[edit]From Latin tuscus (“Etruscan”), in the context of Vicus Tuscus in Rome, whose inhabitants had a bad reputation. Compare Venetan tosco (“boor”), Spanish tosco (“crude, rough, uncouth”), Catalan tosc (“rough, coarse”), compare also Albanian toskë.
