Hofstede de Groot 1911 vs. 1912
editHi Edwin - the Ruisdael page is coming along nicely! I just noticed your edit to the reference work by Hofstede de Groot. The reason I keep referring to it as published in 1911 is because though he wrote it in German, he did write it in 1911. The English translation is from 1912, but I think historically (especially when he writes about the whereabouts of paintings) it is better to keep to his original publishing date. In this volume the lag is only one year, but in subsequent volumes the lag becomes quite large. Jane (talk) 13:31, 30 October 2015 (UTC)
- Ah, I see. I'll change them all back. I should figure out how to correctly say in the Bibliography that the original was in German. Thanks for helping out. Edwininlondon (talk) 20:00, 30 October 2015 (UTC)
Sorry I missed supporting this. I will add what I said - remind me if I haven't in a week or two. You could bring it back after a bit more polishing and dealing with remaining points. Johnbod (talk) 13:28, 15 November 2015 (UTC)
Thanks. I have tried to address the remaining points, but not sure if you think it is done well enough:
- tonal - classical: I added something in the Legacy section. Do you think that is sufficient?
- prices: so far I have added one bit, at the end of the Life section, in the bit about dispelling the myth of dying poor. I found a good source for comparative prices.
- landscape status: I have added something about general popularity of landscape, great graph here in Jager 2015, http://www.jhna.org/images/pdfs/angela-jager.pdf, and I think that fits well in the Life section, when talking about him starting painting, what do you think? In any case, I am still looking for something about the low status, with history painting being of higher status.
As for other people's specific comments, I have addressed them all I believe. Just left with your suggestion to polish. I will try to get some copywriting help. Thanks. Edwininlondon (talk) 18:38, 15 November 2015 (UTC)
@Johnbod: Hi Johnbod. You asked me to remind you about you adding something about low status of landscape vs history, and maybe other things you feel are still missing before I bring it back to FAC. I think I have got prices, popularity of landscapes, and tonal v classical covered. It still needs a prose polish by a native speaker, but I've got someone lined up. Thanks for your help. Jacob van Ruisdael
editOMG I can't believe you did it! Congrats and thanks for your hard work on this. Jane (talk) 13:47, 6 February 2016 (UTC)
- I couldn't have done it without you, so many thanks. I hope to get it onto Today's Featured Article on March 10. BTW, I've been slowly creating pages for each of the paintings. How do I get those I did to show up as blue links on List of paintings by Jacob van Ruisdael? Or does that eventually happen automatically? As we discussed before on occasion the names don't really match, so I guess in that case it has to be done manually? Take for instance Storm Off a Sea Coast which I created. In the list it is called Ships in stormy weather off the coast. Did you link it?
I also created these:
- Bentheim Castle (Dublin) which is not in the list, can you add it?
- View of the Binnenamstel at Amsterdam, which is not linked
- View of the Dam and Damrak at Amsterdam which is not in the list
- Dune Landscape near Haarlem which is called The Thicket near Haarlem in the list, but it's not linked. Edwininlondon (talk) 15:13, 6 February 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks! But first of all, let me just say I am perfectly happy with you taking full credit for the FA status, since I lost complete faith in that FA process years ago. I also think you are awesome for doing these painting articles, and I only just noticed. I understand the problem you are having with Wikidata and so I hope I have fixed it by adding the Q numbers inline to the List of paintings by Jacob van Ruisdael. Now you can look up the image by the date it was created, and then click the Q number which will take you straight to Wikidata for that image and there you can add in the Wikipedia article name link yourself. While there, try clicking on the Resonator link in the left menu to see the information in a better format and feel free to update the English label or any other language label if you have other languages set in your preferences. I try to include the label used by museums if at all possible, even when this is just "Landscape", but I personally think it is more useful to use a label more like a Wikipedia article title (but avoid parentheses, since disambiguation is not a Wikidata thing). Jane (talk) 11:17, 22 February 2016 (UTC)

Whose
editHi Edwininlondon, thanks for all the corrections you've made to Borscht. I have a question about one of them, though. You've corrected "the Russian Navy borscht... whose defining characteristic is..." to "the defining characteristic of which is..." I'm not a native speaker of English, so I'd like to better understand the nature of the grammatical mistake I made here. I thought "whose" could refer to both personal and non-personal antecedents, being the possessive case of both "who" and "which". Is it not the case? — Kpalion(talk) 14:08, 28 April 2016 (UTC)
- I'm not a native speaker but I checked it with a native speaker who is particularly picky. It seems it is controversial, some say it is fine, others say it is not. Maybe best to avoid needless controversy by rewriting it. I'm not sure my attempt is successful. There may be better ways. By the way, thanks very much for bringing borscht to my attention. I had some just now. Delicious. The beetroot version. Edwininlondon (talk) 19:03, 28 April 2016 (UTC)
- Fair enough. With a little more research, I've found this dictionary usage note, which confirm the controversy.
- Anyway, I'm glad you liked the soup. It's quite rewarding to know that a food article you've written makes readers hungry. — Kpalion(talk) 07:41, 29 April 2016 (UTC)
Belgium national football team FAC2
editHi, the article Belgium national football team is under review as FAC again. At the first review you raised several issues that needed to be solved. It took some time to cope with these and other comments, yet I thank you for your critical input as it helped to get the article forward. You are warmly invited to have a second look now. Regards, Kareldorado (talk) 15:53, 5 October 2016 (UTC)
- Good to see you have not given up and improved it. I'm very busy with my own prep for a FAC now, but will try to find time to comment on yours. Edwininlondon (talk) 07:24, 6 October 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks in advance, and good luck with your own future FAC! The article on nominative determinism looks promising and well sourced. It is your decision, but I would recommend you to do serial nominations for B- , GA- and FA-status. While this is not compulsory, it assures you and the reviewers that the article is already at a very fair and a a totally decent level, respectively, before you take it to the next stage. Regards, Kareldorado (talk) 17:02, 6 October 2016 (UTC)
- It is just now that I realise you already brought Jacob van Ruisdael to FA. So, you can forget what I wrote above. :) Congrats! Kareldorado (talk) 17:08, 6 October 2016 (UTC)

Nominative determinism scheduled for TFA
editThis is to let you know that the nominative determinism article has been scheduled as today's featured article for 22 January 2017. - I'm going to move the TFA date for nominative determinism out to March or April. It's because of the reference to the urologists' names in the lead -- since I picked the article there have been news articles in the US relating to Donald Trump and an alleged episode of urination; the current date would have nominative determinism running only two days after Trump is to be inaugurated. Rather than have someone decide it's a deliberate choice to run the article then, I'm going to run something else and we'll pick another day for this article. Sorry about the delay, but it won't be long till it runs. Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 11:46, 17 January 2017 (UTC)
- @Mike Christie: Hi Mike, it seems to me there is now a continuous stream of more controversial Trump news, that it is safe to put this weakly Trump related article up as TFA. Agree? Edwininlondon (talk) 09:11, 12 February 2017 (UTC)
- Yes, we should be fine now. Crisco1492 will be scheduling TFAs for March, and I'll be scheduling April, so if Crisco1492 doesn't choose it for a day in March I'll pick it for April. I see it's been added here for April 1, which would be fine with me assuming there's nothing with a strong claim to that day as an anniversary. Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 12:22, 12 February 2017 (UTC)
- @Mike Christie: Hi Mike, do I need to do anything to get it scheduled? April 1 is fine by me.Edwininlondon (talk) 19:04, 19 March 2017 (UTC)
- No, nothing needs to be done -- I'll be scheduling in the next two or three days, and it will go in for April 1. Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 22:25, 19 March 2017 (UTC)

Outside the lab
editThanks for the nudge! I didn't realise the phrase had been used in a source, I think it mostly stood out as being oddly informal, and skimming the article there didn't seem to be a huge distinction between the insides and outsides of labs (Anseel and Duyck were presumably still reading through their large data set "in a lab"). Rereading the article, though, I can see the early stuff is certainly a lot more experiment-based than I thought it was. Feel free to change it back, or to use something else that puts the focus on attempts to find supporting evidence in real-world data. (I can't think of a good way to phrase it offhand.) --McGeddon (talk) 20:36, 16 February 2017 (UTC)

I'm starting a new project today; I don't have time to explain the whole project at the moment but I want to ask a few questions before this article goes live (in 3 hours) on the Main Page. Did you have any reaction (like, dislike, makes no difference) to the following changes I made?
- "The idea that people are drawn to professions that fit their name was suggested" -> "The hypothesis had been suggested"
- "Sigmund Freud, who studied pleasure and whose name means joy" -> "Sigmund Freud (German for "joy"), who studied pleasure"

GA
editHi again Edwininlondon. I hope all is well. I was just checking your page and noticed that you've done quite a few GA/FA reviews. I'm currently trying to get one of my older Politics nominations, Leslie Goonewardene, to GA status. I enjoyed working with you on Led By Donkeys and would really appreciate it if you'd be interested in reviewing this. If you're busy, that's totally fine!

Edward Thomas Daniell FAC
editHi Edwininlondon, I wondered if you might be able to take a look at my FAC article Edward Thomas Daniell, about an English artist whose work dates from the 1830s/1840s. I've been asked by a reviewer to dig out anyone likely to be able to comment on a Fine Arts article at this level, and i found you. Any comments would be welcome! Amitchell125 (talk) 22:04, 25 July 2020 (UTC)
- Well Amitchell125, I feel honoured to be asked, but frankly I can't claim much of expertise in the fine arts. I see your article is nearly there. If I were a native speaker I would help out with the prose, but I'm afraid I'm not. I'm sure others will help you with the last step towards FA. Good luck! Edwininlondon (talk) 10:25, 26 July 2020 (UTC)
Edwininlondon, just a reminder that you posted that you were going to close your review of this GA nomination on September 12, so whenever you edit on Wikipedia next, it would be great if you could do so then. Many thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 03:52, 20 September 2020 (UTC)

Featured list
editHi Edwininlondon, do you have any interest in creating a list similar to this featured list, List of international goals scored by Abby Wambach, for Miedema? Hmlarson (talk) 23:19, 1 December 2020 (UTC)
- @Hmlarson:I'm more into getting articles to be featured on the home page, but sure, this seems like a fine project to get sidetracked in. The hard work is done I think, building the table, right? So it just needs references for each goal and a few intro paragraphs, correct? Edwininlondon (talk) 08:20, 2 December 2020 (UTC)

- *@Hmlarson: I have made a start: List of international goals scored by Vivianne Miedema. I will add references. Will you link to it from her article page? Edwininlondon (talk) 22:32, 2 December 2020 (UTC)
- You're awesome. Yes, we could also start a navbox now that there are 3 articles. See Template:Lionel Messi series for example. Hmlarson (talk) 23:16, 2 December 2020 (UTC)
- Take a look at how it was done on the Alex Morgan article here: Alex_Morgan#International_summary - do you want to do similar for integrating this into her main article? See also Marta's article: Marta_(footballer)#International_career They're a bit different than Abby_Wambach#International_goals. Hmlarson (talk) 23:33, 2 December 2020 (UTC)

editOn 4 December 2020, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Arsenal Women 11–1 Bristol City Women, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Arsenal Women's 11–1 win over Bristol City at Meadow Park in 2019 was the widest margin of victory in the history of the FA Women's Super League? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Arsenal Women 11–1 Bristol City Women. editHi. There should be no problem. I checked back on that article and it was moved to draft because the person who originally created it hadn't included any references. Then he/she never bothered to work on it any more so it was deleted after being in draft for six months and never submitted for review. What you've done so far looks fine; you should just submit the draft for review and it will be moved to article space, so the red link will turn blue. Deb (talk) 09:27, 15 February 2021 (UTC)

Hello! I nominated Li Rui for FA status, but the review is now at risk of being archived because there have not been many comments. Would you be willing to jump in and share your thoughts on the article? You previously were a GA reviewer for one of my other two FAs (Mary Jane Richardson Jones), which I really appreciated. Thank you! —Ganesha811 (talk) 14:08, 24 March 2023 (UTC)
44th Chess Olympiad
editI don't want the FAC page to degenerate into some unnecessary back-and-forth, so I'll just clarify here in response to Special:Diff/1149906863: in case you were under some other impression, I am another reviewer, not the nominator. I would expect reviewers of my nominations to either quote an FA criterion/policy/guideline if challenged on a particular comment or drop the comment. As it's not my nomination, however, I won't press any further. — Bilorv (talk) 10:08, 15 April 2023 (UTC)

List of women's footballers with 100 or more international caps
editGreetings Edwininlondon,
When updating this list please remember that the sequence is Caps, Last Cap and First Cap.
Can you correct your latest updates?
Thank you.
Rklingmann (talk) 16:23, 1 March 2024 (UTC)
- @Rklingmann: Happy to make corrections, but sorry, I'm not sure what you want me to do. Are you talking about a specific row order, where if number of caps is equal there is a secondary sort order involving dates?Edwininlondon (talk) 18:40, 2 March 2024 (UTC)
- @Edwininlondon, Yes, that is what I'm talking about. ie. Beerensteyn should be at the bottom of the "102 Caps" group. Rklingmann (talk) 21:05, 2 March 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for fixing the Dutch entries. Rklingmann (talk) 23:07, 3 March 2024 (UTC)
