the neck and jabbing her gun into his chest. T'Challa attempted to talk Sund down from her quest for vengeance, claiming that she was just continuing Zemo's cycle of revenge, but Sund refused, desiring to make Zemo pay for his murders and defaming of Sokovia's honor. At that moment, Ross arrived at the roof and shot Sund in her right hand, wounding her and causing her to drop her weapon and release Zemo from her grip. T'Challa prevented Zemo from committing suicide himself by jumping off of the roof and he and Ross took both Sund and Zemo into custody, reclaiming the Winter Soldier Book in the process.

Zemo was placed back in his cell under armed guard while Sund was temporarily brought to Ross's office, awaiting a decision as to her fate. Despite her actions, Ross agreed with T'Challa that Sund was a victim as well, declaring that he would see to it that she received help.[1]
