Son and heir to Sir Edmund Hampden and Joan Belknap, daughter of Sir Robert Belknap, Chief Justice of the Common Pleas.

Second husband of Anne Whalesborough, the daughter of Sir John Whalesborough of Whalesborough, Cornwall and Joan Raleigh, daughter of Sir John Raleigh. They married before 26 Nov 1442, the date of their marriage settlement, and had no children.

Sir Edmund was killed at the Battle of Tewkesbury.
