Hi. Welcome to my user page.
I work as a Graphic Designer with specific qualifications in Typography, and experience in magazine design and production. I am British but have lived in India, Singapore and have both lived and worked in Germany and Scandinavia. I am bilingual.
I regard e-prime as a great idea and excellent way to communicate more accurately (and for distinguishing between opinions and facts) but I do find applying it tiresome.
The older I get, the more concerned I become about the need in this age of mass-communication for the preservation of an accurate, unbiased source of neutral, factual information. In this endeavour I'm a great enthusiast of fair, open and honest communication/dialogue.
As George Orwell warned: "Who controls the present controls the past. Who controls the past controls the future."
Other favourite quotes:
"Human beings, vegetables, or cosmic dust; we all dance to a mysterious tune intoned in the distance by an invisible player." - Albert Einstein
"The doorstep to the temple of wisdom is awareness of our own ignorance" --Benjamin Franklin
"Ring the bell that still can ring. Forget your perfect offering. There is a crack in everything. That is how the light gets in." -- Leonard Cohen
Here's some more quotes conveying a similar idea, which for me point to the main problem with communicating and preserving information accurately:
"The greatest obstacle to discovery is not ignorance it is the illusion of knowledge." -- Daniel J Boorstin
"To be ignorant of one's ignorance is the malady of the ignorant" -- Amos Bronson Alcott
“There is a principle which is a bar against all information, which is proof against all argument, and which cannot fail to keep a man in everlasting ignorance. This principle is, contempt prior to examination.” -- Rev. William H. Poole
"...I have a cunning plan, m'Lord." -- Baldrick
