Welcome, edit summaries

[edit]

Information icon Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia.

When editing Wikipedia, there is a field labeled "Edit summary" below the main edit box. It looks like this:

Edit summary (Briefly describe your changes)

I noticed your recent edit to Louis VII of France does not have an edit summary. Please be sure to provide a summary of every edit you make, even if you write only the briefest of summaries. The summaries are very helpful to people browsing an article's history.

Edit summary content is visible in:

Please use the edit summary to explain your reasoning for the edit, or a summary of what the edit changes. You can give yourself a reminder to add an edit summary by setting Preferences → Editing → Tick Prompt me when entering a blank edit summary. Thanks! Eric talk 16:20, 2 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

John, Duke of Valencia de Campos

[edit]

Hi, I noticed that you added a paragraph in the article on John, Duke of Valencia de Campos which you translated from the Spanish version of wikipedia. For license purposes, when doing so, you must indicate in the edit summary that you are translating from another wiki. --Maragm (talk) 07:15, 3 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Leonor Teles

[edit]

I noticed that in this edit you removed two references (why?) and that you changed her name. References must no be removed and, on her name, see article discussion page. Thanks, Maragm (talk) 08:09, 5 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I apologize for the name, but I did not remove any references. I just put them besides her death date in the infobox, to clean up the main text. 6071m (talk) 14:35, 5 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
There's no need to clean up the main text. I think the refs are better in the text since not everyone will read the infobox which often contains erroneous info.Maragm (talk) 11:25, 6 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Hello- I hope you don't mind me throwing in my two cents here. I happened to notice these edits and then this discussion, which prompted me to compare the two versions. I can see merits to both of your views, but I must say I agree it is less distracting to have the footnotes in the infobox, at least in a case of sourcing a date in the middle of the intro sentence. I wonder if this might have been discussed somewhere before. It might be worth bringing up at Help_talk:Footnotes. Eric talk 14:44, 6 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Eric, thanks for your input. I will bring it up in the help-talk page as you suggested. --Maragm (talk) 17:51, 6 September 2018 (UTC) ps...I brought it up as suggested. Maragm (talk) 18:16, 6 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
