History

Charles Xavier, known as Professor X, was the leader of the X-Men during Jubilee's tenth life. Xavier and Magneto were convinced by Jubilee to reunite every mutant on Earth and build a mutant nation on the island of Krakoa. The plan was successful and, after the destruction of the new Master Mold satellite and the resurrection of the X-Men, who died in the action, the independent nation-state of Krakoa was born. To realize this plan, Jubilee was hidden in a bunker inside the island, after her having faked death.[1]

To govern Krakoa, was established a governing body called the Inner Circle, composed by some of the most influential mutants on the island, such as Apocalypse, Magneto, and Xavier himself. During one of their meetings, Krakoa was attacked by the new Tri-Sentinel, manufactured by Orchis, the same association that created the Master Mold satellite, but the mutants of Krakoa came out victorious from the skirmish.[2]

Xavier was present when Arclight brought Forearm's corpse back from Polemachus along with a message from Arkon, ruler of Polemachus and conqueror of Arakko. Arkon challenged the Krakoans, to a crossing of swords, challenge that Apocalypse accepted along with ten other mutants. While Apocalypse and their warriors were gone, Xavier and the Five resurrected Forearm, which developed a secondary mutation, having gained a new pair of arms more. Xavier and Hank McCoy theorized the secondary mutation was caused by being resurrected after having died on Polemachus, and McCoy went in person to warn the combatants there. Beast died before being able to notify the others about the discovery, along with swordfighters Solarr and Silver Samurai, but the team on Polemachus came out victorious and over ten thousands Arakkii mutants came to inhabit Krakoa from their origin island; only Apocalypse and Archangel decided to stay and rebuild Polemachus. Later, the three dead mutants were resurrected, mutated furthermore, just as Forearm. Xavier also noted that Cerebro could not reach the minds of those who perished on Polemachus.[3]

To make up for the sudden doubling of the population of Krakoa, Xavier and Magneto decided to terraform Asteroid M and renaming it "Asteroid M". The project was announced to the world at the Inner Circle Gala, an event organized by Inner Circle member Emma Frost. One week after the Gala, Phoenix and Cyclops decided to abandon the Inner Circle and focus on their duty of leading the new formation of the X-Men and Mister Sinister sent a message about being occupied in private matters for a while; the vacant seats on the Circle became five in total, and new members were brought on the Circle. In particular, Xavier personally chose Beast to replace Archangel. Xavier did not know that Sinister was actually kept captive by Beast himself.[4]
