North Shore Tech

edit

I am taking the North Shore Tech link out of this article because that school is not in Danvers, it is in Middleton, MA

"Salem Village" included part or all the following Present-day Massachusetts cities: Davnvers, Beverly, and Peabody.

"http://www.danvers-ma.org" is the old website. The newest website is properly listed.

Danvers on/near the coast

edit

I have changed "on the Danvers River on the northeastern coast of Massachusetts" back to "on the Danvers River near the northeastern coast of Massachusetts" - this is because "on the coast" implies that it touches the ocean, which Danvers does not. As can be seen on the map at right, Danvers has no coastline. It seems like "near the coast" describes the location of Danvers more accurately than "on the coast." "Near" also sounds better stylistically in this sentence!

Please write back if there is something I am missing here! Bgwwlm (talk) 10:03, 26 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Nice attention to detail.Dave (talk) 14:57, 7 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
Danvers is, in fact, on the coast, see Danvers Port and Danvers Marina. On viewing a real map of the town, Danvers has a port to the sea via the Crane and Porter river mouths which flow through Salem Harbor and out to the Atlantic Ocean. 2600:1009:B047:DCAF:2E8C:24AA:E152:D823 (talk) 04:25, 21 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

Vandalism

edit

It appears that someone is editing the word "meep" randomly into this page. This may be in response to the local high school banning the word. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.6.218.87 (talk) 22:08, 14 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

If it becomes a serious problem the admins will take care of. That is what admins do, in part. Ordinary editors should revert it (rv), of course but warnings etc should be left to those with the power to act on them. One typical response is to block the user but being an admin is a specialized craft. Without the powers you can't do it. Like police, no one likes admins much but everyone yells for one when a conflict arises. They will discover it, believe me.Dave (talk) 14:56, 7 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Directions for the future

edit

This article reads like an extension of the official website, with everything linked and listed. That isn't what WP wants. You can go to the website and read there 90% of this article. All those lists and links have to go. WP is shooting for encyclopedic information rather than practical town information. We don't care in the slightest what Wayne Marquis's telephone number is (Hi, Wayne) and if you want to call the police I would advise you not to use this article to do it. It might be a fatal mistake. We aren't inviting town officials to contribute to this article; in fact, it would be more objective if you did not. I will be gradually changing this article, excising the duplicated material, putting truly encyclopedic links in the "External links" and turning the lists into write-up or else removing them. Feel free to help out if you truly understand that this is an encyclopedia not a useful web site. Anyone can edit of course; that is fundamental WP. The trick is to make edits that will stand.Dave (talk) 15:07, 7 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Murder of Colleen Ritzer

edit

Now being covered by Epoch Times of china: http://www.theepochtimes.com/n3/326633-philip-chism-danvers-teen-found-officials-wont-confirm-if-he-is-suspect/

Philip Chism, Danvers Teen: Report Says He’s the Suspect in ColleenRitzer Slaying The Epoch Times·48 minutes ago Philip Chism was initially reported missing ... but only said the suspect is a 14-year-old. The Danvers Patch website reported that Chism, 14, was initially…

I understand this is news, but question that it has to be featured here. No doubt there have been other murders of persons committed in Danvers since the Salem witch trials, but these have not been featured. The question is, is this murder more notable than all the others, or is it simply convenient to add because it is news now?Parkwells (talk) 09:40, 24 October 2013 (UTC)Reply
Would vote against adding this. I agree that it's convenient that it's recent news but overall not notable for Danvers, MA entry. Charger2 (talk) 15:14, 26 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

Israel Putnam

edit

The citation [8] where Israel rides 100 miles in 18 hours to war makes no sense. Putnams farm in Danvers is within 25 miles of Menotomy (Arlington) where the men of Danvers got into the fray that day. 100 miles would put him halfway across the state. Jp421 (talk) 20:54, 2 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
