Question from DJ Best Academy (19:45, 22 August 2024)

[edit]

Hello 👋, please I’m new how do I edit article . I’m a dj and I teach djing. I want to contribute in my niche. --DJ Best Academy (talk) 19:45, 22 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@DJ Best Academy Howdy hello and welcome to Wikipedia! For starters, you can look at your talk page and see a some welcome messages that have been left for you, which has some starting points. Beyond that, there's no one way to learn to edit Wikipedia. I'd suggest finding a page on a subject you're interested in, reading it, and seeing if any typos or other issues stand out at you. Beyond that, then I'd suggest thinking what the article does well or doesn't do well, and how you might research sources to improve it. Give some of the links on your talk page a try, and if you get stuck or have questions, ask me a follow-up question here. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 04:06, 24 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

WikiCup 2024 August newsletter

[edit]

The fourth round of the 2024 WikiCup ended on 29 August. Each of the 8 contestants who advanced to Round 4 scored at least 472 points, and the following contestants scored more than 700 points:

Congratulations to our eight finalists and all who participated. Contestants put in extraordinary amounts of effort during this round, and their scores can be seen here. So far this year, competitors have gotten 36 featured articles, 55 featured lists, 15 good articles, 93 in the news credits, and at least 333 did you know credits. They have conducted 357 featured content reviews, as well as 553 good article reviews and peer reviews, and have added 30 articles to featured topics and good topics.

Any content promoted after 29 August but before the start of Round 5 can be claimed during Round 5, which starts on 1 September at 00:00 (UTC). Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. If two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether for a good article, featured content, or anything else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. Remember to claim your points within 14 days of earning them, and importantly, before the deadline on 31 October.

If you would like to learn more about rules and scoring for the 2024 WikiCup, please see this page. Further questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup and the judges (Cwmhiraeth (talk · contribs), Epicgenius (talk · contribs), and Frostly (talk · contribs)) are reachable on their talk pages. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Lucy Letby

[edit]

In this edit [1] you edited a sentence under discussion in this RfC: Talk:Lucy Letby#RFC on first sentence. I won't revert it because (a) I strongly agree and (b) the RfC is also now strongly trending to that consensus. However I thought you should be aware. You might see fit to close the RfC as it has been open almost a month now. Or perhaps request another closer. Sirfurboy🏄 (talk) 08:53, 31 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Voting for coordinators is now open!

[edit]

Nominations for the upcoming project coordinator election have opened. A team of up to ten coordinators will be elected for the next coordination year. The project coordinators are the designated points of contact for issues concerning the project, and are responsible for maintaining our internal structure and processes. They do not, however, have any authority over article content or editor conduct, or any other special powers. More information on being a coordinator is available here. If you are interested in running, please sign up here by 23:59 UTC on 14 September! Voting will commence on 15 September. If you have any questions, you can contact any member of the current coord team. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 06:40, 1 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Ernstik 5 (12:08, 8 September 2024)

[edit]

Hello, I am a musical artist and I want to create an article about myself. Is it possible? Thanks! --Ernstik 5 (talk) 12:08, 8 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Ernstik 5 While its certainly not impossible, its very difficult. Its hard to write about yourself in a manner that is neutral, and not an advertisement, even for the best writers. Further, you might not qualify for an article. We only write about notable subjects, which usually requires someone to have received significant media coverage. Usually, if you're notable, someone else will write an article about you in time. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 02:20, 9 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Wikieduuser (03:03, 10 September 2024)

[edit]

Hi how do I create pages? --Wikieduuser (talk) 03:03, 10 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Wikieduuser It seems you figured out how to submit articles to the AFC queue, which is the first step. Now the issue you face though is that the subject is likely not notable, i.e. not well known enough to qualify for an article. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 20:06, 10 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! I've made edits to include many more national-level media appearances and TV appearances. Is this good now Captain? Wikieduuser (talk) 01:09, 11 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Wikieduuser Well the first issue is I don't think the Weixin citations will be appropriate. Social media is not generally allowed as a source except for very specific circumstances. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 06:52, 11 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your reply. I will see how to find the same articles from elsewhere. Thank you. Wikieduuser (talk) 06:55, 11 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you again for the reply. I have removed Wechat sources, and replaced them with official account of Shanghai Education Television Station's Program, and Sohu News. Does the Draft pass review now? Wikieduuser (talk) 13:21, 11 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Wikieduuser I'm not going to review it for you; it'll get reviewed in the review queue in the normal course of events. I suspect you're going to have a hard time getting it approved though, because its hard to point to what this guy is actually...important for? Like, we aren't writing about many 21 year olds; they have to be pretty exceptional to warrant inclusion. He's a promising young man, but we don't write about folks just because they might be noteworthy at some point. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 04:34, 12 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Freecranes on Supranet (01:43, 11 September 2024)

[edit]

is the user page just a list of links? I'm in text editor trying to create user page for Freecranes...

i was distracted and attempting my first edit...

what am i doing? thanks beth --Freecranes (talk) 01:43, 11 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Freecranes a user page can be whatever you want it to be! Within reason of course; it still has to relate to your function of being a Wikipedia editor. But folks put all sorts of different things on their pages. Mine has a mix of pictures, humourous quotes, practical tools, and more. Beyond that I guess I'm not exactly sure what you're asking? Can you help me narrow down your question? CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 06:55, 11 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
