Just 'cause we're mutants doesn't make us less human, or less prone to human frailties. Trouble is, our powers create the belief that we don't have to be bound by human laws or human society. We act like outlaws even as we become the dominant species. That's plain wrong. Used t'be, folks were scared of nuclear war. Who's the boogey-man now, mutant terrorists? Somebody has to make folks play nice with each other. Storm asked me to join her. I said, yes.

Synopsis for "Prodigal"
Sam helps ease a crisis situation begun by a rampaging mutant and decides to join Storm and the X-Treme team.
Notes
- Cannonball is rescuing civilians from the wreckage in the Channel Tunnel following the events of New X-Men #130.
- When Sam and Lila are living in Paris, he follows mutant news online, including "Some mutant kid in Alaska's been accused of murder" (X-Treme X-Men #20).
- Sam also reads of "some kind'a riot at Xavier's" including the death of a student. This is evidently intended as a reference to the death of Sophie Cuckoo in New X-Men #137. However, the mentions of William Stryker and Jumbo Carnation at the beginning of Fantastic Four: Marvels Snapshots #1 suggest that the "God Loves, Man Kills II" story arc which follows on from this issue in X-Treme X-Men #25–31 takes place before the "Riot at Xavier's" story arc in New X-Men #135–138.
