Gameplay

edit

You need to discuss more how the core gameplay is different from that of its predecessor, maybe by comparing it to the genre real-time tactics. SharkD 00:02, 13 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Engine

edit

Dark Reign 2 uses its own proprietary 3D engine, shared by Battlezone 2. The Dark Reign team began began developing it after the release of the first game and brought it with them when founding Pandemic along with the Battlezone team. They continued to use it after returning to Australia for Army Men RTS and possibly the Destroy All Humans! series. Meanwhile, Julio Jerez brought his independently-developed Ground Zero engine in-house for several unreleased titles and later Star Wars: The Clone Wars.Kdmiller3 (talk) 21:20, 30 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

Source code leak

edit

I have removed and reworded sections about the source code link of this game that gave the wrong impression that this was an officially sanctioned open sourcing of the game which it was not. A Hacker News user got confirmation of this here: http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=4350254

Also it is quite clear this was not legit since there is 3rd party code from various companies with license headers that explicitly forbids their public disclosure such as code from Intel saying:

/*

*  IMESHUtil.cpp
*
*              INTEL CORPORATION PROPRIETARY INFORMATION
* This software is supplied under the terms of a license agreement or
* nondisclosure agreement with Intel Corporation and may not be copied
* or disclosed except in accordance with the terms of that agreement.

* functions that manage IMESH memory, read and writing of IMESHes, etc.
