Paris

[edit]

Paris serves as the Holodoctor's main nurse for several years. Lots42 (talk) 03:36, 16 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

While Lots42 is correct, I believe that Category:Fictional nurses is designed for actual nurses, not improvised ones. To wit, Tom Paris acted as the de facto nurse/medic for Voyager, but was not an actual "certified" nurse, as I believe this category is intended. (Also, wasn't Kes termed "nurse" and Paris referred to as a "medic"?) For the purposes of Wikipedia, I endorse Ejfetters' removal of that category as it was misleading at best. VigilancePrime (talk) 04:28, 16 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Trek

[edit]
I understand both sides. I went through a brief time where I was anti-tag-my-articles, until someone explained to me that the tags were not a sign of a bad article, but were designed to attract other editors to help fix them. Once I got that down, I actually started tagging more articles myself more too! Anyway, I know you had the best of intentions and hope we can work on some article improvements in the near future. Take a look at Starfleet ranks and insignia (and I did merge Captain (Star Trek) into it). I think the format is far better now, but still has a long way to go. Best of luck to you in the future! VigilancePrime (talk) 07:07, 16 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, you proposed merging the List of DS9 characters into the main list of Star Trek characters. However, you didn't set up a discussion section for this on the talk page, and no discussion has taken place about it. I propose to boldly rename the list as List of minor recurring characters in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and remove all who are (i) major or (ii) not recurring. (Following the AFD for Mallora, I'd then make a similarly-titled list for ST:Enterprise.) However, I don't feel I should do that while your merge proposal remains on the page. Even though you plainly got tired of this stuff last week, I'd value your comments. - Fayenatic (talk) 20:45, 19 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'd keep the alphabetic lists covering the whole franchise, because in my view these are (i) clearly best for crossover characters, and (ii) sufficient for minor characters who are non-recurring (or recurring but still not very significant). I'm proposing complementary lists for each series which allow an infobox for each minor recurring character and fuller information on their significance in plots. So... no, I'm not ready to go with your grand idea, which would be a lot of work; who knows, maybe I'll come round to see your point of view as I continue the work. At least we agree on my proposal, so I'll get going.
I'd also like to suggest we use redirects for navigating from articles to lists. For instance, Brunt is linked in articles to List of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine characters#Brunt, but he's not there any more. If all the articles linked to Brunt (Star Trek), then that redirect could easily be updated to whichever list had the fullest info on the character. If, for instance, the four alphabetic lists get split up later in any other way - whether by series, as you suggest, or into smaller lists - it would be much easier to update all links using a single redirect. This could be publicised on WikiProject Star Trek, but where else could we advise it where it might be seen? - Fayenatic (talk) 11:54, 21 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

RE: Image:MonteCarlofire.jpg_listed_for_deletion

[edit]

Yeppers, go right ahead and delete it. I uploaded that on the day of the blaze, not knowing just how large or small of a story this was going to turn out to be (the fire was still spreading when I zapped it into the article). As it turns out, it wasn't such a major fire after all, and as such, I doubt whether the article section dealing with the event actually needs a picture. If a suitable replacement image cannot be placed, no big loss. Edit Centric (talk) 06:26, 29 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:TbdDVD.jpg

[edit]

Sorry, I'm late to read this. I have been on holiday till today and on Wednesday it will start again. So can you add the rationale, please. Wether the picture got already deleted, please upload it again - or in that case, please use a lower resolution. --Oli W 93 (talk) 17:26, 11 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I now wrote a rationale to use it in The Best Damn Tour - Live in Toronto (Just in time!). Please correct or delete it wether t's wrong. --Oli W 93 (talk) 17:34, 11 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Image policy

[edit]

I noticed (my name was on some of the images because i'd done some duplicate filename cleanup) some image deletion nominations you did... I don't think you quite understand how the image policy works. Images captured from DVDs aren't somehow "more acceptable" for use than promotional images. The copyright status is perfectly clear: they are copyrighted by NBC and none of the pages claim otherwise. The 'source' in a rationale only means where the uploader got the image, not where it originally came from. You should read WP:NFCC. --Random832 (contribs) 16:59, 3 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • If the source where it was found was copied illegally it does not make the copy legal. That would be like copying a copy of a CD and saying its legal. That the image is copyrighted by NBC is not what I question, I question where it says it has been released for this use as the template says. Screencaps are merely a portion of the work, the work being the entire episode of thousands of frames. A publicity shot is the entire work. A portion is less infringing than the entire work. This was discussed in the Star Trek character pages, and was ruled that they would be repalced with screencaps, and all the publicity shots were nominated and deleted. This is the only warning you will receive for your disruptive edits.
The next time you insert a spam link, you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. Spammers may have their websites blacklisted as well, preventing their websites from appearing on Wikipedia. Stop spamming your wiki on Heroes related articles.— dαlus Contribs 01:35, 4 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • It is not my wiki, its a wiki I found, I wish it were my wiki lol I would be proud of that lol. How is it ok to have a Star Trek wiki linked to every Star Trek article but not a Heroes wiki, I am lost. Ejfetters (talk) 05:14, 4 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Please don't place warning like this, simply ask me on my talk page and we can figure it out, doesn't help to add this to my page because it just upsets people.Ejfetters (talk) 05:48, 4 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Some spam can go years without being noticed. Please, link me to the template. As to your wikilink template, it is still spam, and it will be marked as such.— dαlus Contribs 06:16, 4 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Heroeswiki template

[edit]

Hello... FYI, I have removed the template from the articles. Given that there is disagreement as to its application, and that there is an active Wikiproject covering these articles, it is more appropriate to resolve the issues before applying a new template. I would ask that you do not restore it until this matter is resolved. (Please note that this removal is not an expression of agreement or disagreement with the template itself, but instead a procedural matter. Please feel free to ask if you have any questions.) --Ckatzchatspy 06:17, 4 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

FYI, I have also removed the "speedy delete" tag so that discussion can commence. However, I would strongly discourage you from restoring it to any articles until there is discussion and consensus to do so. --Ckatzchatspy 06:31, 4 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Ejfetters, please do not restore the template yet. As mentioned earlier, and given the wide nature of the application, it warrants discussion. If there is agreement, we can certainly restore it. Please see Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Heroes#Heroes Wiki, part two. Thanks in advance. --Ckatzchatspy 09:57, 4 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Please also see my note at Template:Heroes Wiki, outlining some basic cleanup on the template. Thanks. --Ckatzchatspy 09:58, 4 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! Another user left word on my talk page regarding your possibly improper use of external links. I'm not entirely sure what the concern is based on, so would you please leave word on my talk page when you have a moment so that we can resolve any potential conflict? Heroes Wiki

[edit]

I'm the one that left a note on PMDrive's talk page, and I admit, I should have told him that it had been solved, I honestly forgot to. But, that aside, feel free to request an undeletion of your template, you can add the wiki link back to the articles because the wiki itself has as much merit and history as those Star Trek wikis you noted, so you should be able to add it back in.— dαlus Contribs 02:18, 27 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of Edward Cullen.jpg and Jacob Black.jpg

[edit]

Please do not try to delete these images. They are posters for the movie and their copyright status is clearly stated. They are an integral part of the Twilight (2008 film) article. And do not put the banned user contribution to your favor. A sockpuppet might have uploaded the file, but nevertheless, it is an important contribution.Pmlinediter (talk) 12:43, 3 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • My reasoning is listed, they should be replaced with screencaps from the film. Screencaps are far less infringing because they are merely a portion of the work, and the publicity image here is the entire work. Bella Swan has a screencap, which is good. Simply because and image is "better" is not grounds for keeping it either. This has been done for numerous television show and movie characters. Simply capture a screencap, put the required information on it, and replace it. Ejfetters (talk) 12:49, 3 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • And also, please don't remove image tags for current FFD until the discussion is closed by an admin. These tags are in place to draw users to the page and notify them that it is nominated for deletion. Removing the tags will not change its nomination status. Please read the tag and follow proper procedures, thanks. Ejfetters (talk) 12:55, 3 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • I see you're working on changing them to screencaps too, just let me know if you need any help with the fair use rationale stuff. I found someone made a good rationale that I pretty much use like a template, look at infobox image in Jadzia Dax for example. Now you would have to tweak it to fit the subject, change pronouns and TV to film, stuff like that. And when you get them all set let me know, and I will just post a withdrawal for the image nominations on the discussion page. Ejfetters (talk) 13:12, 3 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Pertaining to your message you left on talk page about File:Addams Family.jpg, i didnt upload that, user The Man in Question as seen at this link diff. You may also see this by checking the Revision history of File:Addams Family.jpg. Moves to Commons

[edit]

You recently marked several fair use logos to be moved to Commons, some of which you had (some time ago) changed to {{PD-textlogo}}. Several of these arguably cross the threshold of originality, and I have undone your tags for moving those logos to Commons. For example, you tagged File:Best Buy Logo.svg, although to be in the public domain, text logos require common geometric shapes, while the Best Buy logo consists of a price tag design, not simply a rectangle or a circle. In other cases where I reverted your requested moves, the text was significantly stylized or altered so as to arguably constitute a creative original work. In the future, I would recommend you consider posting a list of the logos you believe should be migrated to commons:Template talk:PD-textlogo/en before batch tagging. I did leave the free photographs you tagged alone, of course. Thanks! user:J aka justen (talk) 10:08, 4 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It's no trouble at all. You may be right about the Circuit City logo, I'm really not sure. I've always worried about the potential implications of building up a cache of logos on Commons based on our interpretations of what is or is not stylized, creative, common, etc. Nevertheless, the process is there, though I hope you'll consider getting a second opinion on that talk page, as those folks should have more experience in evaluating logos like the slightly more complicated Best Buy one. Good luck! Take care, user:J aka justen (talk) 14:14, 5 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yep, I already posted on that page. Ejfetters (talk) 18:09, 5 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

RE: User 67.188.47.4 vandalism

[edit]

Thank you for the message on my talk page [1]. As noted in the second half of WP:AIV criteria #3, "warnings must be recent" which is normally defined as the current calendar month. Prior to the warning you issued today, the IP had only received three warnings during August, with none of those being more than a level two warning [2]. Additionally, the first half of criteria #3 states that "unregistered users must be active now," and since this IP's last edit was more than three days before you issued the {{uw-vandalism4}} warning, I cannot in good faith block the address. Please let me know if you have any other questions or issues. Thanks, — Kralizec! (talk) 09:44, 11 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

To our newest Rollbacker

[edit]

I have just granted you rollback rights because I believe you to be trustworthy, and because you have a history of reverting vandalism and have given in the past or are trusted in the future to give appropriate warnings. Please have a read over WP:ROLLBACK and remember that rollback is only for use against obvious vandalism. Please use it that way (it can be taken away by any admin at a moment's notice). You may want to consider adding {{Rollback}} and {{User rollback}} to your userpage. Any questions, please drop me a line. Best of luck and thanks for volunteering! wadester16 05:34, 16 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Blank RFArb

[edit]

It appears you have inserted a blank Request for Arbitration: [3] If you actually wanted to file an Arbitration case, you should probably fill in the template, replacing the Involved Parties section with a list of involved parties, notifying the involved parties, and giving a statement. Replaceable fair use File:PalmsLogo.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:PalmsLogo.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Hghyux (talk to me)(talk to others) 01:23, 17 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
