SWISS FAMILY ROBINSON, The, a famous romance by J. R. Wyss, which was begun by his father and published as ‘Der Sweizerische Robinson.’ It was translated into French and afterward into English. It is an entertaining tale written for young people, after the style of ‘Robinson Crusoe,’ from which the author is supposed to have derived many of his ideas, and has been cleverly parodied by Owen Wister in ‘The New Swiss Family Robinson’ (1882.)
