Referenced sources disagree on whether she or her husband created the first harp
editOssianic Society (1854) says Cana Cludhmor fled her husband Macuel, who pursued her. After finding her asleep next to the whale skeleton, Macuel "proceeded into an adjacent forest" and built the first harp. Presumably he built it to control his wife in the future, though the text isn't explicit.
Monaghan (2004) gives a similar account to this article: Canola wanders the night after an argument with her lover, is lulled to sleep by music, realises it came from wind acting on a sinewy whale skeleton and is inspired to build the first harp. Auset (2009) also claims Canola invented the harp, omitting any mention of husband or lover.
I'm certainly no expert in Celtic mythology or what sources are considered authoritative. Let alone which versions (if any) belong to "authentic" Irish oral tradition and which (again if any) are bowdlerised.
But unless some other source explains the discrepancy, or a overwhelming majority of sources give one version, it seems to me this article should present both versions of the myth. Kleptoplast (talk) 05:31, 19 June 2022 (UTC)
