Christine Everhart interviews Tony Stark

Everhart approached Tony Stark outside of Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, Nevada after his Apogee Award ceremony. When Happy Hogan deemed her attractive enough, Stark agreed to speak to her. Everhart questioned him on Stark Industries' business practices in weapons manufacturing, noting his nicknames as the "da Vinci of Our Time" and "Merchant of Death." Stark deflected her questions, claiming that the world would always need weapons to keep the peace, though Everhart believed this was simply war profiteering. He soon invited her back to his mansion in Malibu. Charmed by Stark's confidence, reputation, and attractiveness, she accepted, and had rough and passionate sex with him that night.[1]

The Morning After[]

"After all these years, Tony still has you picking up the dry cleaning."
"I do anything and everything that Mr. Stark requires. Including occasionally taking out the trash. Will that be all?"
―Christine Everhart and Pepper Potts[src]

The following morning, Everhart woke up alone, still nude from the previous night. After overlooking the incredible view from Stark's bedroom, she donned his discarded shirt and began exploring the mansion, looking for her sexual partner.

Everhart was halted from accessing a restricted area, being greeted by J.A.R.V.I.S. and Pepper Potts. Potts returned her missing clothes, which were now washed and dry-cleaned, and told Everhart that she had arranged for a car to take her home. Annoyed at Stark unceremoniously dumping her, Everhart exchanged insults with Potts, noting that Stark still made her do laundry. In response, Potts had her coldly escorted out, stating that she was also sometimes tasked with taking out the trash, silencing Everhart's complaints and leaving her speechless.[1]

Questioning Tony Stark[]

Everhart confronts Tony Stark

"You have a lot of nerve showing up here tonight. Can I at least get a reaction from you?"
"Panic. I would say panic is my reaction."
"I was referring to your company's involvement in this latest atrocity."
―Christine Everhart and Tony Stark[src]

Once Tony Stark returned from Afghanistan after being kidnapped by the Ten Rings, Everhart ambushed Stark at the third annual Stark Industries benefit for the Firefighters Family Fund. She accused Stark of lying about halting weapons manufacturing, and showed him images proving SI was still selling weapons and that they had been sold to the Ten Rings in Gulmira.

Horrified, Stark headed outside to confront Obadiah Stane with Everhart in tow, where she listened in on their conversation, hearing Stark accuse Stane of selling weapons to third parties and Stane's confession of attempting to remove Stark from his company.[1]

Stark's Press Conference[]

"I'm sorry, Mr. Stark, but do you honestly expect us to believe that that was a bodyguard in a suit that conveniently appeared?"
―Christine Everhart to Tony Stark[src]

Everhart attended Tony Stark's press conference after the Duel of Los Angeles, and listened as Stark read from cards explaining what little involvement he had had in the battle.

Everhart learns Tony Stark is Iron Man

Everhart interrupted Stark and expressed her suspicions of him being Iron Man, which he denied, though he did accuse Everhart of calling him a superhero, which she denied as well. Shortly following this exchange, Stark told the world that Everhart was right and he was indeed Iron Man. This caused a massive reaction from all the reporters, who got up from their seats, except for Everhart.[1]

"And she wrote a story, as well."
―Pepper Potts and Tony Stark[src]

Everhart accompanied Justin Hammer to Monaco since she had to interview him for Vanity Fair. While there, they bumped into Tony Stark and Pepper Potts, who were also attending. Everhart asked Potts for a quote on her recent promotion to CEO of Stark Industries and then attempted to make Stark jealous, only to be humiliated when he casually mentioned their brief tryst. She began questioning Stark on his association with Hammer since his senate hearing.

Everhart quickly lost interest in Hammer when Stark informed her that his military contract was revoked. She continued the interview anyway, as Hammer insisted that he and Stark had a close friendship as well as a rivalry. When Stark was shown on television commandeering a race car in the Circuit de Monaco, Everhart claimed to Hammer that she needed to make a phone call to her editor, leaving him alone at their table while she pursued this story.[2]

―Christine Everhart[src]

Some time later, Everhart left Vanity Fair and found employment with WHiH World News. During this time, she reported on the aftermath of the Avengers' recent Battle of Sokovia,[3] as well as commenting on Scott Lang's release from prison. Everhart later interviewed Lang a day before his release from the San Quentin State Prison, discussing his heist on VistaCorp and his intentions behind it.[4]

Everhart later discussed the issue of more government control and transparency on super-powered citizens, regarding the recent conflict in Sokovia. She then reported more details on the multi-million dollar robbery by Lang, a convicted cyber-criminal, in light of his upcoming release from prison. Everhart also mentioned Lang's multiple claims against VistaCorp that the company has been robbing their own clients for years, but Everhart remarked that an SEC investigation found no proof of his allegations.[5]

Interviewing Scott Lang[]

Everhart interviewing Scott Lang

"Mr. Lang, with all due respect, WHiH has been covering global news in detail for the past two decades. From the recent security breach at S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters, to the earth-shattering events at Sokovia. I reported on Tony Stark in Gulmira and believe me, you're no Tony Stark."
―Christine Everhart to Scott Lang[src]

Everhart interviewed Scott Lang, a day before his release from San Quentin State Prison. They discussed the reason behind his heist; however, Lang felt that Everhart was being unfair to him, due to VistaCorp being the owner of WHiH World News. His animosity towards the remarks made by the news anchor resulted in him getting tased.[6]

Discussion of Regulation[]

WHIH201-04

Everhart and Will Adams discuss regulation

"What is the final cost of intervention from groups like the Avengers? Who do they answer to in the wake of their actions? Joining me on the program is political correspondent Will Adams."
―Christine Everhart[src]

For a special report of Newsfront, Everhart was joined by Will Adams to discuss the intervention and later repercussions of heroes like the Avengers. The two had opposing views on the matter, Everhart thinking the heroes should be held accountable for the devastation left behind, while Adams didn't think they should even be questioned for their heroics. In their discussion, they addressed the HYDRA's resurfacing through S.H.I.E.L.D., amongst other instances of the Avengers saving lives.[7]

WHIH202-02

Everhart addresses the financial concerns

In the next segment of the report, Everhart and Adams discussed the financial responsibilities for the damages the heroes cause during their "exploits", as Everhart put it, although Adams rephrased that they were saving their lives. Everhart raised the question of whether it should be left to the ones who cause the damages, or the citizens left in the aftermath. After interviewing some civilians on the matter, they were still left without a definitive answer to their question.[8]

WHIH203-02

Everhart asks about Matthew Ellis' position

Everhart then reported that the financial cost of the cleanups from the Battle at the Triskelion, the Battle of New York and the Battle of Sokovia have crossed the trillion dollar mark. Adams informed Everhart of President Matthew Ellis and the White House's position on the matter, commemorating the cleanup effort of Washington, D.C. and signalling out Steve Rogers and Sam Wilson for their heroics, and that those actually responsible have been neutralized, much to Everhart's disagreement.

WHIH203-19

Everhart disagreeing with Will Adams

Everhart then announced Ellis meeting with Thaddeus Ross to discuss a potential role in politics for him. When Adams addressed the effectiveness of heroes, Everhart didn't believe they were, and believed that bringing in Ross would help governments work with the heroes. Despite passionately discussing the topic, Everhart and Adams were not able to come to an agreement.[9]

Interviewing President Ellis[]

"Increasing numbers of world leaders are calling for oversight of the Avengers especially in light of recent events and sensitive data being leaked to the public. Simply put: What is your position on this?"
―Christine Everhart to Matthew Ellis[src]

Everhart was able to get President Matthew Ellis in for an interview to ask him about nominating Thaddeus Ross as Secretary of State, and his thoughts on regulating the Avengers. Ellis informed Everhart on his view on the sensitive topic, in that he supported the heroes for their noble efforts.

However, he added that these heroes should collaborate with the government, which Everhart happily enquired if Ross would be the one to facilitate this relationship. Ellis claimed that Ross would due to his experience while serving. After concluding the interview, Will Adams suggested speaking with any of the heroes directly to understand their position on the matter, which Everhart found herself agreeing with, much to her surprise. Everhart then revealed her desire to meet Steve Rogers.[10]

Reporting on the Lagos Attack[]

"It's been several hours since the incident in Lagos, Nigeria. Information is sparse, and full extent of the damage is still unknown."
―Christine Everhart[src]

After the catastrophe of the Avengers' battle with Crossbones in Lagos, Nigeria, Everhart was tasked with reporting on it, alongside Will Adams. Everhart spoke with correspondent Jackson Norris, who was at the scene and informed them of the Avengers present during the incident, as well as Brock Rumlow's involvement.

WHIH205-12

Everhart then cut Norris off to listen to President Matthew Ellis addressing the incident. Everhart then took from Ellis that something needs to be done about the Avengers, but Adams argued it was just about supporting the heroes. However, Everhart was strongly against Adams' views on the Avengers, believing they should be regulated.[11]

Reviewing Scott Lang's Book[]

"Funny, intense, and honest—the transparency we have been waiting for from our super-powered citizens."
―Christine Everhart[src]

By 2025. Everhart was still working at WHiH Newsfront. She reviewed Scott Lang's book Look Out for the Little Guy!, calling it "funny, intense and honest".[12][13]

Personality[]

"I look forward to you trying to convince me that anything they've done is less than admirable."
"You look forward to me winning."
―Will Adams and Christine Everhart[src]

Christine Everhart is a dedicated reporter and news anchor with profound journalistic knowledge and good communication skills. During her time as a reporter, she even kept a handheld recorder on her at all times in case an interesting story appeared. Although affable as per her job requirements, Everhart possesses a sharp tongue and will not hide her bias from anyone, including her interviewees. When she interviewed Tony Stark, Everhart initially took a neutral approach, but expressed her disdain for Stark's views when he demonstrated blatant favoritism for weapons.

Years later, Everhart developed a more conservative viewpoint, which she expresses during her newscasts for WHiH World News. Everhart seems to be much more critical on matters regarding super-powered individuals and their unregulated actions, though she does acknowledge how much they have assisted humanity. Scott Lang found Everhart's unapologetic conservatism rather irritating, which resulted in him being tased by a prison security guard.

Abilities[]

  • Expert Investigator: As a graduate from Brown University, Everhart has knowledge in investigative journalism, though she chose to apply her skills to sensationalism while working for Vanity Fair. While working on a profile about Tony Stark, both before and after his kidnapping, she managed to find out Stark Industries' role in weaponizing the Ten Rings during their skirmishes in and around Gulmira, and confronted Stark with the truth about it, despite he had promised the dismantlement of their weapons division.
