English Shonen Jump
[edit]To celebrate the the 10th anniversary of the manga series Naruto, Viz Media's own English Shonen Jump made a poll with all of the series' characters (I guess it must be a 2009 issue then). However, I have no idea what issue is that magazine. Regards.Tintor2 (talk) 13:16, 10 February 2018 (UTC)
- @Tintor2: Are you just asking to know what issue it is, or do you want the results of the poll? Emir of Wikipedia (talk) 20:48, 25 March 2018 (UTC)
- @Emir of Wikipedia: The issue and probably pages. I tried searching for some 2009 issues from Amazon but there were a lot of them with Naruto on the cover with no mention of the series' 10th anniversary (which the issue celebrated with).Tintor2 (talk) 21:06, 25 March 2018 (UTC)

- @Tintor2: Hmm. I see there you mentioned the Naruto Wikia, where this poll was mentioned with this edit on May 27 2010, this edit does not specify that the poll is from the English Shonen Jump but that was added with this later edit. Unfortunately this means that it might not be the English Shonen Jump. Emir of Wikipedia (talk) 19:02, 26 March 2018 (UTC)
- @Tintor2: You removed the posting at the A&M WikiProject saying you were wrong about that poll. Does that mean you are withdrawing this request or that you looking for the Japanese Shonen Jump? --Emir of Wikipedia (talk) 18:24, 28 March 2018 (UTC)
- @Emir of Wikipedia: There are far too many Japanese Shonen Jump issues per year in contrast to English Shonen Jump so I don't think anybody knows the issue that celebrated the anniversary. Also, in contrast to regular polls, it wasn't collected in a manga volume or guidebook.Tintor2 (talk) 18:31, 28 March 2018 (UTC)

Need an archeological article from East Anglian Archaeology, Issue 50
[edit]East Anglian Archaeology, Issue 50, has an article (including page 182) that discusses some elements from Aartswoud, a village in the Netherlands. I'd love to see a copy of it. Thanks! Drmies (talk) 21:33, 23 April 2018 (UTC)
- And on the same topic, I'm looking for "Aartswoud". West-Friesland's "Oud en Nieuw" (7): 203. (page numbers incomplete). I'd LOVE to have access to all the content of that journal... Drmies (talk) 00:00, 24 April 2018 (UTC)
- Drmies, email me for part of the first article. 182 is actually the index; have scans of pages 92/95, however, and should be able to get the rest within a week (today if lucky; later if they have to reshelve it before scanning again). --Usernameunique (talk) 19:12, 24 April 2018 (UTC)

Jim Verraros - part 3
[edit]All of these should be available through NewsLibrary, if not their original publications. Continued from my previous requests. Sorry, I know that it's a lot - hope I'm not asking for too much! This should be the last of them though. Thanks for the help! :)
(October 16, 2003) "People will succumb to the blues this season", The Post and Courier(January 21, 2004) "Sing Smart, Then Keep Your Mouth Shut", The State(April 26, 2005) "Bruce goes DualDisk with 'Devils and Dust'", Philadelphia Daily News(May 4, 2006) "Almost famous", The Northwest Herald(May 24, 2005) "Just what have past 'Idol' stars been up to?", Omaha World-Herald(June 6, 2005) "No Headline Available", The Post-Standard (should show up if you search "Jim Verraros", "You Turn It On", and "No Headline Available" on News Library)(June 23, 2005) "Filth", Bay Windows(August 21, 2009) "Jim Verraros doesn't disturb his formula", Washington Examiner(September 3, 2009) "Legal or not - American Idol contestant gets ready to marry his same-sex partner", San Francisco Examiner
To be used in the article Jim Verraros --Jpcase (talk) 15:34, 10 May 2018 (UTC)
- @Jpcase: The Philadelphia Daily News article doesn't mention Verraros BUT i found a different article from the same newspaper on 7 March 2008 titled "Is America ready for a gay 'Idol' contestant?". Would you like that one insteaad? I have the Northwest Herald article. Do you want all of the pages or just the page that talks about Verraros. The article mentions various American Idol alumni as well. --MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 22:47, 11 May 2018 (UTC)
- @MrLinkinPark333: I'm pretty sure that I've actually come across "Is American ready for a gay 'Idol' contestant?" (or at least, something very similar [6]) on Today.com. Thanks though! The "Bruce Goes DualDisk" article from the Philadelphia Daily News shows up on NewsLibrary when I search "Jim Verraros" (with quotation marks, so it should be an exact match) - curious why that would be, if the article doesn't mention him. The publication date is from the same week that Verraros released an album, so it seems like there would be a connection... As for the Northwest Herald article, I only really need the page on Verraros - unless earlier pages contain important contextual information. Thanks for being able to help out! --Jpcase (talk) 00:44, 12 May 2018 (UTC)
- @Jpcase: I see what happened. The article was split into two pages. Rollercoaster was on the following page. --MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 00:52, 12 May 2018 (UTC)
- @MrLinkinPark333: Thanks for double checking on that! Is there any credited author for the "Bruce Goes DualDisk" article? As for your question in the e-mail, I've actually come across both of those articles already (they're still available online). I appreciate the offer though! --Jpcase (talk) 02:49, 12 May 2018 (UTC)

- @John M Baker: Thanks for the help! I went ahead and tried to buy the "No Headline Available" article from NewsLibrary (and was charged) but am unable to view the article...so that's frustrating. Sent an e-mail to NewsLibrary a couple days ago requesting help, but haven't heard anything back. I'll go ahead and cross the article out anyway. --Jpcase (talk) 00:24, 18 May 2018 (UTC)

Year Book and Guide of the Rhodesias and Nyasaland 1944
[edit]{{resolved}} I'm after pages 594 and 595 of this book in order to confirm whether Godfrey Pelletier was a Legislative Council member and to get a full biography for him (possibly to start an article). Cheers, Number 57 00:08, 24 February 2018 (UTC)
- Number 57, not trivial to find, many major libraries have significant gaps in their holdings of this yearbook. Bellezzasolo listed himself under Wikipedia:WikiProject Resource Exchange/Shared Resources#Public as potentially having access to the Bodleian Library, which has the volume requested here, http://solo.bodleian.ox.ac.uk/OXVU1:LSCOP_OX:oxfaleph012663436. (One might have to check both volumes 1943/44 and 1944/45 as it is not clear from the information supplied here which one it is.) Maybe he has a chance to take a look and possibly provide a scan of these two pages? — Pajz (talk) 16:16, 10 April 2018 (UTC)

Juno Award for Artist of the Year nominees 1970-73
[edit]{{stale}} Hello. I'm look for the nominees for the Juno Award for Artist of the Year from 1970-73 for both Best Male and Female Vocalists. The award was named Top Male/Female Vocalist from 1970-71 and Male/Female Vocalist of the Year from 1972-73. Problem is, the Junos website does not have the nominees for these years and it's shown in the Wikipedia article as missing. I copied the 1971 nominees were from Juno Awards of 1971 but I'm not sure if they're right. I've been searching in databases and Google searching but coming up dry. If anyone could provide the names for Juno Award for Artist of the Year from 1970-73 for both Best Male and Female Vocalists, I'd be grateful to finally fill in this gap. Thanks! --MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 22:18, 21 February 2018 (UTC)
- @MrLinkinPark333: The best chance of finding the nominees may be to search RPM, the Toronto magazine that organized the awards. As far as I know it hasn't been digitized, and is only available at four WorldCat libraries: Library and Archives Canada, Université du Québec à Montréal, New York Public Library, and Chicago Public Library (OCLC 32503235).
- On a side note, in my searches I found that Billboard has a list of RPM Award winners (the precursor to The Gold Leaf and Juno Awards) that could be used to expand RPM (magazine) with the 1967-1969 winners, if anyone is so inclined. [7] (pages 46 and 48 [76 and 78 in the pdf]). --Worldbruce (talk) 18:09, 3 April 2018 (UTC)
- Yeah I was working on RPM awards before cause I stumbled upon that Billboard article as well but stopped for awhile. I can wait for the nominees as I'm nowhere near those libraries. --MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 21:26, 3 April 2018 (UTC)

Hi, Pajz - my apologies, but not knowing how the archives of these UK and/or London papers work or what papers were published during those times, ?(Daily Express, The Guardian, Daily Mail, Observer)? I don't know. I thought maybe the research would be similar to newspapers.com wherein you enter the year (range), and keywords to find articles. The 3 crimes were high profile in the London area. I think The Guardian published his obit (he died 15 January 1995). I've listed below what I know. If there was some way I could get access to the newspapers, I'd be happy to do the research myself.
- The East Castle Street robbery took place on 21 May 1952 near Oxford Street in London.
- The Great Train Robbery (1963) took place 8 August 1963 near Mentmore in Buckinghamshire, England.
- The Guardian; 26 January 1995; Final curtain for robber who got away
- The armoured truck robbery took place in 1962 at Heathrow Airport - £62,000 was stolen.

Spinosaurus-Onchopristis Paleoecology
[edit]{{resolved}} I generally just need a source to verify the existence of Onchopristis fossils associated with those of Spinosaurus, suggesting they had a predator/prey relationship, and I suspect this is one of them, but if there are any others it'd be much appreciated.▼PσlєοGєєкƧɊƲΔƦΣƉ▼ (Contribs) 23:41, 17 May 2018 (UTC)

- PaleoGeekSquared, so you are requesting only the pages needed to verify that claim, right? (I am also wondering if a companion book to a television series is a good source for a scientific claim, but I suppose that is for the author to decide.) — Pajz (talk) 19:33, 20 May 2018 (UTC)
- @Pajz That is correct, only pages on Onchopristis are needed. As for the reliability, it was written by british paleontologist Darren Naish, so I think it's safe to say the source is reliable. The New York Times
[edit]{{Resolved}}
I'm after any or all of the following five articles from The New York Times between the 1920s and 1950s:
- "Fine Character Studies In Fantastic Picture". The New York Times. March 28, 1926. p. 5.
- "Current Magazine". The New York Times. October 3, 1926. p. 20.
- "Mrs. Fosburgh Left $1,432,547 Estate". The New York Times. December 12, 1933. p. 12.
- "11 New Yorker's on Casualty List". The New York Times. July 23, 1942. p. 12.
- "Noonan--Dwyer". The New York Times. January 8, 1956. p. 106.
The article being improved is James Francis Dwyer. Obviously I need the entire PDF for the pages in question as the title of the article in the references above may not be the title of the particular column that has matched the search function. Ping me back here if you reply. Thanks heaps, Freikorp (talk) 01:38, 27 May 2018 (UTC)
- Sent to Freikorp. I'm not sure what your instruction means, though. If you search for a certain term on nytimes.com, that search should get to you to the article, not a random article on that page, no? At any rate, there is no easy way - as far as I can see - to download the entire page using the Times' "TimesMachine article viewer" (but I can view it and can select different articles on the page). — Pajz (talk) 03:50, 27 May 2018 (UTC)
- Thanks so much. Judging from the article titles I was worried what I was after might be another article on the same page, but you're right, they are all correct. :) Freikorp (talk) 03:59, 27 May 2018 (UTC)

Citations from newspapers.com
[edit]{{resolved}}
https://go.newspapers.com/results.php?query=%22wake+up+and+smell+the+ashes%22&s_place=&date_field=
I'd need the quote with context (better too much than too little, I'll trim it if needed), date, author, page and title. (if available) Two or three good quotes should be enough. I don't need quotes that refer to the Half-Life video game. The phrase should be used in a sentence, not merely as a title. They are needed to satisfy wikt:Wiktionary:Criteria for inclusion#Attestation. I don't want to apply for a free account myself as I don't need it often and the number of accounts is limited, others can contribute much more with a newspapers.com account.
Article: wikt:Citations:wake up and smell the ashes. Alexis Jazz (talk) 03:14, 16 May 2018 (UTC) @Alexis Jazz: Here's two quotes:
- Hochman, Stan (19 December 1994). "For Birds, enemy is in mirror". Philadelphia Daily News. p. 105.
Sure, Lurie said that he would wait to evaluate the coaches when the season was over. Wake up, Jeff, smell the ashes. The season went down in flames yesterday.
- Sloan, Jim (15 March 2003). "Generations Switch Places On War Issue". Tampa Tribune. p. 12.
Fellow corps member Tony Stickeler, 18, said he questions the motivation for the looming invasion but supports the president. "We've got to wake up and smell the ashes of the twin towers," he said.
The other two I didn't cite were letters to the editor. --MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 02:16, 17 May 2018 (UTC)

Thanks for your help, you two. I've come across two more sources that I haven't been able to get from my library, but might be helpful. They might be tougher to get from databases:
- H. HOETINK: Race Relations in Curacao and Suriname, in: L. Foner, Eugene Genovese (Ed.): Slavery in the New World. A Reader in Comparative History
- G. OOSTINDIE: Paradise Overseas: The Dutch Caribbean - Colonialism and Its Transatlantic Legacies

Hi, sorry to bother everyone again. There seems to be an inconsistency in the sources I'm using concerning one little detail. I'd like to figure this out by taking a look at a few newspaper articles from back then. I'm hoping one of the following might help me:
- H. J. MAIDENBERG: Government to Quit In Curacao's Strife; PREMIER TO YIELD IN CURACAO STRIFE, New York Times, June 4, 1969
- Curacao Governing Party Loses Majority in Election, New York Times, September 6, 1969
- H. J. MAIDENBERG: NEW FRONT HAILS CURACAO RESULTS; Socialist Group Wins 3 of 12 Seats in the Legislature, New York Times, September 7, 1969
- "Curacao Plans New Vote". The Washington Post. June 4, 1969
If you come across other newspaper articles about Curaçao from between June and September 1969 that would be equally helpful. I'm having difficulties searching other newspapers' archives. Thanks for your help.--Carabinieri (talk) 00:23, 26 May 2018 (UTC)

- User:Pajz: Thanks. However, there is a legal notice that I don't understand, because I am not a lawyer, and not very smart to boot. Am I allowed to cite the sources? Add direct quotes from them to the Wikipedia article? Or not? Thank you.Zigzig20s (talk) 19:36, 27 May 2018 (UTC)
- Zigzig20s, of course. I just need recipients to understand that I can only provide them with article copies on the basis of certain exceptions and limitations to copyright law (in the U.S., that would be fair use, under German law - which governs my actions (primarily) -, that's the exception for "reproductions for private and other personal uses"). I don't hold rights in these materials, so I can't personally license any uses. As a result of this, and as is hopefully obvious to most people anyway, if I send them a copy of a Times article, that doesn't give them the right to publish that article on their website ("communicate to the public") or sell a print-out on Ebay ("distribute"). Basically, I'm just passing on to people the conditions that allowed me to create the copy in the first place; I'm not adding any new conditions, I merely prefer not to unnecessarily expose myself to legal risks. (So in case somebody makes the material I send them available on their website and receives an infringement notice from the publisher, they can't blame me for having mislead them about their rights.) Just use the material the way you would use it if you had made the copy yourself at a local library. Hope this helps, — Pajz (talk) 20:35, 27 May 2018 (UTC)

- Zigzig20s, well, you would agree that if you ask people to send you a resource to improve a Wikipedia article and if they then send you a copy, you're not allowed to upload that file to the (publicly accessible) internet or to print it out and sell copies on Ebay, would you not? And that's the essence of what I'm saying: You must use the materials only in ways that are consistent with copyright law. I don't and can't grant you any additional rights (no one here can) because I don't have any (no one here does). — Pajz (talk) 21:53, 27 May 2018 (UTC)

- @Jo-Jo Eumerus: Those aren't articles, just abstracts of presentations at conferences. The proceedings of conferences are sometimes obtainable, but the first one appears to not even be archived by WorldCat while the second one is only held in Italy and New Zealand. Given the rarity, it probably can only be accessed on-location, which will be difficult to fulfill. The underlying work may have later been published in an academic journal, and the later publications would likely be obtainable. You'd need to search through the authors' publications and look for corresponding publications that appear to cover the same material. ~ Rob13Talk 08:43, 29 May 2018 (UTC)

Hawaiian Music and Musicians: An Illustrated History
[edit]{{resolved}} This may be easier if it was done via a physical checking out and scanning rather than requesting pages to be scanned since I have no idea the specific page numbers. I need both editions since the later edition adds recent research. Please send me both editions' complete index and table of content for future inquires, and the pages for Lena Machado and the Ellis brothers: John and William. Please send User:Maile66 as well. Thanks so much.

- @KAVEBEAR: I can get the Illustrated History at the Hennepin County Library, but they don't have the later edition. I can stop by tomorrow evening. = paul2520 (talk) 02:20, 14 November 2017 (UTC)
- @KAVEBEAR and Maile66: I borrowed a copy of the first book. Library doesn't have the updated edition. Hoping to get to the scans tonight. Should I use the "email user" feature when I get around to it? = paul2520 (talk) 12:56, 15 November 2017 (UTC)
- Paul2520 I'm OK with it being email. — Maile (talk) 19:10, 15 November 2017 (UTC)
- @KAVEBEAR and Maile66: I emailed you both. I forgot to mention, there's also a 17-page annotated bibliography which looks really nice. = paul2520 (talk) 17:13, 18 November 2017 (UTC)

- @KAVEBEAR and Maile66: FYI, I returned the first book this morning. I was thinking, libraries often take suggestions of items to purchase. Though the process takes time, it might be a good idea if you anticipate using these books in the future. = paul2520 (talk) 19:10, 6 December 2017 (UTC)
- Thank you for the suggestion, and for doing all this work for us. — Maile (talk) 19:16, 6 December 2017 (UTC)
- Attempting via ILL. ~ Rob13Talk 21:33, 5 January 2018 (UTC)
Not sure if BU Rob13 is still working on this (I believe not, based on what he wrote in the section below), but, at any rate, KAVEBEAR, it appears that the book can be borrowed for free through Internet Archive/Open Library. See https://archive.org/details/hawaiianmusicmus00kana. You have to create a free account first if you do not have one already. Once you're signed in, a blue "Borrow This Book" is shown ("This book can be borrowed for 14 days"). — Pajz (talk) 05:59, 4 April 2018 (UTC)Sorry, mixed up the two. #2 doesn't seem to be widely available, with only one holding library in Europe, according to Worldcat. This being, of course, unacceptable to any bibliophile, I suggested to one of the libraries around here to acquire it. They've ordered the book yesterday, so if either of you, KAVEBEAR or Maile66, is still interested in this work, I will likely be able to fulfill the request in a few (in my experience: 2-3) weeks. If, in the meantime, you have obtained the desired material some other way, or for other reasons are no longer interested in it, I'd ask you to kindly mark this (somewhat ancient) request here as {{resolved}}, just to avoid unnecessary work on my own part or on the part of someone else who might see this request and be willing to provide you with the material faster. Thanks, — Pajz (talk) 21:44, 18 April 2018 (UTC)
- KAVEBEAR, as I would now be able to fulfill the request, please indicate if you are still interested in #2. If so, I can place a hold on the book; if you do not write back, I will take the liberty of archiving this request in one week's time and would ask you to repost it should you again be interested in the material at some point. Thanks, — Pajz (talk) 10:14, 18 May 2018 (UTC)

Sisyphus (fragment)
[edit]{{resolved}}
I'd like if possible a copy of the following: 'SISYPHUS AND THE INVENTION OF RELIGION (‘Critias' TrGF 1 (43) F 19 = B 25 DK)
- Davies, Malcolm (1989). "SISYPHUS AND THE INVENTION OF RELIGION ('Critias' TrGF 1 (43) F 19 = B 25 DK)". Bulletin of the Institute of Classical Studies. 36: 16–32. doi:10.1111/j.2041-5370.1989.tb00560.x.
This is indispensable for writing up, as I am presently doing, the Sisyphus fragment article.
