Hello, welcome to my talk page!

If you want to leave a message, please do it at the bottom, as a new section, for better formatting. You can do that by simply pressing the plus sign (+) or "new section" on the top of this page. And don't forget to sign your messages with four tildes, like this: ~~~~

Attention: I prefer to keep discussions unfragmented. If you leave a comment for me here, I will most likely respond to it on this same page—my talk page—as an effort to keep the entire conversation in one place. By the same token, if I leave a comment on your talk page, please respond to it there. Remember, we can use our watchlist and topic subscriptions to keep track of when responses are made. At the same time, feel free to send an alert to me on this page about a comment you have left elsewhere.

Thank you!

what should be my first step in research of any article I want to work on — Preceding unsigned comment added by Obokposio (talkcontribs) 12:57, 18 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome! There are many ways to work on articles on Wikipedia. The guidance at Wikipedia:Article development may help you with understanding what steps you should take (and where you can find further information) to improve Wikipedia articles. IffyChat -- 13:25, 18 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Oduro Enoch Antwi (15:38, 20 July 2024)

[edit]

Please how do I edit an article --Oduro Enoch Antwi (talk) 15:38, 20 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome! Most pages on Wikipedia can be edited by anyone, all you have to do is click "Edit" on the top right of the page to get started. You can find out more about editing at Help:Editing. IffyChat -- 15:56, 20 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from RDX300 (13:40, 22 July 2024)

[edit]

Hey mentor I just submitted my first article draft if you want to read over --RDX300 (talk) 13:41, 22 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It can be seen here Draft:Far-UVC RDX300 (talk) 13:41, 22 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello! I see that you have created your draft, but not yet submitted it for review. If you think your draft is ready for review, all you have to do now is to press the Submit the draft for review! button. I haven't looked closely at your draft, but some of your references have issues with the date parameters, see Help:CS1_errors#bad_date for more information on what could be wrong with the dates in your references. IffyChat -- 13:52, 22 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Iffy. What does 'submit for review' designate if I can still share a draft with you? RDX300 (talk) 13:54, 22 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Submitting lets the draft be reviewed through the WP:AFC process. Other experienced editors will become aware of your draft and have the opportunity to review the draft, so that you are not relying entirely on me for any review of your efforts. IffyChat -- 14:01, 22 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ah amazing ok thanks for the help mentor!! RDX300 (talk) 14:05, 22 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome! As I said to someone just above: "Most pages on Wikipedia can be edited by anyone, all you have to do is click "Edit" on the top right of the page to get started. You can find out more about editing at Help:Editing.". IffyChat -- 19:35, 28 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Atakes Ris (08:25, 3 August 2024)

[edit]

Hello there, I just finished an edit and want to know how to rename the title of a page? --Atakes Ris (talk) 08:25, 3 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

To change the title of a page, it needs to be moved from the old title to the new one. You can find out how to do this at Help:How to move a page. IffyChat -- 13:41, 3 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Atakes Ris (03:27, 12 August 2024)

[edit]

Hello there, are sidebars supposed to contain the same info as their respective templates (say discrimination), or are they supposed to have less information (say geography)? Thanks :) --Atakes Ris (talk) 03:27, 12 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! These questions are usually determined on an article by article basis (or a template by template basis), there is more guidance on navigation templates at WP:SIDEBAR. IffyChat -- 08:24, 12 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Buddyrico1718 (10:17, 14 August 2024)

[edit]

How do I create taxonomy templates? --Buddyrico1718 (talk) 10:17, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! I don't know how taxonomy templates work here as it isn't an area I have ever edited in. My quick research suggests that Wikipedia:Automated taxobox system may help with what you're looking for. IffyChat -- 10:53, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Accrashepp (18:48, 18 August 2024)

[edit]

Hi Iffy,

Thank you for being available to answer questions! I joined today because I didn't realize I had a Wikipedia page on myself and there are a couple of errors that I need to fix (where I went to school).

When being introduced (as a guest lecturer at a university generally) I would wonder why the host would list my education incorrectly! Now I know :)

Best,

Accra --Accrashepp (talk) 18:48, 18 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome! It is not generally considered best practice to edit Wikipedia articles you have direct connection to as this is seen as a conflict of interest. For potentially controversial edits, you should use the talk page of the article and make an edit request, so independent editors can neutrally assess your proposed changes. IffyChat -- 19:02, 18 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Allan Frazão (23:26, 18 August 2024)

[edit]

Hello. I'm a new freelance translator. How can I send a request asking for permission to use the translation tool? --Allan Frazão (talk) 23:26, 18 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! If you are talking about access to the Wikipedia:Content translation tool, you need to have an account that is at least 30 days and and with 500 edits on English Wikipedia to get access to that tool. Access to the tool is not required to translate articles to or from English, see Wikipedia:Translation for more information. IffyChat -- 10:44, 19 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from TLDavis1 (01:44, 22 August 2024)

[edit]

I am looking to contribute an article about myself, my novels, film, magazine articles and awards and such to create a record of my work. Since Wikipedia is a source I use to find out more about other writers or better known personalities who I write about. --TLDavis1 (talk) 01:44, 22 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! Wikipedia is not a place that is intended for self promotion, as there is a conflict of interest between writing an encyclopedia and promoting your own work. If you think there are places in Wikipedia where things you have done can be written in an encyclopedic manner, you should make an edit request, so independent editors can neutrally assess your proposed changes. Question from MariaK100 (18:55, 12 September 2024)

[edit]

I do not understand the reason for article decline. The sources are all sited from the news articles about the artist --MariaK100 (talk) 18:55, 12 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! The message left on both the article and on your user talk have explains that your draft was declined because "This submission appears to read more like an advertisement than an entry in an encyclopedia". I would advise re-reading the message and trying to re-write the draft so that it is written from a Neutral point of view. I see that you have re-written and re-submitted already, so feel free to keep improving the draft (or another part of Wikipedia) while you wait for another review. Welcome! I see you have already submitted this draft for review, but I think the next reviewer is likely to decline it again. Hi! This is a reminder Articles for Creation reviewers who don't perform any reviews for six months can be removed from the list for inactivity. Don't be a stranger! We'd love to see you take on any number of reviews, but even a single one will be enough to maintain your reviewer status.

Thanks for volunteering, and thanks for the reviews you've done so far! -- asilvering (talk) 20:04, 5 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
