"Other notable individuals" vs. "Others"
[edit]Okay, what is the purpose of the separation here? Are we saying that the "others" are not notable (in which case they shouldn't have been in the listing at all much less have their own Wikipedia pages) or are we trying to partition lesser combatants from noncombatants (in which case "Other notable individuals" is a very misleading term).
I vote we either put them all together under the ONI heading or rename them as "Other notable samurai" (combatants, whatever) and "Other notables". Either way, this needs to be fixed.--ip.address.conflict (talk) 20:53, 6 September 2008 (UTC)
- I agree that the distinction is unclear. Fg2 (talk) 22:20, 6 September 2008 (UTC)
Need for criteria for inclusion
[edit]We should have criteria for inclusion. What makes one person eligible for the list, while the 30 million others living during the period are not on the list? Why does the template include 20 daimyo and exclude the rest? Why are this princess, priest, swordsman in the template while hundreds of princesses, thousands of priests, and millions of swordsmen are not? Lists (which are single articles) are supposed to have criteria for inclusion, and templates, which appear in dozens of articles, should too. Fg2 (talk) 22:20, 6 September 2008 (UTC)
- I concur. This should be addressed and soon. It could very well be that the template needs to be completely redone.--ip.address.conflict (talk) 16:01, 7 September 2008 (UTC)
- This is still very much an issue. - Neptuunium (talk) 09:15, 14 September 2017 (UTC)
Suggestions for additional names / categories
[edit]I examined the edit made by 42.224.46.103(talk) at 10:13, 4 July 2012.(+507) which recategorized "others" specifically into "women" "emperors" "ninjas" "swordsmen" (As per query at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Japan#Template:People of the Sengoku period/future archive)
These recategorizations are an improvement over previous, but IMO the list still may need further balancing, by adding perhaps the following:
- Someone from the early Sengoku period (currently looks like there's zero). I'm not really attuned to that part of history, but e.g. someone from the Hatakeyama clan.
- Some Ikkō-ikki figure like Kennyo
- Art figures such as Sen no Rikyū, Furuta Oribe, Honami Kōetsu who also had intimate dealings with the samurai world. In the current list the only art type is the dancer Izumo no Okuni.
- Might want to add gaijin like Francis Xavier or Miura Anjin (William Adams). Also Hasekura Tsunenaga notable for traveling to Rome.
There is no equivalent palette type Sengoku personage namelist template in Japanese, but you can always check ja:Category:戦国時代の人物 (日本).

I want to add to Kunoichi Chiyome Mochizuki, she was an important character for the Takeda clan in the sengoku period.
- Not done: it's not clear what changes you want to be made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format and provide a reliable source if appropriate. OhKayeSierra (talk) 08:31, 23 April 2018 (UTC)
