Celtic F.C. task force

[edit]

Hello, you stated that you were a fan of Celtic F.C. in your WikiProject football members support section. I am hoping to start up a task force for Celtic at WikiProject Football.
If you are interested please reply here. Thanks. Adam4267 (talk) 12:28, 12 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Celtic task force

[edit]

Well I think the main thing we have to realise is that there is a huge amount of Celtic related topics on wikipedia and the majority of it needs a clean up. With just 2-3 editors I think we have to realise our limitations to be honest I wasn't going to start this task force with less than 5 people but User:Tatasport started it, so we will just have to get working and hopefully more people will join soon. I think we should start at core articles relating to the club i.e Celtic seasons, Celtic F.C., Celtic Park and Celtic F.C. Reserve and Youth squads. I would like to get a few of these to GA status. Pretty much every player from before 2005 has almost nothing on their Celtic career. I did Stiliyan Petrov a while ago and Henrik Larsson is good but thats pretty much it. I don't think it would be a good idea to start off doing players as there is just too many to get through and we would get bogged down. The first thing we have to do is decide on our template, which picture do you think is best. 1 2 3 4 Tatasport said 2, I think 1. Adam4267 (talk) 16:18, 16 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hooper's is quite good as well but I just don't think we should focus on players before we have information about the actual club done well. Wikipedia:WikiProject Football/Manchester United task force have a look through this they have done very well and Old Trafford and Manchester United F.C. are both FA I think the Celtic page is not too far away from GA so maybe we should start there. Adam4267 (talk) 16:37, 16 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Actually I think there is quite a lot to add to the history. The History of Celtic F.C. page is pretty poor and bascially needs a complete overhaul. The history section for some reason is layed out differently to almost every other club. But it should really be like this in order to comply with the standards set out by most other clubs pages
Early years (1888-1897)
Willie Maley years (1897-1945)
sub-section 6 in a row
Jimmy McGrory years (1945-1965)
Jock Stein and Bill McNeil (1965-1983)
sub-section Lisbon Lions
sub-section 9 in a row
David Hay and the return of McNeill(1983-1991)
Liam Brady and Lou Macari(1991-1994)
The Fergus McCann era(1994-1999)
The Dream Team and Martin O'Neill (1999-2005)
sub-section Bhoys from Seville
Gordon Strachan and Tony Mowbray (2005-2010)
Neil Lennon (2010-present)
Also there is nothing in the Celtic F.C page about the stadium, ownership or kit and colours. All these sections need to be added and the history section needs to be re-done. So basically in order to get the Celtic page to a decent standard we need to re-write the history page and the Celtic park page. Adam4267 (talk) 17:15, 16 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Some of the stuff is good but it is very poorly sourced and some of the more recent stuff reads more like the season overviews have been merged rather than being wtirren in a historical fashion. Please go ahead with updating/referencing/sourcing the history page. Adam4267 (talk) 19:54, 16 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It definitely happened [5] maybe I will try and find a better source later. Try a section after Wille Maley called Celtic and the World Wars which can encompass the players who fought during WWI and Jimmy McStay's management during WW2 (although there was no competitive league) as well as the VE cup. Adam4267 (talk) 20:22, 16 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

McCann left before Barnes was appointed, He bought the club then quickly fired Macari then Burns was there for three years, then Venglos and Jansen one year each. I think it should be okay to just have each The McCann era as the title then no subsections for managers. Adam4267 (talk) 20:32, 16 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

"The Dream Team" is Dalglish and Barnes I think it was Daslglish himself who at the start of the season called themselves that or possibly a board member. Obviously it didn't end well but Barnes was the first manager after McCann left. Adam4267 (talk) 20:49, 16 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Its good the only changes I would make are putting Jansen and Venglos under the McCann era. Maybe Celtic and the wars should have a heading of its own? Adam4267 (talk) 20:53, 16 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Ok I am pleased with the new layout, good job, but the prose is still on the whole poor and very badly referenced. Also the Neil Lennon section is not written in historical fashion. I think the sub sections were a bad idea and I'll remove them. We also have a new member Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Football#Celtic_F.C_task_force. Adam4267 (talk) 21:14, 16 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I already moved it. Don't worry its the same writing so it won't matter. In fact there are references from the 90's as well google has lots of old papers stored. Just search in news and archive and you can see photos of old papers, some of the websites also have archives as well. Adam4267 (talk) 21:36, 16 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Our newset member User:WilliamF1two said he liked image 1. I am going to press ahead in getting the template made with that image, unless you have any massive objection to that picture. We can have another vote on it later if more members join as the picture can be changed. Thanks. Adam4267 (talk) 22:32, 16 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, I made some updates to the task force main page as well. Adding a projects list. Adam4267 (talk) 22:44, 16 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

good idea, feel free to make changes yourself. Adam4267 (talk) 22:58, 16 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Here is the link to the template [6] I know its small but they all are quite small and people will see it if they click on the image. The page is protected so we just have to wait for an admin to add it and then we are ready to start. Adam4267 (talk) 23:13, 16 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Wow that is very well referenced I think you added more than were on the page before but I don't see why you have multi-referenced so much I think one is enough for most things. I think the Neil Lennon section still needs a bit of a re-write, saying how much he changed the squad, the off-field stuff that happened last year and so-on, it needs to be more historical and more of a summary. You might as well make changes straight onto the real page so your contributuions can be seen in the page history. Keep up the good work. Adam4267 (talk) 17:04, 17 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yeh I see your point about multi-referencing, I still think the prose in the Lennon section is a bit too current, I will try and change it a bit unless you want to do it. Adam4267 (talk) 18:18, 17 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Ok both pages are now the same we can continue to make changes at your sandbox page and then move each section over once it is complete. Adam4267 (talk) 18:58, 17 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
You go ahead with Strachan, But I think either Mowbray should be put into the Lennon section, or Lennon should be put into the Strachan and Mowbray section. Also Mowbray needs a tidy up, there is too much about Europe and not enough about transfers/poor performances so that needs to be changed a bit. That season overall has 5 fairly big paragraphs so definitely a trim required there. I'm still going to make some more changes to the Lennon section it needs a bit of a tidy and some more information. Adam4267 (talk) 19:41, 17 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I think your right about the Europe page but I think our first priority should be updating the Celtic page hopefully to G.A. status. After that Celtic Park and Celtic in Europe then the Celtic seasons articles. I think it's best to do things like this first, information about the club, then try to look at players. I will be away from Sunday to Sunday next week and I'm hoping the history page will just about be done by then. If not I'm sure you will be able to finish it off. Adam4267 (talk) 19:29, 20 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Remember don't spend too much time doing sources, the writing is more important. Also you may be able to copy sources from season articles or the Celtic page. Adam4267 (talk) 19:36, 20 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject Eurovision: This is a reminder to all members of Project Eurovision, that there is still an ongoing RfC discussion taking place at the project talk page. It is vital that everyone participates in this discussion, as it concerns the future manual of style and article layout in regards to Eurovision Song Contest by Year and Junior Eurovision Song Contest by Year articles. This is your ideal opportunity to contribute suggestions and ideas on a major issue, which will reflect on the way these articles will be written in future. Thank You! Message from the Editorial Team

Bienvenue! Willkommen! Welcome!

Please be warm-hearted in encouraging everyone to do their best to contribute to all Eurovision-related Wikipedia articles, and welcome our new members to the project. It is easy for editors to get into conflict with each other, and things can get very nasty on the most trivial of issues, whether that be on the language of songs, the names of certain countries, or how we deal with incidents at the contest. In such circumstances it is worth remembering one thing: we are all here to build an encyclopedia, and the contribution of Eurovision to human knowledge can only be given justice if we work together and make articles, not drama!

 • If you would like something to appear in the August 2012 Edition of the newsletter, then please inform us at the Project Newsdesk.
 • If there is an article you think we should have? Request it here.

Happy editing!

Project News
 • When creating new articles about a performer or song, please remember to add sources either from Eurovision.tv, ESCToday or other reliable sources. If you're not sure a source is reliable enough, then ask the project for an opinion.
 • Remember to only add content to articles that is relevant to the article's main subject. Anything not in relation to the article may be questioned and/or subject to redirection to an article that would benefit it's inclusion. Again if in doubt, ask on the article or project talk pages for an opinion - communication is an important tool.
 • On the subject of communication, please make use of the article talk pages. They are a vital tool in conducting consensus talks of additions of proposed new sections and/or removal of unnecessary section. If you don't use these pages to put across your views, then you only have yourself to blame if actions are taken that you disagree with and you end up wandering into edit warring territory.
 • The 2012 season of Eurovision has drawn to a close, and we now start preparations for the 2013 edition. While things will be slow to start of with, now is the ideal opportunity to do a clean-up exercise across articles relating to the project. There's over 4,500 articles associated with the project. If you happen to see a Eurovision related article without the EurovisionNotice template on the article's talk page, please add it. You can also read Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team/Assessment if you would like to help assess or reassess articles in our project if you see that they have outgrown their current assessment. There is currently one unassessed article.
 • And finally... a massive thank you to all members of the project for your constant hard work on collaborating and contributing to Eurovision related articles. Keep up the good work team!

Project Alerts
Headlines
Project Gossip
 • The RfC discussion in regards to article layout, is still taking place on the project talk page. Could all members please ensure that they participate in the discussion so that we can all agree on important article structure issues. If you don't take part, then you only have yourselves to blame if a consensus is passed that you disagree with.

WikiProject Eurovision: Recent changes

[edit]

Hello,

Please note that there have been some changes to operations surrounding Eurovision articles, these being that:

 • Template names have now been modernised and/or megred into super-templates, for example Countries in the Eurovision Song Contest has now been merged into Template:Eurovision Song Contest making it even easier to find everything under one template. If you are planning to create a new template, please keep the standardised titles in mind. Other templates have been modernised and a full list of them can be found here.
 • The Eurovision Song Contest and Junior Eurovision Song Contest articles have now been standardised to keep a consitancy throughout the project and to the genral reader too. Skeleton article drafts can be found for Eurovision Song Contest by Year and Junior Eurovision Song Contest by Year.

If you have any questions, please ask at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Eurovision.

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
