MacUser (US edition) SUGGESTION

[edit]

Hi -- My name is Neil Shapiro and I was the Founding Editor in Chief of MacUser Magaine. In 1983, I was approached by Publisher Felix Dennis to become Editor and to editorially design the magazine as I had editorial experience (the Electronics Editor of Popular Mechanics Magazine) as well as being very well-known to Macintosh owners and to Apple Inc. (as the Chief Sysop of the MAUG Macintosh and Apple II Forums on CompuServe). I would love to see this article expanded to include how the magazine went through its startup phase and early staffing there. I setup the general editorial tone of the magazine and guided it through its first year. I left the magazine in order to become the world's first full-time sysop (where I expanded the MAUG group to a constellation of more than 20 Forums which for years was the biggest online area ever formed) but I remained on MacUser's staff with a monthly column for a few years. I would love to correspond with someone as to how this article could be expanded and how the history and spirit of MacUser might be better represented as well as its impact on the Mac Community and the future of Apple Inc. I have many anecdotes involving all sorts of Mac celebrities-of-the-time. I'd write more here but have no idea if anyone is actually going to see this or have any interest. If you would like to contact me I am at neil@bookhobby.com. Or you can reach me through my Wiki account. Thanks for any consideration.
