1803 Siege Leader Correction

edit

Under the history section of the article, it is claimed that the city was captured via siege by Richard Wellesley, Earl of Mornington. This is using a citation from the Encyclopedia Brittanica, which states that General Wellesley captured the city. This is a correct citation in that a General Wellesley did capture the city in 1803; however, the General in question was not Richard, but Arthur Wellesley, the future Duke of Wellington.

Encyclopedia Iranica is produced by Columbia University and is a scholarly source. It should not be removed from the articles as they are pertinent sources of reference.--Zereshk 12:53, 23 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Changing name of ahmadnagar to ahilyanagar

edit

I first kindly request to change the name of ahmadnagar city to ahilyanagar city Rishabh3k (talk) 04:07, 7 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

For that it seems you need to raise a move request using below template
...

Requested move 6 July 2023

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
The result of the move request was: Procedural close. Malformed and accidental request. It appears that Anubhavklal did not intend to create their own move request, but rather to show Rishabh3k what code to use to create a request. This inadvertantly caused a malformed listing. Anyone can, after reviewing the instructions at WP:RM (and I would recommend looking at WP:NAMECHANGES and WP:CRITERIA for relevant standards), use the following template to create a move request:
{{subst:requested move|New name|reason=Place here your rationale for the proposed page name change, ideally referring to applicable naming convention policies and guidelines, and providing evidence in support where appropriate. If your reasoning includes search engine results, please prioritize searches limited to reliable sources (e.g. books, news, scholarly papers) over other web results. You don't need to add your signature at the end, as this template will do so automatically.}}

what name are are proposing and why?21:10, 6 July 2023 (UTC) —blindlynx 21:10, 6 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
Looking higher up in thr thread the proposal is to change the name to ahilyanagar (I’m assuming the missing first cspitel letter is a mistake) though there is no reason provided as to why that the change should be made.--65.93.194.183 (talk) 21:48, 6 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

Oppose: Only sources I see mentioning "Ahilyanagar" are news articles (all from either 31 May or 1 June) announcing the proposed change. Meanwhile, the official district website uses "Ahmednagar". There's nothing to indicate that "Ahilyanagar" has actually supplanted "Ahmednagar" in current use. 3 kids in a trenchcoat (talk) 20:26, 5 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Ahmednagar renamed as Ahilya Nagar

edit

Ahmednagar renamed as Ahilya Nagar 2404:BA00:1:5B6D:3C46:F46E:FFD0:FC9B (talk) 10:27, 2 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

But the new name of the city was only approved by the state cabinet on 13 March 2024. But if people want to rename the article, they need to present evidence that "Ahilya Nagar" is the commonly used name in English. Note that news stories about the renaming are not evidence that "Ahilya Nagar" is the commonly used name.

The article should be written using the article name, not some other name. I have added a paragraph to the history section on the renaming of the city. This is an important event in the history of the city, whatever the Wikipedia article is called. -- Toddy1 (talk) 10:27, 14 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

I have requested an increase in page protection.-- Toddy1 (talk) 10:25, 18 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Ahmednagar is officially renamed to Ahilyanagar

Maharashtra Government and India Government is charged the Ahmednagar name to Ahilyanagar Pawar shushant (talk) 09:35, 5 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

We obviously know that - the opening words are "Ahmednagar (officially Ahilya Nagar)" - however, our article titles are based on the WP:COMMONNAME in English, not the WP:OFFICIALNAME - Arjayay (talk) 10:14, 5 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
