"I'm honored that you would visit our home."
Gideon Malick to Hive[src]

The Malick Mansion is a mansion owned by the Malick family. For several years, it hosted ceremonies during which HYDRA members were elected to be sent to Maveth to serve Hive.

History[]

Paradise Lost[]

"A ceremony where grown men draw stones from a bag and one unlucky participant draws a white stone and is sacrificed to a liquid rock."
"To be chosen as the Traveler is a great honor."
Daniel Whitehall and Nathaniel Malick[src]

For years, the Malick Mansion hosted ceremonies during which HYDRA members would pick little stones in a bag. The one picking the white stone would be elected as the Traveler, designated to go to Maveth through the Monolith in order to assist and try to bring back Hive to Earth.

While only chance should have guided these ceremonies, Wilfred Malick devised a trick to ensure his survival through the years: he hid a marked white stone in the bag which was easily recognizable upon touch, thus ensuring to avoid picking it and having to travel to the forsaken planet. While not in use, the white stone remained hidden in a Paradise Lost book in the Malick Mansion's library.[1]

The Loss of a Father[]

YoungMalick-Funeral

"Nathaniel and I will do everything we can to continue our father's work."
Gideon Malick[src]

In 1970, the visitors of the funeral service for Wilfred Malick gathered at his mansion. When the last visitors left, Nathaniel Malick was told that he and his brother had to come with them to visit Daniel Whitehall in the Rat. At first Gideon was unwilling to come, since their father never believed in Whitehall, but the brothers eventually obeyed.[1]

Coming of Age[]

"I thought we had a deal."
Nathaniel Malick to Gideon Malick[src]

Following their interview with Daniel Whitehall who told them about their father's trick, Gideon and Nathaniel Malick went back to the Mansion as their first Traveler naming ceremony was upcoming. Nathaniel went to the library and retrieved the Paradise Lost book with the special stone hidden in it. Gideon told his brother that they would not resort to such tricks and undergo the ceremony the right way. However, he secretly kept the stone and placed him in the bag at the beginning of the ceremony. Thus, Gideon avoided being chosen while Nathaniel was designated as the Traveler, eventually serving as Hive's host on Maveth. Much like his father, Gideon survived the following ceremonies thanks to the notched stone trick.[1]

Hive's Visit[]

ParadiseLost2

Hive promises to reveal his true form

"Are you saying that he's here?"
"Why? I thought you'd be happy."
"Just answer the question."
"He showed up earlier and asked me to gather the inner circle."
Gideon Malick and Stephanie Malick[src]

Arriving at the mansion after Battle at the Transia Corporation Building and considering the vision that Charles Hinton had shown him of his own horrifically painful death, Gideon Malick was greeted by his daughter and then by Hive who had arrived earlier. Hive stated that he had come to the mansion so he could reveal his true self to both the Malick family and the other members of HYDRA's inner circle. While walking in the yard, Malick voiced his concerns that Hive would eventually kill him just like Charles Hinton had predicted.[1]

Real Form[]

"You'll all get what you deserve. And for those of you still having doubts... see and believe."
Hive[src]

When the heads of HYDRA arrived at the estate, Hive greeted them and explained that he had finally returned from Maveth thanks to their assistance. However, Kirk Vogel expressed his disbelief that Hive was not truly who he said he was and was in fact Grant Ward. Hive proceeded to explain that he was Ward, and all the other sacrifices that had been sent to him over the thousands of years alone on that distant planet.

Seeing that Vogel and several other HYDRA leaders were still skeptical about his identity, Hive told them to watch and believe before allowing Ward's skin to fade away into dust. Malick and the other gathered looked on horrified when they saw that Hive's true form consisted of with tentacles coming from his flesh.[1]

True Sacrifice[]

"Now you understand sacrifice."
Hive to Gideon Malick[src]

After revealing his true form, Hive went to the Malick Mansion's library where he found Gideon Malick and exposed his trick to his daughter Stephanie, using Nathaniel's memories and personality. Although he felt sorry for having lied to his daughter, Malick claimed he was willing to die by Hive's hands. However, Hive was keen on inflicting a much more violent pain and killed Stephanie in front of Malick so that he would understand what a true sacrifice really meant.[1]
