Gray Jay again

[edit]
Little Gray Jay says “Thank you” :–)

Dear Cart,

thank you again for your thoughts and hints about the Gray Jay image by Serena-Wilderness! I tried to improve the image, but your careful additional editing has given it the final touch.

I am sorry that I did not appreciate your very instructive input in the appropriate way. I wanted to reconstruct your editing with my own version of the image in order to understand fully what you have done, but never found the time. Sorry for this ungrateful behavious. Today I came again about that file. I have uploaded your version right over my one because in every respect it is an important improvement. I hope the hints in the {{Retouched}} template are sufficient and appropriate – just improve them if you want, please.

I really like that this photo now has – besides the photographer – two authors of the derivative version: IMHO this nicely symbolizes the cooperative approach we should strive for on Commons. Thank you again and all the best, Roman / – Aristeas (talk) 07:43, 17 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Round 1 of Picture of the Year 2023 voting is open!

[edit]
2022 Picture of the Year: Great Cormorant (Phalacrocorax carbo), Little Egret (Egretta garzetta) and Gadwall (Mareca strepera) in Nepal.

Dear Wikimedian,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2023 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eighteenth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2023) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topical categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you may vote for as many images as you like. The top 30 overall and top 5% of most popular images in each category will continue to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just three images to become the Picture of the Year.

Round 1 will end on UTC.

Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee

Thank you very much, Cart, for fixing the gallery links for the two new Calavera nominations! While we are at this topic, shouldn’t we also move this Calavera FP and these Porcelain figurines from the “Objects#Ceramics” gallery to the “Figurines and statuettes” section? Best, – Aristeas (talk) 09:14, 23 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Aristeas, sounds fine to me. Always tweaks and sorting to be done. :-) --Cart (talk) 09:19, 23 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

#31 in 2023: Sideview of contracted bluefire jellyfish in Brofjorden at Sandvik 2

Dear Cart, congratulations to place 31 in the POTY 2023 results! Indeed #31 is a great result when we consider that your photo has outdone more than 1000 other excellent photos. All the best, Roman / – Aristeas (talk) 17:04, 29 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Aristeas! The little critter did well. :-) I'll go down to the fjord and tell its relatives that the little jelly is now famous. --Cart (talk) 17:09, 29 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Convey my greetings when you do that - congratulation, this is a wonderful success for such a jellyfish! Kritzolina (talk) 20:24, 29 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
