[edit]From Old Swedish bliūgher, blȳgher,[1] from Old Norse *bljúgr. Cognate with Danish bly, Norwegian blyg, Icelandic bljúgur, Old High German blūgo (from Proto-Germanic *bleuga-, *blūga-, “shyly”), Middle Low German blūc, bliuc and dialectal German blug, plug, blaug.[2] Probably ultimately related to blöt (“wet”), from Proto-Germanic *blautaz.
