Article for 50 year old reputable Educational Institution declined by you because it sounds like an Advertisement

Hi Kashmorwiki. Recently I submitted an article for Wikipedia on the D.A.V. group of Schools in Chennai in India which happens to be one of Chennai’s most reputed group of schools that began way back in 1970. Currently there are over 16,000 students enrolled across 10 of their owned schools and I do feel they merit an article in Wikipedia. Before writing the concerned article, an in-depth research was done to analyze and understand how articles regarding educational institutions were written on Wikipedia with an aim to maintain a standard presentation format. Almost all such articles seem to adhere to the following style.

Introduction to the Educational Institution

History and Founders

Branches and other Academic Associations

Campus facilities/infrastructure

Notable Alumni

Other Initiatives

References

Based on this, the article for D.A.V Schools was written with nothing extra added to the structure of the article. All guidelines issued by Wikipedia regarding writing articles were followed strictly including citing reliable sources for almost every fact presented in the article. However the article submission was declined by you and Steve M on the grounds that it sounded like an advertisement. I have provided below a list of some links to articles available on Wikipedia on educational institutions. To make the listing global I have included links to both schools and colleges spread across three countries i.e. USA, England and India. A casual perusal of these links will allow one to conclude that my article is similar in structure to the others.

Therefore I am at a loss to understand why this article on D.A.V. was rejected. I request the concerned editors, you and Steve M to kindly share the specific lines / sections that are a concern in comparison to all the other Wikipedia articles on Education Institutions so that I can carry out the necessary changes and have the submission accepted. Thank you!

Hello Ragsram, I havent gone through any of the articles you showed here. An AFC reviewer's only duty is to check whether the draft they reviews is suitable for this encyclopedia. I said your draft read like an advertisement because I felt so. For example, see this sentence itself; The institution has built a reputation for academic excellence and over the years, students from the schools have been invited by the Prime Minister’s Office to witness the Republic Day parade based on their excellent performances in the 10th and 12th CBSE board exams. Avoid these type of phrases, rewrite your article in an encyclopedic tone and it may pass. Good luck. Regards. Kichu🐘 Need any help? 00:31, 19 April 2021 (UTC)
The wording quoted may not be optimal, but it most certainly does not make the article "read like an advertisement". No article would fail at AfD just because of such wording. I only arrived at this discussion because I came here to say the same thing about your rejection of Draft talk:Charlotte Tilbury Beauty Ltd. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 17:27, 19 April 2021 (UTC)
Hello Pigsonthewing, I didnt declined the draft just only because it contains that specific wording. It almost felt to me like an ad. You may read the full article and tell your opinion. The article is written from the viewpoint of the school. And I just gave an example with that wording. In the case of Draft talk:Charlotte Tilbury Beauty Ltd, I havent rejected the draft. I only declined it. Because this also is written like an advertisement from my viewpoint. If you have the AFC rights, you are free to accept the draft. By the way, thankyou for your suggestion and happy editing. Advices are always welcomed. Regards. Kichu🐘 Need any help? 18:22, 19 April 2021 (UTC)
Hi Ragsram! It would be good to familiarise yourself with WP:NSCHOOLS and WP:SCHOOLOUTCOMES since you are creating an article around an educational institution. Some of the private institutions-for profits institutions you linked would fail the criteria. For example, Sishya. It was tagged as having only primary sources and I now tagged it as reading like an advertisement. Maybe a thorough search might lead to better sources. At AFC, notability is the main criteria one looks for and the other criteria are to improve the encyclopedic value. Best! VV 04:39, 20 April 2021 (UTC)

Draft:Ramesh_Singh_Pal

Dear reviewer yesterday you have declined the wikipedia draft https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Ramesh_Singh_Pal with no comments simply putting that this submission's references do not qualifies for a Wikipedia article. I can give you the atleat 100 of examples of Wikipedia biography article where only external link has been provided they do not show significant coverage. You may ask to incorporate the more references but declining the page is totally disappointing. It shows that Wikipedia is not playing a fare game. Dr Ramesh singh Pal is a notable personality, you have to cheek the his contribution. Kindly reconsider it.

Hello Sanatan pragya. There are like millions of unreferenced/unreliably sourced articles present in the English wiki about different persons. If you think they are not notable, you may nominate it for deletion. As an AFC reviwer, I cannot accept an article about a non notable person because of this reason you said. For a person to have an article of their own, they should have significant coverage from multiple independent reliable sources. In the case of this person, he does not have. So I declined it. I hope you got the point. If you think wikipedia is not a fair game, kindly tell your concerns on the teahouse. Please let me know if you have any concerns. Regards. Pontian Eagles Draft

Hello Kichu,

I understand the need for meeting strict criteria in order to publish and spread information on Wiki. However, the page I have created has been rejected on account of it being semi-professional, when it remains 1 of 2 teams from it’s competition without a Wiki page.

I have reviewed the pages of not only those in the same competition, but of those higher on the national league pyramid. The content I have put together is correctly referenced and cites reputable publishers, both of which are absent for the pages of clubs playing in the same competition presently on Wikipedia.

I kindly ask for this page to be reconsidered for publishing. If there is anything I can do to help increase the chance of this, please let me know. Thank you. Kind regards, Pontos92

Hello Pontos92. Being semiprofessional is not the actual reason for your draft getting declined. For a football club to become notable, it must satisfy WP:NFOOTY. This club is actually not satisfying this. So in this case, it should meet the general GNG criteria for which need significant coverage frim multiple reliable sources. Please improve the draft by adding some good sources and your article will surely pass. Let me know if you have any more concerns. Regards. Kichu🐘 Need any help? 03:10, 21 April 2021 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Jagadish Debbarma

The article Jagadish Debbarma has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-notable politician. Already moved to draft space once but created in article space again, possibly to game the system.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Robert McClenon (talk) 00:39, 21 April 2021 (UTC)

Hello: The Wiki page has been rejected again on the grounds that only minor improvements have been made and that it is encyclopedic. I have some serious concerns about this process. First of all, there have been extensive changes from the last version to now. But, it still says that it is only minor. Secondly, I would be happy to bring to your attention 10s of other Wiki pages of scientists, whose stature is similar or lower, but with Wiki pages that fit the so-called encyclopedic description. In fact, my original submission was precisely modeled after two scientists' wiki page whose accomplishments are very similar. So, it begs the question. Is this an implicitly biased evaluation? This has taken too long. Please let me know of next steps in order for me publish the page ASAP. Thanks

Hello ShankarThai. Please sign your commets first. Im pinging Robert McClenon for giving you a better clarification. And I have s doubt myself to Robert. Why did I got the notification about this deletion discussio. Because this was created by somebody else.Kichu🐘 Need any help? 02:16, 21 April 2021 (UTC)

They may have confused us because they do not know how to post to talk pages with a heading. Robert McClenon (talk) 03:26, 21 April 2021 (UTC)

Recent Denial of Draft: Docusearch

Kashmorwiki,

You recently declined my draft submission: Docusearch (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Docusearch) with the comment:

"This submission appears to read more like an advertisement than an entry in an encyclopedia."

I spent many hours ensuring this article was written from a factual, neutral point of view. Would you kindly which article sentence or comment you consider to be biased or advertisement? I have tried to comply with all the conditions found on the AfC Help Desk.

Your further assistance would be appreciated.Wiki Arcanum (talk) 18:05, 16 April 2021 (UTC)

Hello Wiki Arcanum, when you submit a draft about a company, please do not write the draft from the viewpoint of a company. For example, the draft contains phrases like Docusearch continues to test the limits of federal privacy laws which might give a bad impression to the reviewers. But your draft is actually a promising one. It only needs some slight changes in its tone. Please remodify with little bit of changes and your article may get accepted. Please let me know if you have any concerns. Good luck with your work and regards. Kichu🐘 Need any help? 18:15, 16 April 2021 (UTC)

Discussion about deletion of page Deepak Rawat

About deletion process of page- Deepak Rawat --Why isn't there notability, If many official governmental websites references are available for that matter. Also a lot of reliable newspaper sources are available. There are lots if discussion about the person. Lots of notability, anyone could find, but why is it under deletion process. Can't you find reliable sources for it. Or you just want to marking assessment for my work on article and put it into dustbin (I mean under deletion process). Aj Ajay Mehta 007 (talk) 05:18, 22 April 2021 (UTC)

Aj Ajay Mehta 007, I havent said there is no coverage. What I said was there is no significant coverage. All the sources are giving some routine or incidential coverage, which is not sufficient to establish GNG. Please have a look at WP:GNG. You might wanna see Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Prashanth Nair (IAS). This person is alsoa civil servant from my state had more coverage than Deepak Rawat and still got deleted since he also failed GNG. He also didnt had any sigcov. I hope you understood. And by the way, I saw your userpage where you says that you behave politely to others. But your above comment felt somewhat not polite to me. Regards. Kichu🐘 Need any help? 05:26, 22 April 2021 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) I think another relevant AfD could be the recent P.K. Firos AfD discussion, which is much more in-depth. The background of the Nair article is difficult to separate from the outcome, as noted by the closer, and I plan to monitor the news for additional sources and to write a new article if there is more WP:BASIC support for Nair's notability. I don't mind that it wasn't draftified under those circumstances, but I think there was sufficient secondary coverage of Nair, and expect there will continue to be in the future. Cheers, Beccaynr (talk) 13:47, 22 April 2021 (UTC)

User:Kashmorwiki🐘 Dear Kichu,....^^^Significant coverage🙄😲.Point(1)--Isn't enough of these 30+ sources and references.Even pages like(I am giving one of example, there are many-many) Ashok Khemka has only 13 references.

Point(2)---Even now after your reply on that deletion page, I have added too many sources and references to that article that is directly turn around the topic of article i.e.Deepak Rawat. The whole news article of those newly added (even some of old) references are about this article i.e. Deepak Rawat. It is a significant coverage. As you mention GNG...What GNG says is that---{{{{"Significant coverage" addresses the topic directly and in detail, so that no original research is needed to extract the content. ##Here read this specifically---?But it does not need to be the main topic of the source material.?}}}}}}}

    1. This GNG also says that..it doesn't need to be the main topic of the article. Even though there are many references where the main topic of the news article is Deepak Rawat. There are many. Therefore it is a significant coverage of this article. Aj Ajay Mehta 007 (talk) 16:33, 22 April 2021 (UTC)
Aj Ajay Mehta 007, I havent gone through any of the sources you added now. At the time I put that comment, the subject did not had any sigcov. I was also not able to find anything useful. It seems that you have misunderstood about sigcov. Being mentioned in plenty of sources does not give any sigcov. This is called as REFBOMBING. You only need to show the best three best sources as per WP:THREE, to avoid deletion of the article. Hope you understood. Regards. Kichu🐘 Need any help? 16:57, 22 April 2021 (UTC)

Found a reputable source for Azra Public School

Hey. last time when I messaged you, you rejected my page Azra Public School, Hyderabad because of the lack of reliable sources. I did quite a bit of digging and found the December 22, 1996, Publication of Newstime (part of TOI Group) which talked about the school. (Image)
You see back in the 90s Newstime had a weekly section called the This School This Week where they talked about various schools and took interviews and stuff. Obviously, the editor included info about the school and I found that piece today.
Surely this is a reliable source innit?

@Kashmorwiki The problem with this Image (you asked Robert also) is simply that you are not able to verify which newspaper it is, in short if it is authentic or not - there is absolutely no source mentioned on this image. The author would need to provide a link to the archive to the Newspaper Article or at least as a minimum an image where the source is clearly recognisable. Please both of you check Wikipedia:Reliable sources. CommanderWaterford (talk) 21:33, 22 April 2021 (UTC)

@kashmorwiki I did mention the source plus you can see the source name and publishing date in the full image (Image). It is by Newstime: A popular magazine in India so pretty sure it's a reliable source of information. Rasalghul1711 (talk) 09:55, 23 April 2021 (UTC)
Rasalghul1711, Newstime is not listed in the perennial sources list. It may be reliable. But Im not sure about it. So my suggestion is that its better if you contact CommanderWaterford directly. Citations & References as to Wikipedia Policy in Vikas Rawat

I believe that all the citations & references added in the page are to the point and exactly verifiable. Though the citations are comparatively less but as in accordance to Wikipedia policy I believe that it is not mandatory to have many citations and references if there are few and authentic then they are worthy to be there. It is similar to many other articles on the Wikipedia space which have very less citations and references but they are still present there. Still, I would request you to assist me on how to add more as there are many references available but they don't exactly fit to the Wikipedia guidelines therefore, only those which abide by those guidelines are mentioned.

I am going to be off-wiki for a bit, so I am wondering if you can monitor this article and/or add more sources in the meantime. Thank you, Beccaynr (talk) 13:58, 24 April 2021 (UTC)

Hi Kichu, thank you for adding the template and the sources; I can't seem to figure out what happened to the source and information I had quickly added, but it is viewable here: diff if it seems helpful. Thanks again, Beccaynr (talk) 14:30, 24 April 2021 (UTC)
Hey Beccaynr, there are plenty of sources available about her from the reputed Malayalam newspapers or magazines. But the problem is, she recently participated in Big Boss season 3. So if you search her name in English, you will probably only get the sources about this show and her involvment in it. So I searched in Malayalam as മജ്സിയ ഭാനു by also adding the name of the different championships she won at last. Luckily, I got as many of them after pushing further through. Hello Latumoni20, the sources in your draft are not enough to establish GNG. They are not giving enough significant coverage to the person. Please see WP:GNG. And my duty is to check whether the drafts submitted are fit for moving into the mainspace. Like you said, plenty of articles about non notable persons exist in this encyclopedia and thats why we have a system called AFD. If you think any one the articles are not satisying GNG, you may nominate it for deletion. Thats the proper way. Just because some bad articles exist here does not mean that we should not accept anything like that. I hope you understood the point. Try to add some better sources into the draft and expand it little more. Please let me know if you have any concerns. Regards Kichu🐘 Need any help? 12:34, 25 April 2021 (UTC)
