Biography
editElizabeth Tamajong Vukeh was born on March 12, 1958 in Bamenda in the North-West region (Cameroon). Supported by her mother, she devoted herself to education and the search for knowledge. At the end of her high school studies, she received a scholarship to train at Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland, United States.[1]. She obtained a Bachelor's degree in History in 1981. Her American university training concluded at the University of Minnesota[2] with a Ph.D in Educational Administration in 1985 and a post-doctoral fellowship in Educational leadership in 1993[3].
Career
editElizabeth Tamajong Vukeh after her studies in the United States returns to Cameroon. She started her career as a part-time teacher at the University of Yaoundé I and at the Ecole Normale Supérieure[4] of Yaoundé. She became thesis director and member of several master’s and doctoral juries[5]. Nigerian universities grant her guest lecturer status and she conducts research on Educational leadership[6].
Thanks to her academic work in the educational field, the Ministry of Scientific Research and Innovation awarded her the title of Cameroonian researcher and then Chief research officer[7]. From 2002 to 2018, she directed the National Education Center[8]. This allows her to coordinate several research projects in social development and the publication of scientific journals. She also coordinates the organization of international conferences[9].
In August 2022, she became the Executive director of the Cameroonian branch of The Fomunyoh Foundation (TFF)[10]: a humanitarian foundation that promotes democracy and human rights. This organization was created by Christopher Fomunyoh[11].
Political commitment
editElizabeth Tamajong Vukeh holds several senior positions in the Social Democratic Front (SDF), one of the biggest opposition parties in Cameroon. She works to increase the political participation of women and their involvement in decision-making spheres. As a result, she often has spats with party men. She organizes annual capacity building seminars for women and young people. In 1996, she became Secretary General of SDF[12], under the direction of Chairman Ni John Fru Ndi. However, in 2015, she sent a letter of resignation[13] from her position as Secretary General to the National Executive Committee (NEC)[14] in which she nevertheless claimed to remain a member of the SDF despite strong internal tensions[15]
