Re: Question

[edit]

(copied over from my talk page:) Thanks for this. Why not? It could be useful from time to time. --jbmurray (talk|contribs) 21:55, 17 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Rollback granted. :) For additional information on rollback, you may wish to review Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback. Good luck. Acalamari 21:57, 17 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Acalamari, I remember you when someone thought Acalamari was a girl, ha. Thanks for your kind offer. As Jbmurray, it would be useful. I did go to the links and practice rollback page, but though it specified, there was no rollback button next to the undo (??) so I played with the undo feature instead. Btw I sent Cardinal Raven to you for admin help, best - Julia Rossi (talk) 22:49, 17 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Rollback granted. :) Out of curiosity, where was the place you saw that someone thought I was female? The only two recent places I can think of were Friday's talk page and my request for bureaucratship from over a month ago. Anyway, good luck with rollback: you'll be able to use it on the practice page now. :) Just remember it's only for vandalism-reversion. Best wishes. Acalamari 22:55, 17 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you A. Yes, Friday's answer about the squid made me laugh. Oh I see, the prac button appears with ... ah. Btw Larrymac caught the prob for CR, see Friday's talk page (where I went to check my recall about the other thing). There's a circle happening here, have the best day,  : ) Julia Rossi (talk) 23:05, 17 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You're very welcome. :) I saw the post on Friday's talk page regarding the block of that imposter as well; in fact, I saw it when looking for the post I left there. :) Best wishes. Acalamari 23:09, 17 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Question/Help

[edit]

Somehow I seem to have been drawn into an old fashioned mudslinging and I could use a little help. It seems that IP 64.107.1.166 and user Mkil have some history that they need to work out. If you look at the bottom of my talk page youll see more. After reviewing the edits from both it appears that this IP has made some good faith edits (and some bad ones too) and MKil seems to block their every move good or bad. I asked the Anon IP to create an account (could only do so on my talk page so hopefully they read it) but I doubt they will. Anyway since I do not have the tools nor am likely to be getting them anytime soon I wanted to throw this your way. Let me know if you need me to do anything.--Kumioko (talk) 23:12, 17 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The tools aren't actually needed for this: the thing to do would be to ask Mkil why he reverts the user's edits. However, looking at this and this, it seems that the IP Mkil is reverting is a sockpuppet of someone. Acalamari 23:26, 17 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks!

Pathetic attempt

[edit]

If you're trolling a user, I think your first port of call would be to troll your brother and ex-boyfriend, but... yikes, she never knew Keilana. Sceptre (talk) 21:36, 18 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, when I saw the name show up in my watchlist, I had a feeling it was a troll (similar to Sergeant Snopake). NHRHS2010 has his own Wiki, and Alison and Tiptoety are on that Wiki: I think this vandal was blocked there and came here. No idea why they went after Keilana, though. Acalamari 21:39, 18 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I only caught the troll because I have Spring's talk on watch. Sceptre (talk) 21:46, 18 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Heh, I saw it from Alison's talk page, which is often a troll magnet. Acalamari 21:49, 18 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Should this be deleted? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:The_SRS/Secret_Page --What does this button do? (talk) 04:26, 20 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

And why delete? Its SRS' secret page. I found it because of the link. Haha. --Efe (talk) 08:36, 20 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The page doesn't fall under any of the speedy deletion criteria, so it can't be deleted under them. You'd have to take to the Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion. Acalamari 16:25, 20 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I saw all of your effort on that article and I am impressed, the effort is amazing. Great job keep it up. Most of the editors on Pop singer attributed pages are usually vandalising them. Anyway I would really like to work on more articles that need verification or prose of timeline. And I am surprised that you created the Vanessa Hudgens page, who is on The Suite Life. Teen idols like Brenda Song are having many vandalism attacks and are now protected only for admins to edit. I would really like to edit more vandalised pages on Wikipedia. Thank you for your time. --IntoCreativeJan (talk) 1:22, 20 April 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the compliments, but while I've done a lot of work to Beyoncé Knowles‎, the person who's done the most work to the article recently is a user called Efe. Also, I didn't create the Vanessa Hudgens page: I created her template: Template:Vanessa Hudgens, which is used for navigating to articles about her. :) You are right that a lot of vandalism is done to pop singer articles; a lot are semi-protected. Brenda Song, however, is protected due to a dispute rather than vandalism. Acalamari 16:36, 20 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well...

[edit]

With an alternate account like "Bellatrix Kerrigan," who wouldn't? I confess I didn't pay too much attention to the opening statements in your RFAs, mostly because I was too busy rushing to support you. bibliomaniac15 20:43, 20 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, that explains it, though even before the alternate account was created, some people thought I was female. :) I see it as a compliment. :) I like the "rushing to support" as well. :) Acalamari 20:46, 20 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Administrator Assistance Needed

[edit]

I would like to report a concern regarding the article on Oklahoma Governor David Hall. User:John celona has twice re-added the article to Category:American criminals without discussing the issue on the article's Talk page, first after User:J.delanoy removed the category questioning its appropriateneness, and again after his first addition was reverted. I have discussed this matter with User:J.delanoy, and he and I both believe that administrator intervention is needed to resolve this matter. --TommyBoy (talk) 14:02, 22 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure why administrator intervention is needed, as administrator tools won't help anything at this time: the page doesn't need protection and no blocks are necessary either; plus, there is a discussion going on here regarding the category. This looks more like something that should go to dispute resolution. Acalamari 16:07, 22 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
For the record, the David Hall article has been in the category since August 2006, placed there by another user. I have merely reverted the removal of this page from the category while the RFC is pending. John celona (talk) 17:28, 22 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I think you should have used better edit summaries to explain your actions then. Use of the undo feature like this without explaining what you're doing isn't helpful: it would have been better to have replaced the "undid revision xyz by (username)" with a more descriptive summary. Acalamari 17:32, 22 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Following up on my earlier comments, the situation has escalated to the point of User:John celona and User:Jkp212 engaging in an argument with each other on my UserTalk page relating to the Billy Cannon article, which I have no connection to. I have posted notes on both of their UserTalk pages asking them to please refrain from arguing with each other on my UserTalk page, and I was wondering if any further action should be taken to resolve this matter. --TommyBoy (talk) 23:23, 22 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
If people are discussing a dispute on your talk page that you have no connection with, you are perfectly entitled to remove those comments. Acalamari 01:58, 23 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Protection of Earth day

Did you award User:Willisis2 an anti-vandalism barnstar on April 17th? I can find no record that you did but that user has placed one on his user page with your tag. A-Kartoffel (talk) 00:38, 28 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not totally sure what you want removing from the talk page, and anyway, we don't normally remove talk page comments. It would actually be more appropriate for you to remove your own comments rather than have another user do it. Acalamari 21:35, 29 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Rollback request

[edit]

Aloha Acalamari. I was wondering if you would grant User:Fogster rollback. I've noticed he or she does a good bit of vandalism reversion, and the tool would be helpful in making sure all the versions containing vandalism are reverted. I am going to make a note of this (perhaps unconventional) request on Fogster's talk page. Mahalo nui loa. --Ali'i 17:19, 28 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I can grant Fogster rollback if they want it. They are indeed a good vandal-fighter. Acalamari 19:04, 28 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Not sure of the process, but I certainly accept Ali'i's very kind (and very Hawaiian) "nomination." I am familiar with its use, and have made my classic beginner mistakes (inattentively rolling back much more than I wanted to) with rollback on an off-site Wiki I run, so they wouldn't happen here. ;) Fogster (talk) 19:14, 28 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Rollback granted. :) For the record, you can either request rollback at Wikipedia:Requests for rollback or at any administrator's talk page, but I see nothing wrong with one editor suggesting giving rollback to another editor, providing that the "candidate" would make good use of the tool. I guess that, since you're already familiar with rollback, you won't need to visit Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback for additional information and practice. :) Good luck. Acalamari 19:19, 28 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! (And I ran through the trial anyway -- can't hurt to be sure!) Now I'm eagerly awaiting the next multi-edit vandal... Fogster (talk) 19:26, 28 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Rollback Request

[edit]

Hello Acalamari. I am interested in having the ability to use the rollback feature and I understand that its use is for clear vandalism. I would appreciate if you would review my contributions and reply with a decision of whether or not you are willing to grant me the privilege. Thanking you in advance. — Dorvaq (talk) 16:04, 2 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have granted you rollback in accordance with your request. I found no problem with your recent reverts, and as long as you understand that rollback is only to be used for reverting vandalism, and not to revert good-faith edits or to revert war, you'll be fine. For practice, you may want to see Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback. Good luck. Acalamari 16:12, 2 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Question

[edit]

Copyedit from my "talk" page: Hello Bzuk, I was wondering, would you like rollback rights granted to your account? You do quite a bit of vandal-reverting, and rollback would make that easier for you. Just remember that rollback should only be used to revert obvious vandalism, and should not be used to revert good-faith edits or to revert-war. Acalamari 18:36, 2 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, I would certainly appreciate a tool that would assist in dealing with vandalism as sometimes I do miss the subtle or "sneaky" submissions that can be inserted quite innocuously and be missed. FWiW, please advise how to go about the process of acquiring "rollback" rights. I tend to edit "without a net" and confess that I do not have a good background about the "black arts" of this WickyWacky world. Bzuk (talk) 18:46, 2 May 2008 (UTC).[reply]
I've granted your account rollback, as administrators have the ability to grant rollback. The other way of obtaining rollback would be to file a request at Wikipedia:Requests for rollback, or just ask any admin for it. You may wish to see Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback for practice. Good luck. Acalamari 18:50, 2 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, and coincidentally, just after practising, I came across my first vandal with multiple edits and the rollback worked like a charm. I will, however, be very judicious in using it because I could eliminate good faith edits if I wasn't careful. FWiW, thanks again. Bzuk (talk) 19:08, 2 May 2008 (UTC).[reply]
You're welcome; it's very useful with reverting vandalism, and if you're careful with the tool, you'll have no problems. Best wishes. Acalamari 19:10, 2 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Jeffq, I noticed you revert vandalism occasionally. Would you like me to grant your account rollback rights to help you revert vandalism more easily? Acalamari 21:13, 2 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, thank you. I would appreciate that. I try to be very careful about distinguishing between "vandalism" and anything that appears to be at least arguably good-faith, so I would plan to use it much as I do as a Wikiquote admin — sparingly and only for edits that are obviously malicious or pranks. ~ Jeff Q (talk) 21:20, 2 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

New List

[edit]

Myself and several other editors have been compiling a list of very active editors who would likely be available to help new editors in the event they have questions or concerns. As the list grew and the table became more detailed, it was determined that the best way to complete the table was to ask each potential candidate to fill in their own information, if they so desire. This list is sorted geographically in order to provide a better estimate as to whether the listed editor is likely to be active.

If you consider yourself a very active Wikipedian who is willing to help newcomers, please either complete your information in the table or add your entry. If you do not want to be on the list, either remove your name or just disregard this message and your entry will be removed within 48 hours. The table can be found at User:Useight/Highly Active, as it has yet to have been moved into the Wikipedia namespace. Thank you for your help. Useight (talk) 02:21, 3 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Lady Aleena's future

[edit]
Acalamari...Several people have expressed an interest in my next probable nomination for adminship. Messaging people when it happens would look a lot like canvassing, so I would prefer not doing that. If you are interested in it, you could add this to your watchlist. If it is created, you will know, maybe even before I do depending on how often you check your watchlist. If you wish to gush prior to it being officially up, have fun, but only when it happens please. I am in no particular rush. Have a very nice day! :) - LA @ 10:10, 6 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Lady Aleena, I've added your next RfA to my watchlist. I saw your post on WT:RFA, and I wanted to congratulate you on your behavior there: you're the sort of person we need as an admin. Best wishes. Acalamari 19:19, 7 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Do you participate in the adoption process? If so, I would be honored if you were to take me under your wing. I feel that I have a decent grasp of the basics of Wikipedia, now it's time to expand my knowledge toward a hopefully successfull RfA in the future. If you do not participate in the process, but might be willing to point me in the direction of someone who does that you trust, I would appreciate that, as well! --InDeBiz1 (talk) 04:00, 7 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No, I'm not involved with Adopt-a-user. However, one person who is in Adopt-a-user according to Wikipedia:Adopt-a-User/Adoptee's Area/Adopters is Dihydrogen Monoxide. He is not an admin, but he's a great Wikipedian, is very experienced, and has my trust: he might be willing to take you on. If he's not able to, I'm sure either he or I can suggest another person who might be able to adopt you. Even though I'm not part of Adopt-a-user, thank you for approaching me. :) Acalamari 20:49, 7 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

When closing RfAs, either by SNOW-closure or after a candidate withdraws, be sure to add the RfA to the list of unsuccessful candidacies. Cheers, Enigma message 02:15, 8 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Heh, heh, I normally do that. :) With the recent closure, I was actually thinking more about an encouraging message to the candidate rather than the unsuccessful candidacies lists, and thus, accidentally forgot to add the RfA there. Acalamari 02:18, 8 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Don't worry, I cleaned up after you. ;) I found out about this recently, when I closed an RfA without following all the steps. Now I know to 1)add the boilerplates at top and bottom 2)Update the count, strike out the scheduled to close by date, and add a closing reason (those are the parts I knew to do) 3)remove the Voice Your Opinion link 4)Notify the candidate and 5)add it to the list of unsuccessful candidacies.
While I'm still nit-picking you, I noticed that while you got it right earlier, you slipped up on a 'you're welcome'. :P "Your welcome, and thanks for that revert too! :)" :D Enigma message 02:25, 8 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That's what happens when you forget to preview. :) Acalamari 02:29, 8 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Account creator

[edit]

Note regarding giving out "accountcreator" rights, please make sure that those users you give the rights to have any knowledge of what the right is suppose to be and secondly if they are actually willing to help or just create fake new accounts for themselves which may become a problem as you might have seen on some other testwikis..thanks.. we will be creating a Guideline/policy for admins on who to give the rights to in a couple of days..Thankies..--Cometstyles 02:39, 9 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Don't worry, I'm not going to give the new right out to people who'll abuse it. :) Where's the new policy page? Acalamari 18:17, 9 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Since you've been handing the new usergroup out, I thought I'd point you at the relevant talkpage discussion :) SQLQuery me! 12:46, 9 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the link. :) Acalamari 18:17, 9 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, I see you are interested in know a little bit more about some of the new user-rights, I went ahead (with the help of SQL and giggy) and created Wikipedia:New admin school/Accountcreator granting and revoking, so feel free to take a look! Cheers, Tiptoety talk 21:51, 9 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Heh, I've seen it. :) I was thinking it may be edited to match the format of Wikipedia:New admin school/Granting and revoking rollback, as it deals with userrights, or perhaps the pages could even be merged. Acalamari 21:55, 9 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You are more than welcome to make some changes as it is still new, but I think it having its own page is a good idea. Tiptoety talk 22:00, 9 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I think the formatting is more important than merging, in all fairness. I'll help with that. Acalamari 22:02, 9 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, great! I went ahead and moved the page to standardize the name to match that of the rollback page. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help. Cheers, Tiptoety talk 22:04, 9 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Good move: I'll sort the formatting out soon. Acalamari 22:06, 9 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Help in Linking to pages

[edit]

I would like to link this orphan image http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Charles_Sainte-Claire_Deville.jpg

To this page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Joseph_Sainte-Claire_Deville

But I don't know how to link pages together :-(

I have read the instructions, but they don't make sense to me. I'm looking for the user friendly button that says link what where ;-)

Any help would be greatly appreciated. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Professor Plum (talkcontribs) 04:16, 9 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Just add into the article. That will add the image. To link to a page, use the following brackets: , so if I want to link to the Christina Aguilera article, I do that by typing in Christina Aguilera, which creates Christina Aguilera. Acalamari 18:23, 9 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have no problem with that block. Thanks, NawlinWiki (talk) 20:44, 9 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Okay then. Thank you for your input. Acalamari 20:46, 9 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Um...

[edit]

I believe you posted the following to my watchlist: (User rights log); 02:20 . . Acalamari (Talk | contribs) changed rights for User:AngelOfSadness from accountcreator, ipblock-exempt, rollbacker to accountcreator, rollbacker (Two rights) (User rights log); 02:16 . . Acalamari (Talk | contribs) changed rights for User:AngelOfSadness from rollbacker to rollbacker, ipblock-exempt, accountcreator (Trustworthy for these rights) Can you explain on my discussion page what this means?Maolain (talk) 01:22, 10 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I changed AngelOfSadness' userrights: I mistakenly gave her two extra rights, and I had to remove one of them.Acalamari 01:53, 10 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Rfb participation thanks

[edit]

Hello, Acalamari.

I wanted to personally thank you for taking part in the project-wide discussions regarding my candidacy for bureaucratship. After bureaucratic discussion, the bureaucrats decided that there was sufficient significant and varied opposition to my candidacy, and thus no consensus to promote. Although personally disappointed, I both understand and respect their decision, especially in light of historical conservatism the project has had when selecting its bureaucrats. If you have any further suggestions or comments as to how you think I could help the project, please let me know. Once again, thank you for your both your early and strong support. Also, I already have the T-shirt. You wouldn't happen to have a sweatshirt, would you? -- Avi (talk) 17:00, 12 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Interview

[edit]

I am trying to find a wikipedia administrator who would readily do an interview for a research project I am conducting from the perspective of a wikipedia insider. If you'd like to do this, please email me at goat77 (AT) gmail.com —Preceding unsigned comment added by Goat77 (talkcontribs) 18:07, 12 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

for the user talkpage reverts. They, were as always, very much appreciated. :) I have a question though, I have been informed of another apparent spoof which is currently unblocked but they haven't edited two days so the username may or may not cause confusion. I was wondering if I should go ahead and report the name or wait to see if they edit from the account again before taking the appropriate action. With the other spoofs, as you know, each was blocked within minutes of editing/account creation so that's why I'm unsure what to do with this one. Cheers for the advice in advance :) AngelOfSadness talk 20:00, 12 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome for the revert! :) I've gone ahead and blocked that spoof: by the fact they informed you that they were a spoof means that they were deliberately trying to cause trouble. Blocked. This edit looks interesting too... Acalamari 20:18, 12 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Cheers. I kinda guessed that :). It's strange with the last diff because after the signature was changed, I archived my talkpage and the editor who changed the sig, informed me again of the spoof. Sounds like someone was an eager beaver to make sure I knew about the fifth spoof. AngelOfSadness talk 20:25, 12 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
See, I told you that you would get more spoofs. :) You're welcome for the block. Acalamari 20:28, 12 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the beach!
