Synopsis for "The Ties that Bind (Part 5): Shy Girls"

While Laurie and Sofia were still in detention, the former believed she had seen Josh arrive and decided to help him sneak back in. When she walked downstairs, she saw a transformed Rahne standing over Josh.

In the past, Laurie's father, who she never met, would use his pheromone powers to manipulate people's emotions. Laurie's father eventually met Gail Collins, but one day his powers stopped working on her and she left him after she learned of how he had manipulated her.

Rahne's father was a preacher who impregnated a woman who died giving birth to her. Rahne's father took her into his care but made her the caretaker of his church. Gail Collins raised Laurie on her own and Laurie spent her childhood as a loner.

When Rahne reached puberty at fourteen, her powers manifested. Laurie's powers manifested at the age of thirteen when her mother took her to the beach and her pheromones attracted boys.

Rahne's father watched her transform and believed that her mutation was a gift from the Devil and had to be burned from her. Gail noticed Laurie's new powers and told her that it was unfair to use them on others.

Moira MacTaggert saved Rahne, became her guardian, and sent her to Xavier's where she joined the New Mutants. Gail sent Laurie to Xavier's so that she could get special help and she also moved to Salem Center as she felt that she was the only person her daughter could trust.

During her time as one of the New Mutants, she tried to control her emotions and not "give into the wolf" while she had many crushes that did not work out for her. After enrolling at Xavier's, she isolated herself from others due to her powers.

Rahne was captured and turned into a mindless beast, unable to control her emotions. Laurie watched a riot outside of her dorm and wondered if her pheromones were causing it.

After Rahne was able to revert to human form, she confronted her father and renounced him. A mutant villain also used a weapon that removed her powers, although the villain also killed Rahne's mother. Laurie finally found a roommate (Sofia) who wasn't chased away, started making friends, and had a crush, but it all fell apart when they fought the Reavers.

Following Moira's death, Rahne wandered, developed urges, returned to her old friends (Dani) and angered them, before finally meeting Josh, who triggered her powers. After she was stabbed by the Reavers, Josh healed her and she developed a crush on him, although he was more interested in Rahne.

Laurie approached Rahne and scared her away with her powers before approaching Josh, who passed out in her arms.
