editFrom Proto-Hmong-Mien *mblet (“tongue”), likely borrowed from Proto-Sino-Tibetan *m/s/g-ljak (“to lick”). Cognate with Iu Mien mbietc. Compare Old Chinese 舌 (OC *ɦbljed, “tongue”).[1]
