Discretionary sanctions alerts, please read

[edit]

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have shown interest in living or recently deceased people, and edits relating to the subject (living or recently deceased) of such biographical articles. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.

Please stop adding unsourced content, as you did on Rosie Winterton. This violates Wikipedia's policy on verifiability. If you continue to do so, you may be blocked from editing Wikipedia. Mattythewhite (talk) 00:42, 27 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I don't follow. The source for the category literally comes from here, the same way the LFI category comes from here.
References need to be cited in the body of the article, not merely in an edit summary. What use is that to the casual reader? How can they be expected to check the page history, in case an editor left a link to a source in one of their edit summaries? You've edited here for nearly nine years, you really ought to have developed an understanding of how to reference content by now. Mattythewhite (talk) 13:56, 27 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Could you please explain...

In this edit you rewrote working references, in violation of the well understood principle "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". Why? Geo Swan (talk) 05:25, 2 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Your draft article, Draft:1985 BRIT Awards

[edit]

Hello, Unreal7. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "1985 BRIT Awards".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been nominated for deletion. If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}}, {{db-draft}}, or {{db-g13}} code.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by following the instructions at this link. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Thanks for your submission to Wikipedia, and happy editing. CptViraj (Talk) 07:35, 4 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Unreal7! Family members of people with articles on Wikipedia have a certain right to privacy.' As per WP:BLPNAME: When the name of a private individual has not been widely disseminated or has been intentionally concealed, [...] it is often preferable to omit it [...] Consider whether the inclusion of names of living private individuals who are not directly involved in an article's topic adds significant value. And as per WP:BLPPRIVACY: Wikipedia includes full names and dates of birth that have been widely published by reliable sources [...] If [...] the person is borderline notable, err on the side of caution and simply list the year, provided that there is a reliable source for it.. A son yes, maybe even the year of birth, but anything more isn't well published and shouldn't be included as it adds nothing of significant value: a child is not even "borderline notable". Best-selling singles of the 2000s in the UK

[edit]

Hi – I'm not sure I agree with the edits you've made at List of best-selling singles of the 2000s (decade) in the United Kingdom... the reason being that the OCC's recent list appears to include sales to date, i.e. up to 2019, when the original list was meant to be for sales between 2000 and 2009. Richard3120 (talk) 18:12, 17 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Nope. Only sales from 2000 to 2009. Crazy and Poker Face are listed as below 1 million, despite being million-sellers now. Unreal7 (talk) 18:45, 17 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough then. But does it say so in the book? Because it really isn't clear at all from the OCC article... it talks about "Crazy" having 977,000 "now". And it says eleven million-sellers originated from that decade, but Lady Gaga's two singles at nos. 16 and 22 are also million-sellers... but surely they also originated in that decade? Richard3120 (talk) 18:49, 17 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, Poker Face was 2010 and Bad Romance was 2013. Unreal7 (talk) 20:55, 17 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I was actually thinking "Just Dance" and "Poker Face", which were both 2008. But never mind, you're right about it just being sales from within that decade, although the journalism in that article is really poor and confusing. Richard3120 (talk) 21:33, 17 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. They both hit a million in the 2010s (both released in the UK in 2009) and Just Dance isn't quite there yet. Unreal7 (talk) 22:17, 17 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom 2019 election voter message

[edit]
Hello! Voting in the 2019 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 on Monday, 2 December 2019. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2019 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:13, 19 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use File:CLP deputy nominations.jpeg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:CLP deputy nominations.jpeg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{Di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Whpq (talk) 01:35, 22 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Unreal. Hope you're well. I'm reaching out to people who have edited South Wales East (Senedd Cymru electoral region) and, in particular, people who know how to edit the table of list members. The Conservative Senedd member Mohammed Asghar has died and having tried to just enter "Vacant" underneath his name, I've got lost in a mathematical haze of rowspan=x rowspan=z rowspan=q confusion. I just can't for the life of me work out which rowspans and column spans and other numbers I have to increase by 1 to add the word "vacant" underneath his name. Could you either help or do this for me please? I had the same problems with European Parliament regions, I just get brain freeze whenever I try to work out what to do with rowspan numbers and I'm too scared to just go ahead and wish for the best!

Thanks for any assistance :) I'll post a version of this message on a few other editors pages too just in case there's someone else about. Speak soon doktorb wordsdeeds 18:53, 16 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion nomination of Hasan Piker

[edit]

Hello, Unreal7,

Welcome to Wikipedia! I edit here too, under the username Onel5969 and I thank you for your contributions.

I wanted to let you know, however, that I have tagged an article that you started, Hasan Piker, for deletion, because [consensus decision] previously decided that it wasn't suitable for inclusion in the encyclopedia. If you wish to restore a page deleted via a deletion discussion, please use the deletion review process instead, rather than reposting the content of the page.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top. If the page is already deleted by the time you come across this message and you wish to retrieve the deleted material, please contact the deleting administrator.

For any further query, please leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|Onel5969}}. And, don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~ . Thanks!

Nomination of James More for deletion

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/James More until a consensus is reached, and anyone, including you, is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article. Rathfelder (talk) 22:07, 29 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Young Dumb Thrills, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Young Dumb Thrills moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created, Young Dumb Thrills, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Armenia/Azerbaijan discretionary sanctions

[edit]

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have shown interest in Armenia, Azerbaijan, or related conflicts.

Notice

The article James Arthur Tour has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-notable, unsourced concert tour fails both WP:GNG and WP:CONCERT TOUR that has been tagged as needing additional references for seven months, but they are the same two references when the article was created seven years ago. There are two references, both are non-reliable sources just stating tour dates.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Requests

[edit]

Hi, I'm a big fan of your work on the site!

This might be a weird request but I was wondering if you could put your brilliant editing/writing skills to work on the Ezra Klein article. I attempted to correct the lede and intro but the main body is severely lacking (i.e. poorly organised, baggy in parts). Since you are such a pro at this, and I am a novice - as you will no doubt notice from my use of visual edits - I thought you might be able help bring the article to a better standard. Cosmopolismetropolis (talk) 00:41, 2 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Really? Seems fine to me. Unreal7 (talk) 00:43, 2 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, maybe I'm wrong. It just seems strange that the article is not arranged in chronological order and also that it spends a lot of time discussing some issues (particularly from the mid-2000s) but is very light on major developments in his career from Vox onward.
Though if you prefer not to work on the project I understand. Cosmopolismetropolis (talk) 10:14, 2 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed you have made several contributions to The Recognition of Palestine Article. I was about to make an edit on that article but I decided not to when I learned that I am no longer allowed to make edits due to my lack of experience. However I do belive my edit last month was fair game becuase I think this is a new Wikipedia policy. Moldova's text was taken out of it's box so I put it back in to combat vandalism as the edit before mine started to clean up the article. I recall a edit from a user caliming Moldova granted recognition to Palestine in 1994 so the edit before mine was to put Moldova back on the list of countries that don't recognize Palestine and I put it's text back in the box. I am not 100 percent sure if that claim is false or not. The source provided was in Romanian and I am nowhere near being able to speak it fluently. Now for the main reason I am writing this. I am here to request an edit on the map of countries image on that article. Saint Kitts and Nevis recognized Palestine in 2019 and the map still says they haven't. So yeah if you are premitted to make that edit it would be great if you did that. I think the requirements are 500 edits minimum experience and your account being at least 30 days old. I am not 100 percent sure if that's it but I am sure you might see the warning when you go to edit that article.

Move consensus

[edit]

Hey, in cleaning up Good Article database mismatches I noticed that you moved Joshua King (footballer) to "Josh King", but when I checked the talk page I saw that there was no discussion, and that the previous discussion you started about the same move lead to a WP:SNOW closure because the consensus was so strongly in favor of keeping the name as "Joshua". Maybe the move should be discussed again if you think that some external factor will lead to a different consensus this time? -Bryan Rutherford (talk) 15:19, 14 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use File:Map of UK overseas military bases.png

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Map of UK overseas military bases.png.

Thank you. Dylsss(talk contribs) 02:44, 7 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

In tennis, the term Grand Slam refers to the accomplishment of winning all four major championships-the championships of Australia, France, Britain (Wimbledon), and the United States-in the same calendar season. The feat has been achieved six times (by five different players). Grand Slam is commonly misused to describe any one of the four major tournaments.

I noticed you made an edit to the welsh independence page and in the yes/no independence polls section the results for the 23-28 April 2021 poll were changed from 28% in favour/57% against/15% undecided to 42% in favour/49% against/8% undecided. I think you may have made an error as if you look at the Savanta poll results given by the hyperlink and scroll down to page 9, the original 28/57/15 results can be found. The table given in page 1 of the hyperlink document does not accurately represent the results given in the poll and I think the new values given in the yes/no independence poll table should be reverted to the original 28%/57%/15% for/against/undecided results.DaveyA1 (talk) 01:57, 25 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Limitless Win requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section R2 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a redirect from the article namespace to a different namespace except the Category, Template, Wikipedia, Help, or Portal namespaces.

Attribution and WP:EXISTING

[edit]

Hi Unreal7. I just noticed that two months ago, you split off the discography portion of Rex Orange County's article to a separate discography. If you do this in future, please note in an edit summary that you have split the content to a separate article, and in an edit summary on the article you have split the content to, note where it came from like I have just done. Copying Wikipedia content in this manner requires at least a note of attribution. Also, as for the template you created for the artist, please see WP:NENAN and the informal "rule of five". There are only four other articles about Rex Orange County besides his main article to link to, so the template did not need to be created quite yet. That being said, please also see WP:EXISTING. Navigational templates are not discographies and are not supposed to be "complete". They are only for linking to existing articles, so anything without an article should be left out. re Martin Brest entry

[edit]

Thanks for your attention.

Unlike athletes or those who held political office, for people in the arts, even if their work hasn't come before the public for a while, it’s not customary to use the term "former" (e.g., Marcel Duchamp). Particularly in a branch of the arts like film directing where there can be long gaps of apparent inactivity (Francis Coppola, Todd Field, etc.).

Selecting out negative opinions of an artist’s work, particularly when the inclusion of other critical opinions of their work isn’t part of an entry—particularly positive ones—seems unfairly biased and disparaging. Scholar88888 (talk) 16:31, 18 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Mexican recognition of the State of Palestine

[edit]

Hi – I noticed that you added Mexico to the list of countries that have recognized the State of Palestine at International recognition of the State of Palestine. My impression is that this hasn't actually occurred. (I'm very much in favour of recognizing the State of Palestine, so I'm not writing this for political reasons.) All sources that I can find for this (including the IRNA article you cited) refer to "the Spanish-language Twitter account [for Palestine], 'Palestino Hoy'". This Mexican article says that according to the Mexican Foreign Minstry the upgrading of the delegation to an embassy was a unilateral Palestinian step and that Mexico hasn't recognized a Palestinian state ("pero no ha reconocido un Estado Palestino"). I didn't want to undo your edits, both because this is a controversial topic and I wanted to hear your perspective first, and because you seem to have made some changes to other parts of the list in the same edit and it's probably easier for you to make sure those don't get lost in the reversion. [edit]

Unreal7, you are an experienced editor. I don't know why you still aren't leaving edit summaries, like when you didn't see fit to explain why you removed 27,000 bytes from a page [15]. Yes, clearly you split the discography from Calum Scott's article to its own page, but then you didn't add a lead (all articles should have one) nor explain where the content came from, which is required on Wikipedia for attribution purposes. You didn't come up with that content yourself, you did a copy-and-paste. Please start leaving edit summaries and doing the bare minimum like typing a few words to explain what you're doing. License tagging for File:Busted - Greatest Hits 2.0 (Guest Features Edition).jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Busted - Greatest Hits 2.0 (Guest Features Edition).jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information.

To add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia. For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 15:30, 15 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

You have been blocked indefinitely from editing for copyright violations.
If you think there are good reasons for being unblocked, please review Wikipedia's guide to appealing blocks, then add the following text to the bottom of your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.  Moneytrees🏝️(Talk) 13:43, 21 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Today I removed content you added to Germany–Palestine relations, as it was too close to this Al Jazeera source. You removed and changed a few words, but the text was still about the same; you can see the overlap by clicking "iThenticate" on this report. I gave you a final warning in July so I am no following through on it here. If you want to be unblocked, you need to commit to not from copying from sources in your future editing and demonstrate a better understanding of copyright. User:Moneytrees/Copyright blocks contains some advice on appealing this block. Moneytrees🏝️(Talk) 13:53, 21 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Ok I won't do it anymore. Unreal7 (talk) 15:18, 21 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Block

[edit]
This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy).

Unreal7 (block logactive blocksglobal blockscontribsdeleted contribsfilter logcreation logchange block settingsunblockcheckuser (log))

Request reason:

I didn't copy and paste the quote. OK it was similar but not identical. I won't do anything, similar or identical, again Unreal7 (talk) 15:23, 21 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

In order to lift the block, we need to be certain that you understand how copyright works on Wikipedia. To allow the reviewing administrator to assess your understanding, please respond to the following questions in your next unblock appeal, explaining in your own words:

  • What is copyright?
  • How is Wikipedia licenced?
  • Why is copyrighted content not allowed on Wikipedia?
  • Under what circumstances can we use copyrighted content?
  • How do you intend to avoid violating the copyright policy in the future?

Your answers will enable us to establish whether or not you should be unblocked. Yamla (talk) 15:35, 21 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Copyright is the ownership of something (physical or non-physical) by someone. Wikipedia allows various forms of content, particularly images, via Creative Commons. Things which violate copyright agreements get removed. Passing something off as your own (like videos, articles or paragraphs) is plagiarism, which is illegal under all circumstances. Copyrighted content is legal as long as it's explained what it's being used for, e.g. album covers, where no free alternative exists. I will only use paragraphs from someone else's article if it's in the form of a quote. Unreal7 (talk) 16:02, 21 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

No. These answers are generally incorrect. --Yamla (talk) 16:04, 21 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Do not refactor your comments after someone has already responded to them, please. --Yamla (talk) 16:06, 21 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I was only entering bullet points so that they looked less clunky. What was wrong with the answers? Unreal7 (talk) 16:15, 21 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Basically all of your answers were incorrect. Taking just the answer to the first question, for example, copyright isn't ownership, nor does it apply to physical objects but rather to the creative work embodied by them. You really need to go back and read WP:COPYRIGHT and WP:FAIRUSE. I won't be responding further. --Yamla (talk) 16:19, 21 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
So that's it? Unreal7 (talk) 16:35, 21 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yes that's it for the time being. You were advised above to read User:Moneytrees/Copyright blocks, which has a lot of useful advice. The best route right now is to take some time to fully read that page, and then gain a full understanding of the copyright policy and where you've been going wrong. Then when you're ready, engage with Moneytrees to see if they're prepared to give you another chance. Note that this block is the culmination of a series of warnings that don't appear to have been heeded, so this will require more than just a promise to not "do anything, similar or identical, again". And I doubt you'll be unblocked today or this week. Cheers, and hope this advice is useful.  — Amakuru (talk) 16:59, 21 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image File:CBB13eyelogo.jpg

[edit]
⚠

Thanks for uploading File:CBB13eyelogo.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 17:10, 29 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable non-free use File:Is This the Way to Amarillo.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Is This the Way to Amarillo.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of non-free use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of non-free use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{Di-replaceable non-free use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable non-free use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file's talk page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification, per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
