Fair use rationale for Image:SierraTradingPost logo.gif
[edit]Image:SierraTradingPost logo.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Religious background?
[edit]I came to the site to research the religious history of this company, which was quite prominent (presumably until the TJX acquisition); it seems like this is a very important part of their story, and should have some representation here. I'm not sure where to find a record of this -- the current version has been toned back from being specifically religious, and is a subtle link from their "about us" page (and this is a quote--you can see that these have been changed to be more palateable, but without fixing the grammar!): "We Believe"
Every day, in all that we do, we vow:
We Believe our customers must be given the best possible service. We Believe we must keep our operating costs as low as possible to keep your savings as high as possible. We Believe that we must treat others as we would want to be treated ourselves." (http://www.sierratradingpost.com/lp2/we-believe/)
But it used to be a much more prominent “We Believe” tab on the bottom-right of their homepage (and I think they had a biblical passage from John in the checkout). That tab listed their mission statement as follows: "Sierra Trading Post wants to be your first choice for outdoor clothing and equipment. In order to be the best, we follow three simple “We Believe” statements. 1. That our customers must be given the best possible service. 2. That we must keep our operating costs as low as possible- to keep your savings as high as possible. 3. That our business ethics must be consistent with the faith of the owners in Jesus Christ and His teachings.
We invite you to write our founder and president, Keith Richardson, if what we do does not match what we believe... We Will Make It Right!"
I don't know more than that, so I can't really fill in a more encyclopedic history of this, but hopefully somebody can. The company itself is providing a timeline that is far from satisfying: http://www.sierratradingpost.com/lp2/our-story/ Kvcad (talk) 00:27, 30 January 2015 (UTC)

Requested move 23 January 2019
[edit]- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the move request was: not moved to the proposed titles at this time, per the discussion below. Sierra (retailer) can be reconsidered at some point if supported by evidence in accordance with WP:COMMONNAME and WP:NAMECHANGES. Dekimasuよ! 01:27, 4 February 2019 (UTC)
– We have officially changed our name from Sierra Trading Post to Sierra. You'll see that the website is now http://www.sierra.com and no longer http://www.sierratradingpost.com, which redirects to http://www.sierra.com Dgarsh (talk) 15:53, 23 January 2019 (UTC)--Relisted. –Ammarpad (talk) 16:18, 30 January 2019 (UTC)
- Sierra is "taken" by the many more notable Sierras & mountains called that. Sierra (company) also has competitors. Would Sierra (outdoors retailer) work? Also, do you have any secondary sources on the name change? e.g. did any news stories pay attention or care, and if so, how do they refer to the company? SnowFire (talk) 20:04, 23 January 2019 (UTC)
- I have changed this to a multi-move but I can't see the DAB being moved. Crouch, Swale (talk) 21:56, 31 January 2019 (UTC)
- Support Sierra (retailer) as the simplest option satisfying WP:PRECISE. feminist (talk) 16:31, 29 January 2019 (UTC)
- Oppose. Obviously this isn’t the primary topic for “Sierra” so it can’t be moved there. It should be kept at the current name instead of one with parenthetical disambiguation per WP:NATURAL. There is also no proof Sierra is the common name for the store at this point. Calidum 17:17, 30 January 2019 (UTC)
- Oppose moving to primary topic views [[1]] show the supercomputer gets a comparable number of views (especially if you look back) and there are lots more entries on the DAB, some of which although they aren't directly called this, probably have more long-term significance. No comment on moving to Sierra (retailer). Crouch, Swale (talk) 17:21, 30 January 2019 (UTC)
- Oppose per WP:NAMECHANGES. I can't find any online RS that refers to this entity other than as "Sierra Trading Post" or "Sierra Trading". 94.21.204.175 (talk) 09:33, 31 January 2019 (UTC)
- Oppose - Only 2 days ago was the company still referred to as "Sierra Trading Post"[2], I also oppose the (retailer) name as per NAMECHANGES, IMHO this RM is way too soon. –Davey2010Talk 11:03, 31 January 2019 (UTC)
- Oppose. (1) The main meaning of sierra is 'mountain'. (2) Sierra Entertainment is commonly known as Sierra, and gets more page views than Sierra Trading Post. Sierra should stay as a DAB page. Narky Blert (talk) 12:53, 3 February 2019 (UTC)

Sierra Trading Post → Sierra (retailer) – As previously discussed, the outdoor retailer Sierra Trading Post has officially changed their name to Sierra. The website URL has changed from www.sierratradingpost.com to www.sierra.com and the company is in the process of updating store signage for their retail locations. Understandably, Sierra is a popular name, so could the name be changed to Sierra (Retailer) as proposed by another user in the group. It's clearly stated in the first line of the article that Sierra (formerly Sierra Trading Post) is the retailer, so it would be great if the title of the article can change to remove "Trading Post" and any confusion. Sierra (Retailer) seems to be the best option available. Thank you. Dgarsh (talk) 17:54, 4 February 2019 (UTC)
- Comment It should be Sierra (retailer) (lower case "r" for retailer) is a move takes place. I have no strong opinion but the website's title in Google uses the current name (though just "Sierra" comes up on a search for "Sierra retail"), as do some other sources so WP:NATURAL/WP:COMMONNAME might apply. Crouch, Swale (talk) 17:57, 4 February 2019 (UTC)
- Procedural comment. I understand from the template at the top of the page that altering this title may be a task that has been delegated to you, but this is not the way names are changed on Wikipedia. As I noted in the previous close, please supply evidence in accordance with Wikipedia naming policy, WP:COMMONNAME and WP:NAMECHANGES, if you would like the title to be altered. You have not provided evidence that secondary sources use the title you've requested, and Wikipedia does not necessarily use official names per WP:OFFICIAL. Dekimasuよ! 18:24, 4 February 2019 (UTC)
- Comment. Would it be useful to create Sierra (retailer) as a redirect? There is no "confusion" about what Sierra Trading Post refers to. 94.21.238.64 (talk) 06:08, 5 February 2019 (UTC)
- Yes that would be useful. Crouch, Swale (talk) 10:24, 5 February 2019 (UTC)
- Oppose per above. Still no reason to believe Sierra is the WP:COMMONNAME, and WP:NATURAL would apply regardless. Calidum 01:01, 11 February 2019 (UTC)
- Opppose. as above. Sierra Trading Post is still the WP:COMMONNAME this week, and a redirect is in place. 188.143.76.152 (talk) 04:42, 11 February 2019 (UTC)
- Oppose. We do need to disambiguate from Sierra (currently a large DAB), and given that the current name remains reasonably common and highly recognisable, we don't even need to ask what the more common name is. The existing natural disambiguation is perfect. (And of course the change of official name counts for very little.) Andrewa (talk) 07:15, 12 February 2019 (UTC)
