- —Sir Isaac Newton[src]
Sir Isaac Newton is an English physicist and mathematician who is widely recognized as one of the most influential scientists of all time and as a key figure in the scientific revolution during the 17th century.[2] He is also a former Sorcerer Supreme.[3]
From 1642 to 1960, Newton was the undying and greatly feared leader of the Brotherhood of the Shield.[4][5] The Brotherhood was originally meant to guide humanity into the future, but Newton believed in fatalism, an inevitability and an end.[6] With the "Greater Science," the "Hidden Arts," the "Secret Alchemy," and the "Quiet Math," Newton acquired knowledge, immortality, and mathematical proof that the world will end in 2060.[7] Now knowing the "Silent Truth," he murdered Galileo Galilei and supplanted him as the new Patriarch of the Shield,[7][2] secretly preparing the world for the fatalistic final fate of man in 2060.[8]
Newton's hold on the Brotherhood was challenged when a time-travelling Leonardo da Vinci returned to the Immortal City in 1956. By 1960, Leonardo reintroduced the Brotherhood's original philosophy, resulting in a violent schism between the believers of fate and free will.[4] In the end, Newton was defeated by the Human Machine and his Deviant-born son, Leonid.[9]
History
Early Life[]
Isaac Newton was born at Woolsthorpe Manor in Woolsthorpe-by-Colsterworth, Lincolnshire, England. He was born to illiterate farmers but was a child prodigy, he excelled in schools, especially regarding science and mathematics.[2] He considered numbers his first prison and was distracted after having an apple fall on his head while sitting under a tree. This led to him being beaten by his step-father after failing to save a sheep from being attacked by a wolf. He was later bullied at school due to his academic pursuits.[3]
His genius led him to study at Cambridge University where he gained an MSc in mathematics.[2] It was during his time there his interest in science led to his study in magic.[3] He also served as Warden of the Royal Mint, a Member of Parliament for Cambridge and mathematic professor.[2]
Brotherhood of the Shield[]
While still a young man at Cambridge, he was taken to the Immortal City, recruited into the Brotherhood of the Shield, and was personally mentored by the leader of the High Council, Galileo Galilei. During his time there, he learned of his mentor's battle against Galactus, the Devourer of Worlds.[7]
In 1625, in a search for greater knowledge, Newton traveled to Ashomia, the Deviant city, where he was captured. The Deviant ruler found his DNA interesting and forced him to mate with a Deviant woman named Morda. He lived among the Deviants until he could steal the secret knowledge contained in their holy book, claiming it for the Brotherhood. He called this knowledge the "Hidden Arts," saying it was not science, but "something sideways...something bent...refracted. Something alien and devout." This knowledge became permanently written in his skin after he burned the city down and escaped.[7] Morda had given birth to a human-looking infant around 1630 before Newton fled. She was blamed for his treasonous acts and confronted by a mob. In order to save her child, Leonid, she gave him to the Forever Man. The child was taken through time and was given to Nikola Tesla, the Night Machine, who raised him as his own.[2]
Newton later discovered the "Secret Alchemy," which allowed him to live forever with the Elixir of Life. Immortality also gave Isaac clarity of thought, and he discovered the "Quiet Math," which was the "divine structure for ultimate deduction." Using this, he determined that the world would end in 2060. This knowledge was designated, by Newton himself, as the "Silent Truth." Armed with the Silent Truth, he knew the old ways of the Brotherhood had to change. In 1642, he murdered Galileo and took control of the Brotherhood.[7] A decade later, he captured Nostradamus and made him immortal with an inferior version of the Elixir of Life, the Forever Compound, while using him as a seer and forcing him to reveal prophecies of the future.[10]
Sorcerer Supreme[]
Newton continued seeking out knowledge in the mystic arts hoping to discover an escape from the predestination of mathematical formulas. Newton's powers and knowledge eventually became so great that he was named the Sorcerer Supreme during a period of time when the Ancient One was presumed dead. Newton took control of one of the Mindless Ones to act as his servant. He gave him the name the Mindful One.[1] During this time, Newton continued to search for the fabled Word of God. His search led him to the Never Hills of the Dark Dimension where he encountered another Sorcerer Supreme, Doctor Strange.[3]
Campaign of Murder[]
In 1687, he published Philosophiæ Naturalis Principia Mathematica which outlined universal gravitation and the laws of motion.[2] Despising his intellectual rivals, Newton began to murder them one by one. He poisoned John Flamsteed at a dinner party, stabbed Robert Hooke in an alley, drowned Blaise Pascal in formalin, and strangled John Locke. He left an apple as his calling card at the scene of every murder. Gottfried Liebniz began an investigation and determined Newton was the culprit, and he knew he would be next. In 1707, Newton travelled to Hannover to confront Liebniz and, after a brief conversation where Liebniz called him a hypocrite, bludgeoned him to death using a copy of the Principia. He left an apple before returning to England.[11]
On 31 March 1727, he faked his death and history recorded the loss of one of its greatest thinkers.[citation needed]
Newton's Son, Leonid[]
In circa 1951, Nikola Tesla resurfaced after disappearing for nearly a decade and the Brotherhood of the Shield learned that Newton's biological son, Leonid, whom he had abandoned over three centuries ago in Ashomia, was still alive. Newton sent Shield agents Nathaniel Richards and Howard Stark to track down Tesla and retrieve both his inventions and Leonid, whom Tesla had been raising.[12] In 1953, Richards and Stark intercepted a teenage Leonid in New York City and took him to the Immortal City beneath Rome.[7] Leonid was brought before Newton and the Shield High Council, who revealed the truth about the organization and asked him to join.[13]
Leonid trained under Newton for the next three years, with Newton having a keen interest in him.[14] During this time, Newton continued exploiting and torturing Nostradamus for prophecies. In 1956, Nostradamus revealed that "The sounds of war echo in the sky: Soon the son of eternity returns: Soon the child of the stars is born: Fate or free will, the mechanism reveals." Suddenly, Newton was alerted by the return of Leonardo da Vinci, a former Patriarch of the Shield, who had been found by Leonid.[7] Leonardo showed the Brotherhood the Human Machine. In disbelief that Leonardo was still alive, as he had visited his tomb (secretly occupied by the first Life-Model Decoy[15]), Newton conversed with Leonardo privately and confirmed his authenticity. Leonardo later warned Leonid about Newton's "Truth" and told him about Nostradamus in Newton's dungeon, whom Leonid soon freed, before going to the Sun to retrieve the Star Child from there.[14]
Conflict with Leonardo da Vinci[]
Over the course of the next four years, Leonardo da Vinci slowly reintroduced the Brotherhood's original beliefs, causing many of them to leave Newton. This schism escalated into a full-on war in 1960. Newton believed in fatalism and that everything is preordained, including the end of the world; he even built a doomsday clock in the Immortal City to count down the last century of man, which he determined to be 2060. Leonardo's side believed that they are the masters of their own destiny. Leonid attempted to stop the fighting with his powers but Leonardo explained that the fight must happen because Newton was trying to engineer the end of the world. Newton simply replied that it is madness to run away from the end result instead of embracing it. Leonid was forced to drop his shield and the war continued until the sudden return of Nikola Tesla, Mina, Nathaniel Richards, and Howard Stark from the future. The time travellers objected Newton's Silent Truth and Michelangelo informed Newton's followers that he had ran out of Elixir of Life, meaning Newton could no longer buy their loyalty. A trial was held for Newton and Leonardo with Leonid as the judge. After Leonid sided with Leonardo, Newton used the latter's time travelling suit to go to the future: the year 2060.[12][5]
Year 2060[]
After Newton left to witness the end of the world, the Star Child went into Newton's study and found his Quiet Math, the mathematical proof that the world will end in 2060.[8] The Star Child went mad and started destroying the Immortal City until he was convinced by Michelangelo to also time travel to 2060.[16] With Leonid as the source, the Brotherhood of the Shield used the Human Machine to follow them and arrived at three different versions of 2060 simultaneously: a lush paradise ("The Rebirth of Man"), a technological utopia ("The Height of Modernity"), and a desolate wasteland ("The End of the World"). Newton assaulted them across all three timelines, with the Star Child by his side.[17]
As the two sides clashed, Michelangelo perfected the Human Machine and pushed Leonid into it. The three Leonids from the three timelines combined into one and so did Newton. Leonid then teleported Newton and Michelangelo inside the womb of the Celestial Madonna by the Sun and emerged out of the Human Machine as an ascended god-like entity. Newton tried to attack his son but was quickly and easily overpowered. Leonid reviewed Newton's and Michelangelo's respective philosophies and offered to do both. They accepted; Leonid restored everyone and Newton was given an alternate Earth to live out his desire for a predetermined end, with the Star Child joining him.[18]
