The result of the discussion was: speedy rename WP:C2E. – Fayenatic London 22:07, 9 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: do not rename. MER-C 08:25, 17 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Similar to Category:Inter-county hurling competitions. The "Gaelic" is redundant in this case.
The Germans and the Aussies don't be playing inter-county competitions. If necessary a description could be placed at the top linking to Gaelic football. This would be more helpful to the reader or editor who comes across the page. 2001:BB6:A94:7658:6576:CC5E:AF6A:DC2D (talk) 09:04, 9 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. The sport is called Gaelic football. The players are called "Gaelic footballers". Every category for it includes the full name of the sport.
The bare word football is ambiguous. Our readers would not helped in any way by creating inconsistencies in the category tree and introducing avoidable ambiguity. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 09:54, 9 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: rename. MER-C 08:27, 17 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Per WP:CONCISE, no need to include the extra word 'federal'. Consistent with parent Category:People by state in Germany and States of Germany, both of which do not have the word federal in their titles. StonyBrook (talk) 11:08, 30 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: rename. MER-C 08:28, 17 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: I had originally proposed this as a speedy but missed a slightly more complex move history, so bringing it here for full discussion. The main article was moved to "New Left in China" in 2017 on the grounds of conforming to the "[political ideology] in [country]" standard and the category was itself moved consequent to this renaming. I'm proposing it as a CfD rather than just waiting for it to be stable because "New Left in China" is actually a potentially inappropriate name as I'll try to explain.
I moved the main article back to Chinese New Left today because "Chinese New Left" is a fixed phrase (2:1 split on Google Scholar) and not merely "the section/influence of the New Left in China". As the article explains, some members of the CNL explicitly dissociate themselves from the New Left as such, so "New Left in China" is a slightly problematic topic header: they're not the Chinese branch of the New Left in the way that, say, liberals in China are just Chinese people who subscribe to liberalism. "Chinese New Left" refers to a specific group, "New Left in China" can refer to either that group or Chinese people who follow the Western New Left, which has a separate history and etymology.
(Apologies for the slightly complicated rationale for a straightforward-looking move but hopefully it makes sense!) —Nizolan (talk · c.) 21:06, 30 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: rename. MER-C 08:28, 17 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: 5pb. changed their name to Mages in 2011, and their video game brand name "5pb. Games" is being phased out in favor of "Mages" for brand strength purposes. We should use the current name of the company for the category, matching the article's name. Alexandra IDVtalk 16:25, 29 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Muslim socialists and feminists

The result of the discussion was: rename Category:Islamic feminists to Category:Proponents of Islamic feminism and Category:Islamic socialists as nominated. MER-C 08:31, 17 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Propose renaming
Nominator's rationale: When the modifier Islamic is applied to a person (or group of people) it has a different connotation. In many cases, that does not apply to the people in these categories. For example Irshad Manji is particularly anti-Islamic fundamentalism. Putting her in Category:Islamic feminists is just not right. She is Muslim and a feminist but that does not mean we can call her an Islamic feminist because that term is just not idiomatic for her category of people. Here the distinction is about when referring to people. See existing examples: Category:Muslim reformers, Category:Muslim writers and Category:Muslim activists. --- Coffeeandcrumbs 17:41, 29 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: delete. MER-C 16:21, 29 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Category of only two pages. We have generally been much more restrictive about increasing categorization of disambiguation pages than we have with respect to articles, and a category with only two topics can serve little purpose in any context. bd2412 T 22:02, 28 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
