Lt. Cmdr. Jean Robert Lapp was Yang Wen-li's friend from the days when they were classmates at the Officer Academy. He was held in high regard by Yang, who valued the fact that Lapp's thoughts and methods differed from his own.

He died in the Battle of Astarte when his ship, the Pergamonn, was lost in combat. He was posthumously promoted two ranks to the rank of Captain. At the time of his death, he was engaged to Jessica Edwards.
